Paramount continues to baffle us all...

If you happened to read a post on Jake Watch earlier this evening, PLEASE IGNORE IT. I'm not totally sure what's going on, but apparently it was definitely not the worst case scenario, as I had feared. It's entirely possible no one even read it and now everyone is confused with all the secrecy. So, don't worry about it! :)

Something you should worry about? HOW MUCH PARAMOUNT PICTURES SUCKS. It's probably old news to all of us by now that the DVD of Zodiac, which will hit American stores in a little over a week, has no extra features. At all. None. Not even a trailer. Hell, my copy of The Little Rascals ("That wasn't sand; that's kitty litter!") at least has a fucking trailer. Apparently Zodiac will come with trailers for OTHER DVD's, including (wait for it) the Special Edition of Zodiac. (Which comes out in 2008 and has the decency not to feature that picture of Jake on the cover where he looks like he's a few cards short of a full deck.) This the worst merchandising trick I've ever heard of, even worse than the Special Edition of Jarhead which was, like, released in secret and cost 1000 times the price of a normal DVD.

So this post is just a reminder to all of you that Paramount was once mean to me and I don't think Jake will be offended if you wait and only buy one version of the DVD. In fact, Jake Watch will be proud of you. Be an informed buyer, America. Paramount is not working for you! But Jake Watch is. Over and out.

PG - I'm with you! If this is the way Paramount is going to treat us, then I am definitely holding out for the special edition one in 2008 (and this from the person who has fell for the marketing scheme and has both versions of BBM). Besides...I don't think I want that weird pseudo-Jake staring at me from my "Shelf of Jake" DVDs!!! ;-)

we should so boycott this version of zodiac maybe then paramount will get the picture that the masses want extras, besides why put the trailers for other movies and the tease to end all teases(the trailer for the more enriched version)WTF. anyway i'm sure Jake wont mind if we do that, at least he knows his fans love him and want to see more of him, right?

Paramount has the cheek to let us know WHEN they will sell us a DVD that is 1000 times better than the one that they're trying to sell us on 24 of July?

Are they sure that we're gonna buy it twice?
Either this or they're stupid!

Bad move Paramount!

Sorry for the double post but here's the link to a couple of forums where David Prior (DVD producer)tries to give the reasons of the staggered realease dates (via WDW):

Someone already ordered it for me as a present, should be here anyday now so I will probably end up getting both.

By the way where's Cina?

I will never forgive Paramount for being mean to you PG. Paramount sucks. I'm gonna do as you say and wait till 08 for the Director's Cut. Give 'em hell!

Well, I feel slightly less guilty now for already owning Zodiac on coughdodgycough DVD, so I'll quite happily wait until 2008.

*Sticks tongue out at Paramount*

I didn't see the earlier post PG and it sounds like it's a good thing I didn't.

I'll wait until 2008 to purchase the DVD, Paramount can kiss my ass.

She's on vacation for a week. :)

I forgot about the Jarhead crap. From what I read at the link provided, Finch has nothing to do with this, it's Paramount. I'll wait until the cut comes out in '08 as well.

Well put, Hedda. All I can say is DITTO.

Why would you care about a special edition of Zodiac vs. a regular one for that matter, enough to devote a whole thread to it?? are you such fans of Fincher? Are you really that interested in a true crime story? Or is it because of Jake? Jake who isn't very special at all. Jake who is just a handy excuse for a blog. Jake who isn't at all the reason for up to 4,000 people visiting this place. Jake who is not drop dead beautiful but simply a good actor. Riiiight. I thought this blog was fun. After having read all 98 posts of the past thread, I think you are fakes. Using Jake to promote yourself and angry because you think you're not appreciated. Getting upset with people because you feel they are too devoted to someone you feel doesn't deserve it. WTF are you anyway!

6:44:PM Why are you posting here? There are fans and then there are "fans" that are obsessed with his personal life, his family, friends, etc to the point where they are clearly not in a healthy place. You can dedicate a blog to him posting that everything out his mouth is gold, he's perfect, etc, until you are blue in the face, the only one's impressed are the person with the blog and the posters, the actor and his handlers don't care and the actor are not aware of it either.

And as far as someone using him to promote themselves, look in the mirror.

I'm a fan of Jake's and Fincher. You say that you thought this blog was fun, so I assume that you have been reading it and didn't just come across it. If so, you would know that PG saw Zodiac and wrote a wonderful review of it, check the March archives. She did a whole post on it, she also did a post about the DVD artwork/cover a month or so back so this is not the 1st Zodiac post. I don't know why you are all snippy about it unless you aork for Paramount. This isn't the only blog discussing this including Jake blogs. Now go away and take a nap or something, you sound cranky.

*claps hand over mouth so as not to engage the g even though she can think of oh so many things to retort*

I saw Zodiac when it came out in March, if I want to see it again i'll rent the DVD THEN buy the director's cut in '08. There is no reason for me to buy two copies. I'm still pissed off at Paramount for the way they handled and "promoted" this movie.

I'm surprised and disappointed that Graysmith and Ruffalo didn't do commentary for the Director's cut. I'll hold on to my $$$ and wait for the 2008 release.

At least it looks like the Dvd will have the SF Bridge cover, not the one where the 3 guys look like prehistoric missing links. lol

Anonymous said...

I don't want the dvd with Jake looking creepy on it! Leave the bridge there, take off the actors on the cover and do not use that creepy pic of the Gyllenhaal anywhere on the outside or the inside of the dvd! In fact, don't use that pic ever again, Burn it! GODDAMNIT!

Oops, thought I was talking to Paramount.

Anonymous said...

PG,I thought that when I read about your Little Rascals DVD you were talking about the orginal short films from the 30's, then I realized that it was the Movie, The Little Rascals that came out MUCH later, LOL!!!

The cover art for the DVD is creeping me out, the other cover is much better, I'll wait a well for the director's cut.

Paramount and all the other major studios continue to baffle the movie going public.

As xenia points out the dummies over at Paramount tells us to buy the DVD that will be released later this month, but then tells us the one coming in '08 is much better. Duh? I'll wait.

Paramount's handling of Zodiac has been disgraceful from the beggining, it's a shame too since it was one of the best movies I have seen this year.

I have my fingers crossed that some AA members will get a look at the '08 Director's cut video. I can't wait for Rendition in October.

Anonymous said...

Why is alcoholics anonymous seeing the Zodiac Directors cut before evryone else???

Anonymous said...

AA=Academy Award members, but I thinkk you already knew that, just being cheeky, eh???

Anonymous said...

I think some Paramount executives could use some counseling and help via AA in light of some of their decisions regarding Zodiac.

Anonymous said...

I think the Donnie Darko special edition DVD was the best (Jake DVD). Of course that's my favorite Jake movie. The art work on the cover Zodiac DVD is down right creepy!

Anonymous said...

11:25, AA isn't the abbreviation for Academy Awards, it's AMPAS. ;)

EpiphanieBloom said...

Just so you know ppls, the first version of the Zodiac will contain the version of the movie you saw in the theatre, but the director's cut will have new scenes and probably a different feel with different editing and uses of music, etc.

Anonymous said...

10:49:AM, Yeah I know, and I can't wait for the Directors edition. I'll probably rent the one coming out at the end of the month. I saw it when it came out back in march and I loved it. It would be great if Academy Award members could get a look at it via the DVD, that and along with Rendition!!!

Anonymous said...

No, I don't think Jake will be offended if his fans decide to wait to buy the Zodiac Director's cut in '08. Probably supports it 100% IMO, I don't think he is to enamored with a lot of HW. This break traveling between MV and NYC is great for him, away from the maddening crowd on the left coast.

OT: Jake and Rufus Rainwright from last month, what a ham!

AMPAS=Academy Awards, I stand corrected!

Actually, Loew's theater usher, I think you were right in saying that "Paramount could use some counseling and help via AA in light of some of their decisions regarding Zodiac" -- you know, the 12 step program, accepting the Supreme Being, which is the Dvd-buying public, all of that AA stuff. ;)

I am just glad Zodiac is coming out on DVD.
