QUOTE OF THE WEEK

From the annals of 2004:

“Hey I was in (row) 15C the other day... It’s been the best experience I’ve had flying. Air Canada’s just been terrific.”

- Jake Gyllenhaal, prince of product placement

I've never flown Air Canada, but I must admit I'm uber-impressed that at least one time in his life, Jake Gyllenhaal did not fly first class. The things you learn doing this job...

Whoever sat in 15B probably had their best experience flying ever too.

^^Exactly!! How I would love to have him beside me for a loooong flight... Oh my. *sigh*

"Mr Gyllenhaal, may I use your shoulder as a pillow please? Or perhaps your lap?"

I was going to get all huffy and demand to know why, back when I lived in LA and flew to New York regularly, that I never ran into Jake on a plane or at the airport.

Ahem. That was before I did the math and realized that when I left LA 10 years ago, The Sex was just 15 and very illegal and off limits to my then 26-year-old self.

*sigh* Life is all about timing...

I wonder if he got his nuts warmed?

Hehehe... someone's been watching Jarhead I see. ;-)

hey, i know this is off-topic, but i know there are some maggie fans here, and in case people are interested, tom o'neil from the latimes is hosting an online chat tonight with maggie at 7pm eastern time at http://goldderby.latimes.com/.

i hope i can go...

It was so weird to see his soft, romantic character in BBM and then see him talk about pussy in Jarhead, wasn't it? Such a 180!

It sure was! But what a turn-on...

Jake should have gotten an Oscar nomination for Jarhead. He was that good. And Peter for supporting actor. I don't know how they decide to schedule such things, but if they'd waited just a few weeks, they could have released Jarhead early in '06 and Jake would be up this year again.

OT, I know, but it appears that Orlando Bloom and Kirsten are actually a couple. It was covered in the UK papers.

@anon 5:21 - I couldn't agree more!!

YOu know, people talk about "chemistry" between actors on the screen, and they don't always mean sexual chemistry, I think. It's more like whether there's an authenticity to the interactionbtwn the actors and whether they are connecting emotionally. Jake's brilliance as and actor is that he generates this incredible chemistry with whoever he's working with.
Heath, Peter, Dustin Hoffman, Susan Sarandon, Ellen Pompeo, Jennfier Anniston, Katherine Keener, Jenna Malone, Drew Barrymore, Noah Wylie, Ann Hathaway. He is absolutely believeable in every scene.
Emotionally very accessible and very tuned in to his co-stars.

Thanks Smurfette.

Damn...I just flew American to Florida and there was NO ONE on the plane that came anywhere close to looking as good as Jake!

I go away for a week and all kinds of things happen: a "Zodiac" trailer is released(that I can't view because the library PC I'm on is useless), someone accuses Jake of having a nose job, Jake is caught consorting with various women at a charity event, and if you believe those trashy mags (which I don't) one of them hints he might have an affair with Reese Witherspoon on the "Rendition" set!
Yeah, sure. The point is, I cannot even leave for a week without missing stuff! The queen is distressed. . .

5:29PM: I doubt it. Her rep denied it when they were spotted a few weeks ago. This UK "story" is based on that "sighing" (weeks old) with the usual "friends" comments.

They were supposedly "dating" last year during PR for Elizabethtown, oh boy. There is a video floating around of them at this club and it looked no more than a group of friends (yes they were with a group) hanging out. I guess he can't remain friends with co-stars w/o people trying to pair them up. A few weeks ago Casablanca had tried to pair him up with K. Knightly just because they were seen shopping. I guess he didn't hear that she was engaged to another man. Poor Kristen. Andy Samberg, Tobe Grace, Jonathan Schwartzman, trying to get back with Jake, and now Bloom.

it has nothing to do with jake, so i don't know if you're interested, but i've just read the best slash story ever and thought i'd share

it's from the professionals universe. if you want to try it out, go here and enjoy!

^^^ Cina & Anon 5:21,

I've thought the same thing about 'Jarhead.' That movie was so amazing on so many levels; it's a shame that it got completely overshadowed by BBM. I love BBM, but I thought 'Jarhead' was just as good in a different context.

In fact, I loved it so much, I wrote a poem about 'Jarhead' and it's going to be published in
The Endicott Review in the spring. (Yeah, I'm proud) hehehe ;)

Jake is just a humble and nice guy, I guess. Thanks for the free promo for Air Canada, of which I am a frequent flyer. The flight from LA to Calgary probably uses the common domestic (i.e. within North America) aircraft Airbus 319, where the good seats in the economy class are 17A and F (next to emergency exits and hence extra leg room). There is nothing special about 15C, other than it’s an aisle seat in economy. The Air Canada service is typically quite good and the stewardesses very friendly. Plus on a clear day, the view over the Rockies is simply spectacular, but Jake had an isle seat, so I am guessing he probably liked the service.

When I read this, I wondered if Jake had flown Air Canada on his flight(s) from LA to Calgary for filming Brokeback. It's nice to hear he's so nice and unpretentious! :-)

Here's me, wishing, wishing, wishing my name was 15C...

Yeay! I got to ask Maggie three questions and she answered them!! Then she had to rush off to clean up baby poo or something like that...

As somebody whose Dad works for Air Canada, and has flown on the airline loads of times, this makes me quite giggly (is that even a word!?!)

Yay! Jake's a fan of Air Canada! This should totally go in the Employee Newsletter.

Wow! Can you share details on your chat with Maggie? Were you able to know what other questions she was asked and how she handled them??? Tell! (plz, plz!)

Anonymous said...

Kate -- What did you ask Maggie? Did you save the chat transcript?

Worked late, missed the whole thing. Dang.

Dumbo said...

The Maggie chat was great, it made my whole week. Maggie ended up answering three of my questions too.

Dumbo said...

I'll probably write up a summary and post it on the forum tomorrow. But some highlights include:

-GyllenGrandma having a crush on Dr. McDreamy

-Maggie wanting to do a movie with Peter as her love interest (but with a twist), and even more exciting for her was wanting to be a Bond girl

-Of course she "loves her brother"

-The flicks that mean the most to her are Secretary and Sherrybaby

-She prefers New York over LA, because "all her friends are there"

-Where was baby Ramona during all of this? GyllenGrandma was holding the 6 week old.

-Maggie was typing her own answers, although she described herself as a slow one handed typer.

cina said...

Congrats katie and dumbo!! :-) And thanks for the little summary! So GyllenGrandma has a crush on McDreamy... hehe. Well, I can't blame her. I do too!

My three questions to Maggie were:

Would she ever think about appearing on stage in London - she said she's love to come to London. But the thing about being on stage is that you do the same thing every night.

I asked if she'd like to do a film with Peter - she said yes but nothing was in the pipeline.

I asked why she preferred to live in NYC to LA and she said it was because all of her friends are in NY.

I couldn't get a transcript as I'd no idea how thes things work. I do remember Maggie saying that it would be a little dramatic if she were to do another film with her brother, whom she said she loved very much.

So if anyone has a transcript - please could they let me have a copy or post it here?? I'd be grateful.

You can PM me at Katie on the forum

When i get onto a plane i always scan every seat for the hot guys. *just so i know!* Id just like u all to picture me stumbling and then going A over T down the small isleway after seeing Jake in 15C. Now i admit... that would be a funny sight!

katie and dumbo-- i logged onto the chat late, so for some reason i could only view and not type in questions! it was fun to read the chat though-- just sad i didn't get to ask anything. re: the bond girl comment, do you think maggie was being serious? i thought she was joking because of the way she answered the question, cuz she was like, hell yeah! spread the word, i'd love to be a bond girl!

oh, and i think latimes will post an edited transcript soon (edited for repetitions, random tangents, that sort of thing i think).

Dumbo said...

I do think she was joking about the Bond girl, although she definetely wouldn't turn it down if offered. As far as not being able to type I had that same problem until I realized you had to click on the confirmation email they sent you when you signed up for the chat. Luckily I signed in about 40 minutes early so I had some time to figure that out.

salailama said...

aaaaahhh. thanks dumbo. what an IDIOT (me!). can't believe my idiocy robbed me of my chance to converse with a gyllenhaal. guh. i mean, how cute was maggie in stranger than fiction? i have a total girl crush hehe.

anyway, you're right, dumbo, i think she was joking, but if given a smart script, she would be the perfect bond girl that would bring something so entirely new to the role in a way that would turn the whole concept on its head. i loved when someone said peter's smoking hot and she agreed. she is the cutest!

UGH! I flew Air Canada in the summer of 2004 and it was the WORST airline experience I've ever had. But maybe if I had been in 15a or 15b, things could have been alright.
