QUOTE OF THE WEEK

From an online interview regarding October Sky. Not really quotes but funny as fuck.

What did you like best about being on Rosie O'Donnell today?
The fact that I wasn't on it.
Jake Gyllenhaal, smartarse.

If you weren't an actor, what would you be?
I would be dead if I wasn't an actor.
Jake Gyllenhaal, drama queen.

What, if one thing would you want movie goers to walk away from the movie with?
I think that I'd like for them to walk away with the metaphor for what that movie is about, and that's the metaphor.
Jake Gyllenhaal, quoi?

Don't you love when Jake gets all profound & earnest & incoherent on us? You can tell he sincerely means whatever he's saying and that he's trying to communicate something that left him deeply moved. And yet, despite his earnest desire to get across what he's been thinking, some of the nuances of the English language elude him -- so we are all blinking, going: "Say what, Jakey?" We'll be examining some of his utterances forever. He can be enigmatic as a little buddha, though I don't think he always means to be.

LOL! We know he is a smart guy, but it's not always smart things that come out of his mouth... It's absolutely adorable!!!

Too funny! Doncha just wanna hug him saying, "It's alright; it's alright?"

He was such a young 'un then (October Sky era), so I'll cut him some slack for his, um, metaphorical incoherence. I do believe he's become much more articluate now. ;)

Ha! For some reason this really cracks me up. Possibly because I can't imagine he ever meant it.

Oh how very deep, Mr Gyllenhaal. I'm impressed. Are you impressed? LOL

Yeah, what s/he said.

Jake is confusing a metaphor with personification. Lol.

Personification? That sound worse than metaphor in that sentence.

Jake was young (18 was he?) and probably trying to sound more mature than he was and use the wrong word. Maybe he was thinking of "essence" there? Or "lesson"? Anything better?

I learned about metaphors in eighth grade.

But it's ok, Jakey, we love you no matter how inarticulate you are. Sometimes he reminds me of a puppy-- so honest and sincere, but totally unable to communicate. His sentences are all over the place. If he wasn't so damned cute, I might find that annoying.

Jakey honey, your purpose is to make the world a prettier place. Don't worry about that thinking thing, ok?

*Giggles madly* How silly!!!
Never mind, I only love him for his body anyway ;)

I wouldn't like to have embarassing things I said when I was 18 to be recorded and available to the public for scrutiny. I've done a good job of forgetting them so far.

Jake's habit of talking round in circles is so endearing.
God I love this man.

I never examine his quotes (there are more important qualities to examine), I simply laugh uncontrollably when he swerves from the point.

You see, Jake, if you'd kept taking classes at Columbia, your professors would have handed back your papers with some comments written under each of your sentences: "Awkward." "Flow of logic?" "Can you clarify?"

I like hearing what you think, yes -- but I really, really like watching your films because then you are interpreting what other, better writers have written for you to say.

[I remember Jeff Wells writing about Jake doing a long monologue in "Zodiac/Chronicles" which he said was handled extremely well. Wondering when I'll get to see it in a theatre.]

Aren't we all, nice anon, aren't we all...

And Jakey, ramble on as much as you want. It's adorable. Me like. :D
