HAND ME MY DEERSTALKER, WATSON OLD BOY!

Some detective work needs a doin'.
When I first saw the picture I naturally thought, "Awwwww, Jake with a baby! Ah, that's exactly what he'll look like when he cradles our children, only hopefully without the spider face, mad hair, football manager sheepskin coat circa 1974 and bonnet".

But...hang on...why the spider face? Is that even Jake? Hang on, I've had a thought...

PAUSE

It's okay. I figured it out. It's from the lesser spotted Highway. Remember when Jake was all cute, stoned and indie? Oh, what a different tale it could have been young Gyllenhaal. Dude, where's my Ennis Del Mar? Oh yes, very different indeed.

So, yeah. Jake with a baby. You may squee now.

I loved that movie for some reason. I wish there could've been some special features on it, mainly a commentary because there is a lot of debate over whether or not Pilot was bi (or gay and closeted) and in love with Jared's character. I definitely think they left it open for that direction of thinking esp. when Pilot's questioning himself when they're at the restaurant.

I've not seen Highway yet either but who wouldn't be in love with Jared Leto and that haircut?

Highway sucks! I hate to say a Jake movie sucked, but in my opinion, it did. The only thing that kept me from tearing it out of the dvd player was cute Jake. I wish I had the hour and a half back from that movie. Why Jake, why did you make this movie?

He was tripping on LSD and some chick he hitched a ride with painted it on his cheek.

I LOVE Highway.
It's a GREAT movie.
Pilot Kelson's character is so ... ambiguous, unconventional.

I think what's most significant about both Bubble Boy and Highway (I liked Highway, looooved Bubble Boy) is that Jake is doing a great, great job in both movies. His characters always have that extra dimension, and sometimes that's all it takes to give the movie meaning.

On the surface, both movies seem to be of the "light kind", but they are both very much worth watching - IMHO, of course.

Aww so sweet. Jake really seems to like children.

Jake is amazing in Highway.Different people like different things. But i love it.Deffo slash material as well.Pilot and Jack did love each other,no doubt.Anyway, won't say anymore,so as not to spoil it for others who have yet to watch it.

"Highway" is a 90's indie road-movie with plenty of crazy camera angles, drugs-fueled dialogues and amoral characters who need each other and while it's an evident flawed film (often monotonous and stereotypical)I enjoy watching this bizarre threesome (add a dangerous Selma Blair to the duo Jared & Jake),no doubt.

britpopbaby said...

kendra, you really shouldn't use the word threesome. It puts naughty things in my head - involving Jake, Selma and Jared.

Weirdland said...

I'm actually more fond of duos - although I'd skip the Jared one by far-, two involved is more of a personal connection, but to each one his/her own.

Either that picture is from a cut out scene, or it's a behind the scenes-picture, because there is no scene in Highway where he's holding a baby.

It's incredibly cute though!!!

cina said...

And that baby isn't even aware of how damn lucky she is! LOL

britpopbaby said...

It's probably a behind-the-scenes thing but god knows how the baby has come into the equation!

Well, haven't heard of any paternity suits involving Jake ...

About a year ago I caught 'Highway' for first time on TV and was really taken with Jake's character. Something in the story put me in mind of "My own Private Idaho".... none the less, that's how I began my discovery of Jake, and became aware of his efforts on the movie Brokeback Mountain.

As I've said before, life has changed for me in a big way since that time. I'll eventually add a copy of 'Highway' to my DVD collection.

And Jake with kids is just too irrisistable!

Highway is of my favorite Jake movies!! I thought it was awesome. I loooooove it. :)
And the sight of Jake holding a baby? I think I've said before...just the notion of Jake as uncle/dad/baby-holder makes me ovulate. It's quite a phenomenon.

I'm arachnophobic and I ain't pleased about this :(

I've never found Highway to rent here, which is probably for the best - a spider-faced Jake will only combine my innermost fears and lusts, and throw me into utter confusion!

I LOVE Jake in this movie! Absolutely adore his performance as Pilot. I'm not as convinced as othes of the bi angle as I think that the character was more asexual.

I would 100% recommend any Jake fan to watch this movie purely for his performance.

Beep!Perfect score! Gold star!! All we can say is WHOA in reference to that picture (followed by some squeeing.). Thank you, thank you. And Highway is one of The Sarsgaals' favorite movies. All hail the god of fuck. Can we say that? LOL

Yaaay! Do we have bingo now???

And brit, don't think this makes up for a lack of a Sunday Project because it doesn't *petulant stare* I had my safety scissors, glitter, and glue sticks all in a row waiting for your instructions that never came. Humph!

Jake and Jarad had nice chemistry and it was nice seeing Jakey all young and stoned and indie but that movie was ... ummm crap.

Oh dear god, I've angered the squall! To make up for it next Sunday's project is BBM-related. See, I'm planning it already, it has to be good.

That's better dear. Yes photoshop will get us bingo soon enough. Just photoshop Frank in the passenger seat with a baby on Jake's lap Britney Spears style and Paris Hilton's attacking kinkachoo sitting on the dashboard looking fierce.

I know I've heard someone say that before. I guess I don't really see it that way because he's so seemingly in love and infatuated by Jared's character. He seems very curious about Jared's character's sex life and in wanting to be the main person in his life (to the extent that he gets cutely jealous of Selma's character). I don't know but I could definitely see the character as bi (or even gay) and in love with his best friend who is unfortunately straight.

I could take that view too anon 11.55 if Pilot hadn't picked Seattle as a place to hide out in cos Amy Carnes was there and he thought he was in love with her was there and then at the end headed back to LV to be with Lucy cos he missed her.

I think his sexual confusion was more to do with a lack of sex drive due to the drugs. I also think that he did truly love Jack and Jack loved him too but that it was a platonic love. Two guys or two girls can love each other without sex being involved.

That's a valid theory, but I think there might have been some slight romantic feelings for Jack all the same.

Two guys or two girls can love each other without sex being involved.

That goes without saying.

Weirdland said...

Much better thatn Donnie Darko IMO!!!!! Are you ok?

JadziaDragonRider said...

Donnie Dark was incomprehensible and the writer/director either did not have or could not communitcate his vision clearly and cleverly.

The performances and the coolness of what he was trying to do saved the film. Highway had a pretty straight forward plot but it tried to do different "indie" things that lookiing back were kinda cheesy. I can see how one would like it over DD eventhough DD is the holiest of Jake's performances.

Anonymous said...

Well I know that two guys can love each other without sex being involved muffin but the thing about being gay and being in denial is that you would tend to go after girls to convince yourself otherwise which would make sense with Amy Carnes (esp. since he convinced himself she was someone she wasn't). And then seeing that his best friend was happy with Selma's character, he knew that the best thing was to leave them be together so that was more his reasoning to go home. Of course there's also the possibility of not being gay but rather bisexual which would mean he could feel that way about his best friend while also feeling that way about the girls in his life. It's just his interactions with Jack's character felt less platonic to me and more about a questioning crush on him (not a straight man crush but a hmm, do I love him in that way crush). Like the night after Jack slept with Selma's character. Pilot seemed very jealous to me and not in the damn you had sex which I wish I could do too with a girl way but rather a you had sex with someone besides me way. JMO.

Highway = best $7 I ever spent! Jake and Jared in the same movie was like a dream come true for me, because they are two of my favorite actors and obviously, they are two very beautiful men. It's not the best movie ever or anything like that, but I got a few laughs out of it and being able to stare at Jake and Jared for 90 minutes was definitely worthwhile, plus you get to see a shirtless Jared, which is better than nothing, but sadly our Jake remained clothed...still I suggest those of you who haven't seen it to obtain and watch it...you won't be disappointed.
