QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"If you're trained to kill and you don't get to go and kill other people, then you end up trying to kill each other. That's the thing. When you leave 12 guys in the middle of the desert there, they're bound to do something odd."
Jake Gyllenhaal, it's cool to go crazy if you're in character.

Something odd? The mind boggles. Does it involve a keg of beer and a modified Santa hat? That wasn't originally part of the film, was it, Jake? Sam just walked in on you and Sarsy playing Truth or Dare, didn't he? Damn! He coulda waited 'til you got to naked Twister!

So Britpop you wouldn’t mind being stuck in the desert with Jake and a rifle in his hand then??

Anonymous said...

who would? :-)

Yeah, chipping his tooth would piss him off. Much as I'd love to be stuck in the desert with Jake and a rifle...I don't think I wanna meet Pissed Off Jake.

Anyone around here own an island?

If we're using the word rifle euphamistically, then yah I want him with his rifle in hand but I dont' want him to have an actual gun! I'd like buff Repeat after me!Jake I think... normal Jake would do nicely too.

SO watching Jarhead tonight! Yeah, buff "repeat after me!" Jake would be nice...but I'm not all that picky. I'll take any Jake I can get.

Oooo RepeatAfterMe!Jake can be shortened to RAM!Jake. Let's get ta rammin' ... (did I say that out loud?)

I see. Thanks, Jakey, it's much clearer now: If you prevent men from killing, when they really want to kill, when they have been trained to kill, then in their frustration, they blow off steam by dancing around naked with little felt Santa hats covering their private parts. Finally. Something that explains Chippendales and "The Full Monty" and a lot of other things.

Dear Britpopbaby, Im so sorry to hear that your feelings have been treated so callously. I'm certain he was forced under duress to pose for these Eva pics. and besides ...beautiful skin, designer red halter dress, bussoms that draw eyes like laser beams. What does she have really? I hope you didn't throw all your good crystal. It helps to have much cheaper glassware ready for such occasions perhaps wine stems? ....Well that said. I did just notice the badge you added. I'm so relieved that you choose a clothed pose! And I wanted to tell you I'm quite pleased with it! Yours, Simon Cowell

Yes, I'd be more than happy to meet buff, muscular, pissed off, repeat-after-me Jake. He brings a whole new dimension to the phrase "Drop and give me twenty".

LOL You people are...hehe....

I haven't even seen jarhead yet but Have already seen that STFU scene in my fantasy like 10 times.. wonder if the real scene will be a disappointment? :o)

I guess it depends on what you expected from the movie. I read the book too, and yes, it covers much more than the film does.
But I did enjoy the movie too. Am I the only one who liked Jake's narration of the movie?
I saw it only once but I can still hear him citing the lines:

“The man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war, and afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory and he believes he’s finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands – love a woman, build a house, change his son’s diaper – his hands remember the rifle and the power the rifle proffered.”

I also loved the cinematograhpy - the way you could almost 'feel' the desert heat dripping from the screen and the soundtrack they put to it.

By the way, I think the movie did much better in Europe than in the U.S.

OMG - I just noticed the new Simon Cowell tag on the front page!!! LMAO!

Britpop, you had your tooth chipped by a big burly man armed with a mug once. Now you'll have a conversation starter when you meet Jake. If the restraining order ever gets lifted.

@ beskyddaren
I know.... It's sooo fun :D

Britpopbaby, I'm in Sweden. Jarhead is released on the 7th, so only 1 more day to go. Yay! It's been a long wait...

I saw the movie before I read the book, and I agree the book IS better. I LOVE that movie, tho. I'm a Gulf War vet, and this is the first movie that actually took me back there. Jake's narration was so evocative, and ITA maria, the cinematography was like watching a camera mounted on the front of a roller coaster. You could FEEL the sand, the heat, the oil dripping on you, the boredom. I was watching some of the deleted scenes last night, and I really wish they'd left more of them in, especially the ones involving Troy. I felt like you really didn't get a good sense of WHO Troy was, and why he was important based on the scenes that ARE in the movie. You do from reading the book, it's a shame they cut his part so much.

LOVE the new logo or banner or what d'ye call it. LOVE IT!

I think Jarhead probably got a boost in DVD sales due to BBM. Everyone wanted to see Jakey movies after they saw him in BBM. Including me! I liked Jarhead a lot. Because I'm not into war films or books I willfully passed it up in the theatres.

True. Although I was the one armed with the mug, he was just armed with stupidity and loud noises.
