I'm always tickled by THIS MySpace profile because a) A lot of people actually seem to think it's Jake and b) Whoever runs it doesn't seem like they're going to cease playing along. Is it funny or is it wrong?

I actually always feel SO embarrassed by people who believe that. Though I must say that this person is going to a new low by using a picture that is more tricky for the gullible people out there. Usually that same myspace page just sticks to the paparazzi pictures which makes it obvious that it's fake. But I mean come on people! How can anyone honestly believe that Jake would write most of that junk on there that this person does? This person makes Jake seem incredibly immature, self absorbed, annoying, and pretty much just a jerk.
I actually think it can be VERY dangerous too. I mean, it's not as though anyone actually knows who this guy is. You hear about it all the time. Some guy convinces some naive little girl (or boy depending on the guy's tastes) that he is some big star and that *gasp* he's actually interested in them. Then he convinces them to meet him under the impression that like in this case they'll be meeting Jake. It's a really scary possibility to me.
I think people probably know it isnt him, they just play along, like pretend "what if". It is stupid...theres always someone who actually DOES belive it. Now, thats just sad. Lets just hope this guy isnt dangerous, and wont use it in the purposes that anon just wrote... I didnt really read what hes saying there though. Didnt have the nerve to log in...
There's one common denominator in those Jake profiles at Myspace that confirm they're fake: The book they list as his favorite. I recall Jake saying that to Kill a Mockingbird was just *ONE* of his favourite books but that his true obsession is JD Salinger.
We can't waste all our time making the world safe for (from) stupid people...And they're just good fun for those who want to play. Nothing wrong with pretending.
I doubt the person behind this page is a bad person. But as was pointed out at the beginning of this thread, they aren't always in good fun and it can be dangerous because you never know which ones are fun and which ones are dangerous. There's nothing wrong with pretending when it stays innocent but that's not always the case. And I don't think that it's really the "stupid" people that we have to worry about. It's younger kids who are generally more naive and trusting. There are 8-12 yr olds that are sometimes even more computer literate than their parents nowadays and they go online and "meet" people all the time. I'm sure it's the job of the parent to make sure their kids aren't getting into trouble online but things get overlooked sometimes.
I am kind of an analphabet on celebrities (but I'm learning fast!)... so I'll admitt: Before I saw this MTV ma pics I've never heard/seen this woman Mendes before. I still don't now what she does for a living (Actress? Singer?). However, I think that SHE'S HOT and immediataly when I saw the other not-so-obvious pic of her and Jake I thought that Hey, they have something going on... And now.... I have to see the MTV ma show first to judge... I mean..if she's a COOL girl, she must have impressed on Jake, I'm sure he doesn't just want beauty..
I think it's stupid and silly and yet he's most definitely on my friend list. Why? Because it's fun. I feel sorry for anyone dumb enough to believe that's really Jake, but I can't deny that page has given me hours of entertainment.
Simon, I'm noticing (could it be?) a fascination, so to speak, with Seacrest. If there is some juicy man-on-man action happening behind the scenes at American Idol, you realize that we MUST KNOW ALL, right? It would actually make me uncharacteristically giddy if you two were having a hot, gay love affair. *wink*wink*
Trying to imagine meeting the person who has this MySpace page. "Yes," he says, "and I spend hours & hours of my spare time in my parents' basement, on the Internet, pretending to be Jake Gyllenhaal." Does this help your social life, sir? "Um, yeah, online at least. I've always got one hand on the keyboard, while the other hand ... I mean, I can't meet those who reply to me in person, can I?" How much time do you spend under the spell of this delusion, sir? Is this hobby generally known among your friends? Will you continue it when you are at University & far beyond? Will your employer's IT department develop a a great deal of interest in your Internet log?
That would be incestious.*wink**wink* Ryan doesn't need a lover as he's more than enough man for himself! P.S. as for giddy...by all means ground yourself.
Can somebody provide a quick and dirty recap of said page. Can't get to it on my computer at work and my home computer can't even deal with Myspace. It would try valiantly until it ultimately crashed. She's old.
Squallcloud, you aren't missing much. It's your typical MySpace page with no layout and about 4000 comments along the line of, "jake, i loved you in donnie darko!!!!!!" Whoever this person is, they could be doing SUCH a better job. Here's "Jake's" latest blog entry, a strictly cut-and-paste job:
Iam sorry for not getting back to the people "fans" that have asked me questions/ and OR asked me to comment them. I have been extremely busy and I just have no time, and by you deleting me due to me not "speaking to you" then I think thats a little shallow, BUT to each their own!
Have a good day.
Jake
And, of course, there are the obligatory smoking pics of Jake with hundreds upon hundreds of "oh, u r hottttt" comments. It's just so silly!
I think the myspace site is hilarious - i'm on 'his' friends list but then I also have Jack Bauer, Willy Wonka and Nostradamus on mine! It's a just a bit of fun and is so obvious its not Jake. Tonnes of things give it away - he calls himself uncle jack nasty, the photos are pap pics, he's part of a group called 'jake fans forever' or whatever it is. But I think its sad that some people actually think its him although whether the person behind it is doing any real harm just depends on how much his 'friends' want to delude themselves
I can't believe I went to lunch and came back to YET ANOTHER really bad blog entry from Uncle Jack, this time about the movie awards (which he erroneously refers to as occurring "last night"). He didn't even mention Eva so you know he ain't the real deal. :)
Dude, Momma G is so my friend! I have absolutely no MySpace shame. Jack Twist and Ennis Del Mar made the list, too. :) At least the faux Naomi seems to be literate. I can't figure out why there haven't been other people who try to take on Jake. Anyone could do a better job...
Cannot answer for britpopbaby but I don't think that is Jane Asher, though she does look like the Jane Asher who was Paul McCartney's girlfriend in the Sixties! Please don't tell me there is someone else on this blog who remembers those days..!

Perhaps its deliberately not realistic to throw Jake Watch off the scent. Ooooh, conspiracy.
Nah.

It's creepy. And laughable. I seriously can't believe that people actually think it's for real. But apparantly many of them do. Sad, indeed.

That was really really odd. And disturbing.
Detective Anneka in action again!
I don't think that's Jake.. that guy looks more like that Shayne guy from X-Factor?

^wrong post..should have been on that mendes+jake pics thing... :(

There is nothing that distresses me more than imposters!...except Ryan Seacreast...which is all too real.
Use your powers to rid us of this impostor Sinom Cowell.
Oh NRM, I was just becomming fond of you too.

Gahaha, look, "Jake"'s a member of his own Myspace fan groups..That's rather hilarious.

That latest blog entry cracked me up, esp. the replies.

I just stick with people I know in the "real world" at MySpace, as much as possible.
I feel sorry for the teens who fall for it though and get burned.
It’s so wrong, yet so funny! Have you seen the list of his friends featuring "Mamma G"

off you go then...
Prophecy Girl: I can't stand it any longer. Is that Jane Asher in your icon? If it's not, who is it, please?
Cannot answer for britpopbaby but I don't think that is Jane Asher, though she does look like the Jane Asher who was Paul McCartney's girlfriend in the Sixties! Please don't tell me there is someone else on this blog who remembers those days..!
Is it one of the Shrimpton girls, perhaps?
Pretending to be an angel from above is WRONG! Jake is soooo impeccable that pretending should be a crime!
