LISTEN UP, POETRY FANS!

There will be a full reading of Stephen Gyllenhaal's poem, 'Canon' (which is Jake related) by his editor Michael this Saturday (10th) in New York. If you show up you can collect a Claptrap: Notes from Hollywood postcard that you can get signed at the June 28th reading.

More details:
Lit Mag Marathon
Saturday, June 10, 4-6:30pm
DeWitt Wallace Periodical Room
New York Public Library
5th Avenue at 42nd Street
(the one with the stone lions--you know, the library where Jake had to hole up in The Day After Tomorrow).

P.S - Whilst we're on the subject - Pops, if you're reading this can you please attend that June 28th reading dressed as a frogman or Scaramanga or something so that you fit in with our new theme? I'm sure it wouldn't be too much hassle. Thanks.

Shame Brit’s you don’t live in NY Maybe we could go on a road trip?

I wish I lived in NYC
damnit!

It would be more boat trip than road trip, NRM! I know we get a lot of readers from New York (well, about 20 or so as far as I can work out) so I'm hoping we get pictures or reports or something!

Wasn't he going to do a reading in London too? Or have I just made that up? I want to go to this reading...

Stupid England with it's late dvd's and it's lack of Poppa Gyllenhaal's poems.

If he's taking requests, I think he should come as Sophie Marceau, the one who cut off her ear for Robert Carlyle. Or Halle Berry.

Oh, I SO want to be there!!! But it's completely impossible. Any NY people, please go and represent and write long, highly-detailed synopses. Please!

Aargh! No chance that he'll be crossing the pond then? Damnit!

For the NY sisters and brothers and undecided that do go, please do the 411 for us.

I'm planning on going to the June 28th event at Housing Works, I'll report how it goes - but I'm hoping his book is available before then (I actually prefer to read the book before I attennd an author's Q&A session).
On a less intellectual level, I can't believe I'll be in the room with the loins that created Jake.

I think Gyllenhaal sen. would want to be 'Q' so that he could protect his boy.

'Now see this little beauty son, it has a stalker tracking device in the lid- otherwise it looks just like any other take away coffee - I know the girls at Jake Watch do their best but you can't be too careful- just look at the Louella incident.'

YAY!! I work at the NY Public Library on 42nd St. Special Events e-mailed the staff about this event, but I ignored it because it was on a Saturday and I had no idea that it was Jake related! I guess i will be "going to work" this Saturday!

Man, I wish I had a job that allowed me to spend time with famous people instead of the muppets that live around here.

When is he coming to us, I wonder.

Now, sorry to hijack this thread but I am back to struggling with that avatar (yes, I think I was dropped on my head as a baby). I have managed to open the picture but, of course, have no means of hosting it. Could anyone help? Are these pictures hosted somewhere already?

I'm losing hair over this people.

zoo said...

Right, as an interim measure, does this work?

thesweetestone said...

zoo, dont feel dumb, i was also clueless about it, I e-mailed bpb like 3 times about it and she really helped me, so u r not he only one who doesnt get it. I relly needed it drawn up for me to understand. Anyway, save the picture on your comp, go to internet to http://imageshack.us, and click browse. then find your picture saved on your comp and click on it. Then click upload. you get a list of URLs and click the shortest one on the bottom. copy it to "edit my profile" on your blog under pictures. I hope this will help, im not great at explaning, but hey, i needed two days to figure it out so..:-)

oh, you managed. well done zoo, nice avatar!

Boat trip then Brits. I’m sure we could steal a boat James Bond style! We can stay at the Marriot Marquis 1535 Broadway how does that sound?? Such a lovely hotel.

"Man, I wish I had a job that allowed me to spend time with famous people instead of the muppets that live around here."

Anneka hope you don't include! And why are you not a Bond girl??

I'm totally agree with you cina. I don't know which country you are from but I live in Sweden and sometimes it feels like... you know wrong country :)

I wish I wasn't such an idiot. I can't make head's or tales of poetry. I follow Robert Frost but that's where it ends...ugh!

Anneka said...

NRM, meant the muppets in my area, not my internet homies like yourself who are not muppets. And I'm not sure why I'm not a Bond girl. I do have fantastic breasts. So people tell me.

Nothing Really Matters said...

I’m sure you do have fantastic breasts! Look at my face I do!

Find yourself a Bond girl! I’m a Bond girl and I’m not even a real girl. (Don’t tell anyone, don’t think they will notice). I was only messing Anneka,

Hey imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. WTF is running a tuxedo pic also. lol

What time during that two and a half hours is Gyllenpappa's publisher reading the poem? Because that is a lot of poetry to sit through. On a Saturday, when the rain here might actually stop. Hmmmmm ... still debating whether I'll go.

Simon Agent 002 said...

How often does such an opportunity present it's self?...hmm?

Anneka said...

OK, just making sure I haven't insulted anyone.

People used to call me Kermit because of my apparent resemblance to the green critter. I don't think they meant it as a term of endearment.

LOL Agnes - I live in Sweden too! ;-)

Dangnabit! God I am so pissed off right now, why Senior and Jake? Why do you have to live in the states? More importantly why don't I live in the states? Who ever lives in NY or is able to go best give us some great feed back and possibly some great pictures when he/she gets back. I do really hope there is one in the UK cause even if Jake isn't there we would still get to meet senior.
Also I am getting pissed off with Blogger: everytime I try to post my bond girl picture(which btw seems as I am the last to do so)it just says "This page contains no data" or once I get into my profile it doesn't give me the option to edit my profile. Is it like that for anyone else? Or is it just like that for me and I need to feed this machine more salt?

My relation with poetry comes from much time ago. My boyfriend was a writer in his free time and published poems and a book in an independent Spanish editorial:"Zocalo", the title was "She, my demons and me". I usedto writed short tales in an college literary magazine named "Aquisgran". It's fabulous Jake's father is a poet, too. Too bad I am with many schedule issues and I won't go to NY.

Kendra said...

Sorry for the "erratas" in the post I wrote above. As I said, I wrote various short tales and poetry too and I dated some geek musicians and amateur poets, lol.
Now seriously, britpopbaby, you are one of my muses. Thanks a lot for posting a link to my modest blog, although my "love" for Jake is not that modest.

Oh,damn. Why am I stuck in this nobody's country?..at least you Brits can make groups and sail away..you guys in Sweeden can sell ABBA T-shirts or dirty stories and buy plane tickets..but what the heck am I gonna do all by myself?
I would love a little 'poetry reading' with the Gyllenhaal..(moulin rouge inspired..)

Bearded Lady what part of your body did you put it on???

I set high standards, don’t worry few people ever look as good as me! If they did they are no longer with us!

OHHHH!!!! What a time I had yesterday. Pussy, I applied the "Johnson's Holiday Skin Cream" but I didn't get very far....I started on my legs and worked my way upward.....As I covered my Brazilian Wax region...Oh my god!...A horrfic burning sensation....I was hopping around in pain....I had to think quickly ...so I took my Gin & Tonic and tossed it over the affected area. The ice in the drink seemmed to help a bit... And I poured myself a second one for medical reasons.... At this point I stopped to ascess the situation...it was bright red and blistering...I think it's 3rd degree...So I try to phone my doctor. But the last time I used a phone, it had a crank on the side...AhHH!....I just finally had another drink ,passed out and here I am now.
