THE GYLLENHAALS IN ACTION

Thanks to cina, via iheartjake for finding this. It's a video version of the Gyllenhaals walking on the beach on Sunday: http://www.splash-video.com/index2.pgi. Click on click here for more and then latest videos in the top left corner. It's a few rows down. The accompanying blurb is:

"It must have been a very proud moment for actor Jake Gyllenhaal to show his father and mother on Mothers day the site for his new multi million dollar Malibu beach front house. Jake who arrived at the site with his mother Naomi and his dogs Atticus and Boo Radley (puggle) were met by his father Stephen and together they walked down the stairs and along the beach before climbing the rocks to reach the site. Jake was seen motioning with his hands to show the shape and dimensions of the upcoming house much to his parents delight. Not much is known about the lot or the upcoming construction except to say that similar lots can sell for upwards of $10 million dollars and locals have been whispering about it for weeks. Afterwards Jake who sat and enjoyed his future view with his mum and dad walked about 1 mile up the beach to discuss plans and to exercise his dogs before heading back to his car and speeding off."

I've always maintained that I don't have a problem posting paparazzi pictures on here because they're available all over the place so people are bound to see them. I also believe that there are plenty of other career options or places to live if you don't want to be followed around by cameras everytime you buy a coffee but something unnerved me about this video. It must make you very self concious and uptight to have a lense constantly a few feet away. Maybe it's because he is with his parents here that it's bothering me. I don't know...it's just weird.

Yeah, I really don't understand how they can stand it EVERY SINGLE DAY basically.

It is fun though to see Boo and Atticus run around like crazy! LOL Can't deny that.

I wanna know where he got his dogs trained, because mine would have eaten those paps in a three seconds flat. lol.

Hm.. wasn't he looking at some huge appartment in NY city? Well, he can afford both I guess..

Yeah, it is a little creepy to have a camera or video camera trained on you what seems like every second of the day. I know he realizes that it's all part of his job, but it has to be wearing thin....hence the few smiles, I think.

Atticus and Boo were ADORABLE, tho. As soon as they were off their leashes they were GONE. LOL!

Didn't you, when Jake threw that stone/ball over to where the paps were, want Atticus to go an attack one of them. Ahh that would have been hilarious, I can just see Jake now; "Go on boy, go for the jugular!" LOL.
But this does somewhat disturb me, I mean a really proud day in Jake's life, showing his parents where his new house is being built. Pointing out where he, Boo and Atticus could take walks and having to point past some crazed lunatics with cameras, watching the Gyllenhaal's every move, just to show his parents where he could spend his time. I know Jake, Maggie and the whole Gyllenhaal family have enjured this since forever, but I mean it is a family day out on Mother's day for christs sake, be a little respectful.
I know I am a complete hypocrite because I enjoy looking at these but I mean does he have to have a camera in his face every second of the day. I would just be happy if there was a picture about every week, just so I can see what he is doing. I know that wouldn't be good for Jake watch, but that is just how I feel, we do not own them because they are actors. I just want to know what they are up to now and again.

Right now I am over with the serious stuff: Who is watching Big Brother? Can you believe that they have put so many freaks in there?!

I'll bet Jake is going to buy the property in Manhattan as well as building a place for himself in Malibu.

Then he will come out publicly as bi-coastal.

Millions will be thrilled.

cina said...

I had no idea Jake was looking at apartments when he was in NY! But he probably can afford both as been pointed out... lol.

bi-coastal *snort* Good one!

What I couldn't stand was the guy who kept saying, "Dude, we've earned this." My ass. There's no excuse for such a blatant invasion of privacy. It's one thing when an actor is promoting his work, it's entirely another when it's freaking Mother's Day.

HEL-LO! ITA! I was actually hoping what the jerk meant by saying this is that Jake knocked one of them on their asses. I suppose we'd have heard about that, tho.

"Bi-coastal" LMAO!

I just saw like 10 % of it but it's obvious from the very start that they're pissed off.

I'm not sure they've understood how HUGE 'Jake Gyllenhaal' has become. I don't think anyone can imagione how it is to live like this. Doesn't matter they know people who are in the business etc etc.. We're in a moment of "we want more Jake" (as he himself stated in an interview) and then this is what it takes. He's not a Jamie Lee Curtis, he's f*cking JAKE GYLLENHAAL!

Katie of Sweden said...

I know it's NOTE appropriate to laugh at this, but at 01:10:56.. Have you seen when poppa turns his head to check out the paps... it's done very quickly... :D It's like he thinks "oh noo, why did I do that for?!"... he´s not as used to this as Jakey is.. and besides, he's not an actor ;)

Prophecy Girl said...

Oh, how I wish! I doubt it, too, but it would be awesome if he managed to pull one over on them. I think maybe even the paps realized how personal this was and were trying to convince themselves that were in the right. Of course they weren't, but they're not generally known for their moral standards.

squallcloud said...

I don't see it. People keep saying he's so sad and dijected and miserable and angry around the pats. He always looks slightly bored or mildly amused to me sometimes, he's like "Wow, I'm so over this." but in this video he looks in good spirits. All three seem amused like "I can't believe these losers are following me and I'm supposed to pretend their not there." Don't worry about the boy so much. He's fine.

Katie of Sweden said...

Ok. Initially I see that Naomi is hesitating wether they should pass them at all. But Jake is cool and makes her go. Then, I think Stephen is a bit uncomfortable with it while Jake (of course) and Naomi as well is playing the game. When the three of them climb up and stand still while the camera is taking stills, it's as if they 'give' them the pics they want. Naomi puts her hand on Stephens shoulder like 'it's ok'... Ok maybe I am over doing to much of interpretations here I dunno...

I have to agree with Britpop about what she wrote in her post about the paparazzi. “plenty of other career options or places to live if you don't want to be followed around by cameras everytime you buy a coffee” And Jake knows that this will happen. At the same time there is a line and although I did not see the video. It sounds as if they crossed the line by having the carmera so close and filming! That’s so mean! What do I know im that retarted I can’t even see the video! I’ll just chut up now!

britpopbaby said...

The camera men weren't that close but it just gave me the impression they'd ruined the walk for them. But like squallcloud says, he can deal with it.

Nothing Really Matters said...

Anyway im sure it does not bother him half as much! He is well used to that by now! And let’s face it we can’t be happy smiley all the time, we all have our off days! I think that he look’s fine in most of the picture’s I’ve seen! It would be wired if he smiled all the time!

Sirius said...

Yeah, I'm sure at this point Jake expects it and can deal with it. But, at what point does it become too much, for any celeb, when they're out doing normal things like strolling or buying coffee? Are 5 paps okay, but 15 are not? If they stay 50 feet away, is it okay, but would it be too much if they're 5 feet away?

Is it unacceptable if they now plant themselves outside Jake's new house or set up camp on the beach nearby with a telephoto lens focused on his deck?

All rhetorical questions, but I do think that, simply because someone is a celebrity, it shouldn't mean s/he has no right to any sort of privacy whenever s/he leaves the house. However, the insatiable appetite for photos and the possibility of big money for the paps that get a "gotcha shot!" won't stop anytime soon. There is definitely a level of creepiness to it.

britpopbaby said...

I always feel, although the paps are doing the stalking, it's the magazines and agencies who are offering them so much money and the celebs use the mags to promote themselves - so who's to blame? It's a big ole circle of abuse!

I think Jake is usually papparazzi friendly. On the video a big, bald man is shown taking a picture of them almost in their face, and Jake just smiled at him when he was done.

BTW Jake should train Atticus to run papparazzis away!

Dynah said...

It seems to me that Jake realizes it comes with the territory...but I don't think that necessarily means he likes it.

I mean come ON...he was going for a walk with his parents and his dogs...what kind of shots did they think they were going to get?

gin said...

I have a mixed feeling about this. I feel like this kinda does come with celebrity and that I'm sure Jake has known for his whole life what would happen if/when he became some famous actor, especially considering who his family is. On the other hand, this made me squirm just to watch it. It feels very invasive and voyeuristic and I didn't watch the whole thing. I don't know. It's bizarre and stalkerish, even moreso than regular photographs.

jla said...

I can't even watch the video. It just makes me so uncomfortable to see such a invasion of privacy! I mean I just cringe at the thought of it. I know it's the nature of that industry, the celebs use the paps to promote things and the paps use the celebs for "the money shots" it's like some sick symbiotic relationship there! As much as I love looking at new pics of Jake it just seems awkward at times. Like I am peeping at him through his bedroom window!!(I wish) Okay all that is a tad melodramatic but I think my feelings were effectivley conveyed!

JGFanForLife said...

I have to say I had the same reaction when I saw this video. It seems more invasive than photos. Also unnerving that the paparazzi already apparently know where he plans to live. How does a person have ANY Privacy in that case?

squallcloud said...

Yah, I was kinda like "pssst, Jakey, don't give the paps advanced knowledge of where you're setting up your beach front bungalow, m'kay?" But like brit said, it's a cycle of abuse. We're involved too. I know that when I see new Jake pics of him going to the 7 11 or buying cupcakes, I feel more complete somehow. I need some horrible asshole with a camera to get my my fix so I can't complain too loudly.

Yo, those cameras were loud as hell. Just how many of them was there?

beskyddaren said...

Felt also awkward watching that video, the constant sound of the cameras and all...

Jake building a house to himself, that’s exciting, we can look at it as another “portal to the inner Jake” you know! I could imagine him being interested in architecture, I read Heath is. I see something low key with natural materials and colours and nice detailing, that would go nicely with his overall style. God I wouldn’t mind being that architect! Spending my days imagining all the zillion ways light could be playing on his skin and hair... Jake, call me!!!

Katie of Sweden said...

beskyddaren.. how can he call you if he hasn't got your number? I mean, he could need help with that house..

Seriously.. all this about building house.. I don't believe in it. It's just speculation, so...

I'm simply not watching the video. That pretty much expresses my thoughts about it. Though I do very much appreciate Britpopbaby's resourcefulness in locating & posting it & the effort she puts into a time-consuming, non-profit venture like this blog -- let's give a big hand to the Brit! Pop! Baby!

beskyddaren said...

Don't say that Katie, you're ruining this for me... ; )
I already started to invent a new architectural style called Sensualism which is based on choosing materials and colours based on how well they accentuate the inhabitants eye, hair and skin colour. Also a careful study of said customers body proportions is essential in order to create a harmonious whole.

I think the papz are pretty close at the beginning... and also on the beach it's pretty upsetting!

I admit to having mixed emotions when it comes to stuff like this. Walking in and out of restaurants in one thing, but I guess the line gets even fuzzier when it's things like Mother's Day, just because I can't imagine walking around NYC on Mom's Day (which I did) with the parental units and having these dudes clicking and filming away. Then again, I don't get paid millions and millions of dollars to act. I guess that's the trade-off.

It's a tough call, but
Jonathan Rhys Meyers recently said, and he's got a point,
"You're putting yourself out there in the public eye and selling what's essentially your personality. So if the public buy you for twelve bucks in a movie and pays for popcorn, well, you feel you own a little bit of that person. So when people then become famous and go, 'Oh God, I hate the press; God, I hate the paparazzi,' I'm like, 'Dude, it's not as if you didn't f**king beg for it. Really! I've spent ten years working my a**e off so I can't in my heart of hearts be one of those guys going, 'Hey man, no f**king photographs man, I'm an artist. If a paparazzo comes up, I'm like, 'Hey, take your shot, if you get 300 bucks, good luck to you.' I couldn't imagine anyone paying 300 pence for a photo of me, but if they can have a job from doing that, great."

britpopbaby said...

He's such a lovely boy that JRM! That's Irish sensibility for you - the Brits are the same - just so happy to get paid!
I'm glad he bulked up for MI3 too but that's totally off point.

Franzi said...

but it's not exactly as if JRM gets hunted by papz 24/7... once that happens he might think different about it!

there is a very small ammount of people who really do get followed on a daily basis! some of those almost beg for it, but to some it just happens...

wtbgirl said...

It's a tough call, I admit it. On the one hand, Jake of all people, growing up in Hollywood with an entire family in the industry, would have been well aware of the paparazzi intrusion that comes with stardom. It's not like he was a naive farmboy from nowhere that came to Hollywood off a bus. On the other hand, I have a feeling that maybe you really don't know how aggressive these guys can be until you experience it first hand.

only1annabel said...

I found that kinda disturbing! I guess cos you only ever see a few pics normally that you forget that the paps are there 24/7! I feel sorry for the Gyllenhaal's cos they were just trying to have a nice walk with the dogs and had a bloody audience!
Ah well what can you do it is this crazy society we live in thats osessed with the notion of celebrity! By watching the video we're just fuelling the fire! I say all this but it doesn't stop me watching!
