So. New Line Cinema...

...nice site. Nice big close-up of Jake there (click on his name if he doesn't automatically pop up), good atmospheric Photoshop rendering in the background (those grainy explosion graphics scream "Oscar!"), a little sparse on the details (where is my TortureScene!Jake wallpaper and AIM icon??) but you're just getting going, so OK. I can wait for a synopsis longer than a paragraph, but only because the picture of Jake is so hot. Let's see, what else? Jake's name is first, good, and we've got an official release date (October 19th it is!), good. It's all looking really good...until I look up at the top of my browser and see the word "Rendition" MISSPELLED. Dear Lord in heaven. You went to all the trouble of creating changeable skins and you didn't even spell the movie title correctly. That probably cost you the Oscar right there.

EDIT: Spelling error has been corrected. Academy Award back in play.

For more accurately spelled information on Rendition, HERE is a nice little article about how the movie is Serious and Not Fun. Consider this your reading assignment for the weekend. Be ready to discuss important topics, such as the defining characteristics of a Message Picture and the rationale behind inserting that particular picture of Reese Witherspoon into the article.

Thanks to Penny Lane for the info!!

What a cool site, thanks for the link. I sure hope New Line does a better job promoting this film than Paramount did with Zodiac.

  2. Damn it, I've been checking the official movie site off and on since before the trailer was released, and now they've apparently corrected their misspelling, and I missed the fun. How was is spelled before? I also got Streep instead of Jake when I first loaded it. I just went back, and got Reese. It's a conspiracy.

The CC2K article basically centers around the same conclusion I drew over at the IMDb message board for the movie, when I foolishly stumbled into the "Liberal propoganda [sic] anyone?" thread. And PG, I think it was 100% snark behind the choice to insert that photo of Reese. But it did make me laugh. I'm a simpleton.

ny agent, the guy who was in charge of marketing movies at New Line just got replaced, like, five minutes ago. In fact, in looking for a relevant link to bring you (here you go), I just read this:

"Rendition," a Reese Witherspoon-starring thriller due in October, was so mystifying to preview audiences that its ending has been re-edited to allay audience confusion.

That scares the bejeezus out of me in terms of the quality promised.

  3. Yeah that worries me too.Jake sure does look dreamy in that picture though.

Well, the producers of Wolverine liked the movie enough to hire Gavin Hood. The audiences that recently saw it that post on IMDB and other places I have read really liked the movie. So I think the confusion with the ending seems to hopefully be fixed.

  5. Cherita, does your browser have tabs?? If so, look at the tab, and it's spelled, "Rendtition." I'm probably the only person who would notice such a thing and make a big deal out it...but details!! It's an official movie site, for crying out loud! :)

A "Reese Witherspoon-starring thriller," eh? First it's "no fun," now this. This is not being marketed well to the average Jake fan. ;)

  6. Browser tab? What format are you using PG? I don't see a mistake in either Safari or Firefox.

  7. Oh how I have missed being part of this site ... Prophecy Girl, you continue to make the last er ... half hour or so of my work day go a little faster (it feels like 27 minutes at the most ! Honestly!) and to think ... I actually got to MEET you too (lucky YOU) ... just had to check in and say HI to everyone and thanks to PG and BPB for such a wonderful site as this; even tho my work blocks the pictures and video etc ... I can STILL READ ! And laugh. And giggle. And smirk. And pee my pants.

p.s. This is Dee (perfectscore_goldstar) who can't remember her friggin password ... :)

How could this be?!? I'm a Firefox girl, all the way. My tab definitely reads "Rendtition," as does the top of my window (where my minimizing and x-out buttons are). Is it just me??

Dee!! I'm so glad you still read! I remember our wondrous meeting that not-so-wondrous night. Good times. Well, sort of. Happy to knock 3 minutes of misery off your day. ;)

That should clarify "the confusion" ...

    ReplyDelete
  10. PG, I have my Firefox set so I only see tabs if I want them. That is why I was confused. But I just tried to view it as a tab and it is spelled correctly. As is the direct link at the top of the page. Maybe they fixed it?

  11. Ah, Jake's distinctive forehead pock mark. Nice to see it again, dramatically side-lit.

This sounds like a movie that will be better for Jake cumulatively (because it's showing he can also play a serious, suit-wearing adult -- it isn't that far from that to headlining something like the "Bourne" franchise) than with any immediacy. I would so love to be proved wrong on this, though.

Thanks again, ProphecyGirl and BritPopBaby, for dealing the hard stuff when my Jake addiction starts me jonesing real bad.

  12. Cherita and Birdgirl, this was just posted on Hollywood Elsehwere about the "confusing" ending:

The only thing that pops through in Patrick Goldstein's damage-assessment piece about New Line Cinema -- what went right and wrong during the Russell Schwartz era, and what will be different now that he's out the door -- is a little morsel of information about Rendition, a Reese Witherspoon-Jake Gyllenhaal thriller due in October that "was so mystifying to preview audiences that its ending has been re-edited to allay audience confusion." A friend who saw it three weeks ago can't remember any confusing elements. Maybe the problem had been fixed by the time he saw it.

  13. 10:54, I just checked it again and it's still wrong for me! I don't understand it! I'm think I'm being personally tormented by New Line Cinema. :)

I found the article you cited in the original post a teeeensy bit disturbing, PG. They describe Jake's character as the CIA agent "with a heart of gold." Rats!! I wanted SO much to see a rought, tough, agressive Jake. I mean, it sounds like I hoped it would, in that he might get all heroic, etc. and play the classic, uber sexy, rescuer role, but still...I hope there's a dollop of decadence about his cahracter. Something dissolute and extremely sexy...

  18. ^^^ Um, yes, that would be the article I linked to in the post.

10:54, come on! Why would I make something like that up?! I REALLY wish I would have screen-capped that sucker because I will concede that this morning, the spelling error has been fixed, but last night, FROM MY COMPUTER SCREEN, it had not been. We were obviously seeing different things. Let's not talk about it anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The review is interesting, on one hand he says that it's well cast, acted, directed, etc. but seems a bit put off because it's a "message" film, a bit preachy and Academy Awaard bait. Whatever, I'm looking forward to this movie when it opens in October.

PG, sounds to me like you've had enough gin for one night! :P

Just to clarify, ^^^the above comment was said IN JEST!!! It was a JOKe!!! Did you not find it funny PG? You translated that into "you must be making this up" (????) wow.

Why would I accuse you of making it up? I don't have any reason to suspect that, so therefore I am taking your confabulation as truth. I look forward to reading about how such a thing has happened.

Now I will post another joke, I will endeavor to make it more funny! :o

    ReplyDelete
  25. 5.28, this is a dead issue at this point, but yes, I did find the tone of your comment offensive. It wasn't so much the gin part, but the way you spelled out "Rendition" in capital letters like I'm incapable of reading. I'd already talked it out with someone else...why bring it up again? You know the whole "irony doesn't translate into print" thing? It's the truth! And the way it was written was a little antagonistic. But I'm over it. Let's not talk about it anymore. :)

Both of them have really short hair cuts, Jake's looks like a buzz cut! It looks like he went back to MV after visiting Reese in L.A. Can't wait to catch them at the Toronto FF for Rendition.

Okay, the powers that be are against me...First I clicked on the link to the Rendition site, and I even downloaded a flash player against all my better judgement (5 year old computer already near dying), and yet the page still won't load for me. And then I can't even read the article about the movie because I don't have access. Maybe this is a sign from the gods that I've been a disloyal Jake fan of late...

    ReplyDelete
  30. ^^^ Try the article now. For some STUPID reason it keeps reverting back to that log in message when you shouldn't have to. It's a conspiracy, I tell you! I've corrected it three times now. Grr. As for the trailer, did you check YouTube?? I'll bet you could see it there. ;)
