Quote of the Week: Donkey Edition

"What do they say, the elephant and the donkey, right? Then Emily Dickinson says that hope is a thing with feathers. The elephant nor a donkey has feathers."

- Jake "I See Beyond Political Stereotypes" Gyllenhaal

(As Gavin Hood responded, "That's way deep.")

While the Quote of the Week was uttered during a press conference for Rendition, Jake was, of course, actually referring to his newest campaign poster and the launch of his campaign slogan:

Quote source: A Transcript of Interest; a slightly more in-depth analysis of Emily Dickinson HERE.

Also, if you were putting off your pleading e-mail to Jonathan Ross (jonathan.ross@bbc.co.uk), then we suggesting not putting it off any longer and immediately starting your pleading. And then repeating your pleading throughout the week. And interspersing the pleading with pleading to other people as the need to plead arises. Thank you.

Do you think it's worth pleading with Top Gear to get Jake to be their 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car' - I'd pay serious money to see that.

"May the Feathers of Hope fly his ass to the White House".

HAHAHA this is the best.slogan.ever.!!!:D

I've just filled Ellen's form.
I had to choose a state to send away my message. I chose Yukon.
They simply didn't previse that a crazy Italian woman could have had any interest to send a message about a show she can't watch either...except wathing it on IHJ, or any other Jake blog...Now they know.;)

Anon 2:49 I thought that as I watched Helen Mirran on Top Gear last night.

That was exceedingly brilliant, PG! You're so creative and clever, it's just disgusting. :P

I'm starting to wonder if Jake's looking to go independent, though. Which would totally thrill me, as I abhor not so much either one of the major parties but really the party system in general. Partisanship is an obstacle to democracy and justice, and I'd love to see further evidence of Jake acknowledging this with his campaign. Plus I'd have to borrow some dead Democrat's identity to vote for him in the primary, as I'm registered Non-Affiliated. *sigh*

Speaking of Presidential campaigns:

Just hope Jake in '08 isn't tainted by this!!

PS: Brilliant post PG, "May the feathers of Hope fly his ass to the White House", LOL!!!!

You've found your calling, PG...political consultant. That is the BEST campaign slogan and poster EVER!

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! And yes, Cherita, I have also wondered if he's going to go independent or "progressive". Betcha!

ROFLMAO!!!! Damn, PG, where do you come up with this stuff??

^^^ I don't know! Seriously, my own mind confuses and baffles me most of the time.

I think a third-party candidacy is a definite possibility. :) That's why it's so handy the donkey has wings...it can be a brand new political party symbol for a brand new political party!

And man, Office of Pelosi, that was a depressing and thought-provoking article. I knew some of that stuff, but definitely not all of it. Perhaps Jake needs to start talking about new methods for choosing candidates in his political speeches?? I can get on that. ;)

Thanks for the link, ONP. The book they mention, A More Perfect Constitution, sounds like a worthwhile read.

Funny shit PG!

In theory a third party sounds great but it just doesn't work in this country. Both parties have serious flaws. I refuse to ever vote Republican though.

As Jake says Democrats make better lovers. :)

BirdGirl said...

Oh yeah Cherita, I forgot to tell you...

If you want to learn how to vote as a dead Democrat all you need to do is come up to East St. Louis. They do it there all the time. I'm sure they could give you some advice. :)

LMAO!!! The slogan is funny as hell PG.

A third party candidate ggettin elected sounds great but I don't see that happening.

Gosh I love JW! The Jake in 08 campaign just keeps getting better. - Although I had to google the elephant/donkey thing before i understood this one as I had no idea what he was on about (I'm from Australia, so I don't know too much about US politics...) So it wasn't just an extreme case of Gyllenbabble! And, thanks to JW, I'm learning more and more about US politics, so I feel like i'm not just wasting time here!

Becky Heineke said...

^^^ Thanks! We try. :) And sorry about the confusion because I do (quite frequently) assume people know things about the U.S. that they logically would have no reason to know. I'll admit, though, that even knowing what Jake was alluding to, I still had to read that quote about 5 times to get what he was saying... ;)
