Non-October Sky Quote of the Week

"Well... The worst experience was waking up in the middle of the night with two glass bottles hitting my head from I don't know where. I later found out that Lucas Black just decided it would be a good idea to throw a glass bottle up in the air and see where it landed and it landed on my head. There were things like that happening all the time."

- Jake Gyllenhaal, on why I'm glad I'm not a boy

Happy Labor Day (now that it's almost over)!

Yep, boys will be boys. Aside from all the shirtless boys on set, that Jarhead shoot sounded like it was pure hell.

Hmmm. I'm suspicious. While I think hanging out with Jake 24/7 sounds like heaven I'm not sure that all of his cast mates shared that opinion. I'm not saying that Lucas was aiming or anything but........oh that makes me sad. I'm going to go back to thinking about them rehearsing the cut out "carrying injured buddy off the field and then falling on top of him in exhaustion" scene.
Much better.

Lucas Black, what's wrong with you man?
Because throwing a bottle in the air while there's aomeone sleeping close to you is really stupid!(unless you are either drunk or stoned...;))

I hadn't read that one prior to this weekend, either, but when I did it made me wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that Jake admittedly choked Lucas at some other point. Don't know which happened first. Clearly Jake was strongly affected by the entire Jarhead experience. I would have been, too.

Having had both an iron and a small dead rodent dropped on my head by a passing bird (the dead rodent, not the iron) I feel a strange afinity with Jake now - when we meet we can spend hours discussing things that have fallen on our head

I remember reading an interview with Jake and he was asked which role that he has played so far was closer to his real self and he said the Sworff in Jarhead.

I'm looking forward to PG's report from TIFF, good luck!

Gee-whiz! I knew he got into it with Brian Garrety (spel?) but was unaware of any friction between him and Black.

I believe many factors contributed to Jake's breaking down during the Jarhead shoot. For one, he and Kirsten were more off than on in early 05', so the stress of being stuck in an empty desert, away from the first girl he ever truly fell head over heels for might have compounded stress. More, could it be that some of the guys were slightly jealous of their handsome, talented co-star. This is not to bash the supporting players' work because each of them proved effective in their own right, but Jake is easily the best looking of the cast and he had the starring role, so you just never know.

Plus, Jake seems like the kind of guy who could be the sweetest person you could ever meet but fuck with him at the wrong time, on the wrong day, and he just might pop a cap in your ass!

I think it was the steroids.

What??

To get the Jarhead perspective of Jocko Sims and Jamie Martz, or as they like to call themselves Numbers 12 and 13 (on the call sheet) check out this YouTube video. Martz does a spot-on Peter and they take gentle swipes at Jake. All in good fun I'm sure. ;-)

Thanks for the link to the Jarhead interview PG, I don't remember reading that one at all.

Good luck in Toronto, everyone is looking forward to your report!

Don't forget, he a Peter got into it and did not speak to each other for at least a month although they were sharing (a room / apartment) living space while filming.

^^^ Heh. :) Actually I'm pretty calm. This was all so last-minute, I haven't had a lot of time to freak! ;)

And now, to everyone in general...

I'm leaving at 6:30 tomorrow morning so I'll just check back in as soon as I can (i.e. at the very latest after the Rendition screening Friday night but hopefully before then). Sorry there is no post for the new pics. brits and I were sort of underwhelmed, seeing as how they look freakishly like a set from a while back (which we used during the TDATND days)...and also we were a little creeped out by the fact that photographers were waiting for him to come out of a doctor's office. I don't know...it just seemed like maybe that should be private? Anyway...I literally had NO time to put him in a new setting, so we're postless. :)

Thanks for everyone's well wishes and whatever portion of the trip goes towards Jake, just know it's all for you guys. I'll try to do you proud. ;) Over and out!
PG

I hear now that Jake and Reese will be doing a few one on one interviews as per New Line. It's still scaled back from the original plans.
