QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Like any other sane person, I do not want to be judged by my looks. If somebody compliments me on my looks - which I did nothing to get - it has no value for me whatsoever. I would rather deal with people who appreciate me for what I do in my movies. All those lists about Most Sexy Males on earth, that appear in magazines quite often, all disappear when a new sexy actor appears on the horizon. A good acting performance will withstand the test of time. At least, I hope."

Oh quit whining, Jessica Alba.

Sourced from some interview, somewhere by someone at some point.

Which I did nothing to get? And what about all those $$$ and energy spent for good looks?

Sam said...

If i was as good looking as her, i wouldnt be complaining. Its called a compliment Jess!!!

I actually saw her recently in a mag that was "stars without makeup" and she really is naturally beautiful!

Jake, you really don´t need to remind us - we are only discussing your excellent acting, the wonderful movies you are a part of or your future challenging roles. This has absolutly nothing to do with your smoking hot body, that silky hair, your smile, your charisma or those wonderful "baby blue" eyes...really, it would be the same if you had warts, hair growing out of your nose and were looking like Quasimodo...

"If somebody compliments me on my looks - which I did nothing to get - it has no value for me whatsoever" - some people think you had a nose job some years ago, I take your comment as an official denial!

what? the quote is from jess or jake? i'm totally confused..

heddaparsons said...

12:51PM: The quote is from Jake, taken from one of interviews in Cannes. Ah, Jake there is nothing wrong with appreciating both your good looks and acting talent!

And on a serious note: I hope all JW readers that are celebrating Memorial day with barbeques, going to the beach, etc. will take time to remember the men and women that have fought in wars in the past and the men and women that are now overseas.

I will not get real political here, my feelings regarding Iraq go from anger to depression and back again. The fact that my niece's husband has received orders for his 2nd tour of duty in Iraq in December doesn't help either.

Have a safe Memorial Day.

In the movie "WOLF,"Jack Nicholson is having a PB&J lunch with a sour, reluctant Michelle Pfieffer, and he makes this wonderful speech, "You're very beautiful. You want me to overlook that and see past that to the real you. But the real you isn't very interesting. You're sullen and rude, and etc. And the only reason anyone would have to look past all that is bcz you're beautiful. So you are your own problem..." It fits a Jessica Alba! But anyone who takes such very good care of themselves, as Jake does, and dresses the way Jake does, and sort of struts the way he does when he's all dressed up and knows he is looking fine, and gets all happy when people scream his name, doesn't actually have a problem with his looks. He is comfortable with it,likes attention. He just wants ppl to look beyond that. And we mostly do.He is talented, smart, funny and sweet. He is sexy. There are lots of "pretty people" out here. Vapid, banal, irrelevant, forgettable.
Very few truly beautiful people.
BTW: TYVM, heddaparsons! We lost family in 'Nam.There are no words in any language to describe adequately how I feel about what is happening today. None at all.

I don't think Jake minds that we appreciate both his looks and his talent, and I'm fairly positive that he is grateful for his physical beauty (just look at the way he teases us!). He's just saying that hearing people go on about how gorgeous he is does nothing for his actor's ego. He was born looking this way, but it's the man he is and the unforgettable characters he's given us that make him so special. And those are the things that he can take pride in because they're his doing.

OT: According to Sky News (eyes roll) there was a "sighting" of Jake and Reese in L.A. having a romantic dinner. It's not online it was a broadcast. If we are to believe it, then Jake is no longer in the UK.

Anonymous said...

What? You thought he'd stay in the UK indefinitely??? Look. Jake can only stay away from his bike for so long.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if he is in MV right now??

Anonymous said...

Well having come fresh from seeing Zodiac I can definitely say Jake has nothing to worry about in the memorable performances department. Jake sure can pick them when it comes to scripts and directors. Who else at his age has such a roster of brilliant performances and great movies to his name?

He is superb in Zodiac- as are all the other actors (yeah I did actually notice them!).

On a complete *squee* note I never thought nerdy, nervy, weird and geeky could also be desirable- but Jake makes it so. It is not *just* his looks- lots of good lookin' people on the planet- none of them are even close to him because he is the whole package, talent, looks and personality.

Oh God- I think I just got a bad case of *fangirl*- but hey I know that y'all know what I mean.

*Thanks God for Jake Watch and 'Lashes*

Maybe YOU should take a dose of your own medicine? That first comment was totally uncalled for.

As for the "subject at hand", it is Jake and not his personal life. Both PG and BPB have requested that gossip be limited to the appropriate thread over at the forum.

I don't think I am the only one having trouble discerning what is ok to post here and what kind of info is crossing the line. I am *ALL FOR* respecting Jakey and not dissing him, but, it's hard to know where the line is, and I am sure that diff ppl have diff tolerances. Just sayin'

Maybe the **new* Jake Watch will delineate more clearly. I know our beloved PG already outlined it once, but I am old and my memory ain't what it used to be. I only remember parts of it, and I don't recall that repeating who he was supposedly sighted with is considered salacious gossip.

It just depends *what* you say about them, but saying that they were spotted together, dining together, hmmmm, sounds ok to meeee.......

Er, okay.

In the new JW, gossip won't be an issue.

It’s like hearing someone say that the earth is round}. I would rather deal with people who appreciate me for what I do in my movies {if I hear anyone else compliment me about Spiderman again...arghhh}. All those lists about Most Sexy Males on earth, that appear in magazines quite often, all disappear when a new sexy actor appears on the horizon {of course I’m not going anywere, it’s the others that will disappear next year, hah}. A good acting performance will withstand the test of time. At least, I hope. {Clooney may have won the Oscar, but does anyone remember his role? How about Jack Twist? Yeah, that’s what I thought}

Don’t worry Jake, I will still remember Bubble Boy when I’m 80. And I don’t believe I’m joking ;-)

Jane, and everybody else, I do apologize if I am rather short-tempered regarding some comments. Seeing that the comment 1) came from yet another Anonymous, who 2) trusts her/his own source so much it merits an eye roll, and 3) included the word "romantic," pushed all of the wrong buttons for me. This individual may not have intended to upset or offend anyone with their information, so for overreacting I again apologize.

However, can you honestly say you don't detect a certain gossipy tang to any unsubstantiated reports that involve sightings of Jake with specific people to whom the tabloids have worked so hard to romantically link him?

IMVHO, what's at issue in this specific instance has nothing to do with the anonymity of the poster, but every thing to do with the post. Personally, I check in here several times a day.I enjoy the banter and the good humor enormously.I also appreciate the little tidbits that keep us connected to the larger world. So I am grateful for reports that Jake is out with Maggie walking Ramona, or Jake with Dad in WeHo, or he spent Easter with the 'rents and got his Easter Bunny. I also appreciate a random sighting on a train, a blogger who spots him at a cheese shop, or someone else who observes him out to dinner with a special friend. I find these random bits reassuring, Jake is in the world, living his life, and everything is good. I can also understand why BPB and PG ask that we take prolonged discussions to the forum for exhaustive dissection. It's pretty simple. Exchanging information as opposed to extended discussions. It seems rather silly to be upset with anyone or antagonistic to news that intimates that Jake has a life and he is living it. No one on this forum, to my knowledge, has a proprietary interest in Jake. I know there are people in this world who firmly believe that one day they will certainly meet Jake, have an amazing conversation with him, they will have incredible chemistry, which will lead to a few dates after which he will fall in love with them and they will get married or have a wild affair with lots of sex. Good on them! I wish them the very best. I truly do. For others, he is just this amazingly beautiful, talented angel and we adore him. He is a source of endless fascination, of joy, and a testament that sometimes those Higher Powers get it right! He is a gift! Jake...who we may fantasize about a little or a lot, but he always make us smile and the world seems a little less harsh. The only people I thought moderated our discussions were PG and BPB or the person they designate. So what I resent is other members of JW telling me or anyone else what subjects we can talk about or that we need to shut up. They may use different words, but the effect is the same. And it dampens the dynamic of fun and really alters the atmosphere. IMVHO, it is not too much different from the trolls that try to be disruptive and negative. I wish it didn't happen. I am saddened by it.
We need to all understand that we come from different perspectives, but we all enjoy each other...most of the time, and we all love Jake.
And that's all I have to say about that. Except that I admire all that PG and BPB have done with this site and cannot wait for the "unveiling."

britpopbaby said...

It's not that PG and I have some moral high ground about gossip, we don't encourage it here because people take one simple sighting and then it's discussed to great lengths which we find quite tedious and dull. Yeah, okay, Reese and Jake might be dating but do I need to read endless theories about it? No. It clogs up the comments and slows down load time which is the main reason the forum was started.

Also, when I or PG have put alot of effort into a post and suddenly the comments dive towards some new pic or some other tidbit off absolute unimportance, it's freakin' annoying.

So, I have no problem with anyone posting a sighting it's just when the essays about 'what it all means' start coming, my back gets up. I really don't understand how people give it so much thought when it's not their own life.

And cherita, I think you were a little harsh in your initial reaction to what was quite a simple comment from someone. You may have disagreed with it but you can't control what is posted in such an open forum - PG and I made a statement a while back at not being able to control the comments all that well which is why we don't really moderate them. We get anons posting here all the time. There is no point reacting, just ignore it if you personally don't like. It doesn't appeared to have offended anyone else.

Maybe...but what I DO take offense at, is personal attacks, such as "Maybe someone should change their name to call_me_bitcherita". That to me was very offensive, and as I stated in an earlier post, totally uncalled for, which is why I spoke up in the first place. Maybe Cherita was a little harsh in her initial reaction, but she has apologized for her short-tempered reaction. But Anon 3:47's snippy comment was just as bad, IMO.

Okay, I'm done. I love this blog, can't wait for the changes, and when conflict occurs, no matter what the source or subject, I'm really bothered by it. But I do realize that people have differing personalities and opinions on things, and conflict is bound to happen. *sigh*

Jake can't help being beautiful! He can grow his hair out to look like a wooly mammoth and he's still Jake! Poor baby! If I ever meet him, I promise that I will not compliment him on his looks. I will talk of cycling and interesting foods and ask intelligent questions about his films and we'll discuss global warming. The thing is, it's not "just" his looks. Jake puts out an extremely sexy vibe. A very strong sex vibe. It's part of him. He doesn't have to try in any conscious way to "be sexy." Or to "act sexy." It is part of his nature. he IS sexy. So when PG/BPB or whoever dubbed him "The Sex" it's bcz he is. You take this incredible natural sexiness combine it with his looks, his body, his openness and his accessible personality, and it is lethal. And you can read it all in those eyes. Those are not empty eyes. Those eyes kill!!!!
It is totally against my nature to lose track of time staring a random pictures of some guy. Except I do it with Jake alllll the time.

OK, here's a question to Anon 2:54 and all the rest of the Agents:

QUOTE:

I agree 1000% of course with all of the statements above, my question is: why do some ppl say Jake is dorky? I don't get it. Is he dorky? Am I blind to his dorkiness? Do any of the Agents think that Jake is dorky? Where is this coming from???

Anybody???

Anonymous said...

Anon 2:54 here. I definitely think Jake actually cultivated dorky in his early films.(H, DD, L&A, GG, MM.) And I'm just speculating here, but maybe Jake didn't feel like he was very handsome in the classic H'wood sense. When he was younger, his looks were unconventional. And even his sister was publically told she wasn't pretty. Rotten when you're young and trying to make it in a business where looks are emphasized! But then with Proof, Jarhead,BBM, and Z, suddenly he looked like "dreamy hunk, Jake Gyllenhaal"
I din't include OS bcz I don't think he deliberately wanted to look dorky, then. I think he thought he just was! And BB was just a total farce and an exaggeration. LOL! Funnily enuf, even when he is trying to look dorky, the sexy thing comes through. It just does. And just by things he's said and not said, I think he was a very sexy, very horny kid from about the age of 13 on...in a cute, mischievous sort of way. Didn't he say something about when he was 12 and some girl was sticking her tongue down his throat? I think it made a real impression on him! LOL! My point is, IMO, Jake can be dorky and sexy at the same time. So many celebs are handsome in a mannequin sort of way. Very few fall into the same class as Jake.(And Maggie for that matter. Because she is very pretty in a very unconventional way.)I think when people comment on his looks, it is to acknowledge that they are unique.

He peed in a wave tank and then told people about it. He's a dork.

britpopbaby said...

Sorry, I didn't zone in on the name-calling. That is out of line - there is no need for that. We're not 12 (most days).

Anonymous said...

Anon 2:54 here. You're right, PG, but all I'm saying is that he can be both The Sex and A Dork. I mean, Holden Wurther was a dork. But he was sexy, too. IMO.

Anonymous said...

Y'all said he never said that. Now you say he said it. I don't need extra help feeling confused. Just so you know.

Becky Heineke said...

^^^ Actually, we said he DID that, not that he SAID that. When in doubt, Google it!! :)

And 2.54, I didn't mean to insinuate that dorkiness and sexiness were mutually exclusive 'cause they're totally not. Quite to the contrary, actually. ;)

Anonymous said...

I'm 11:24.So you are saying Jake peed in a wave tank. But if he didn't tell ppl he peed how would they know? When we were small, Auntie took us to her BFF's pool. She said don't dare pee in the pool bcz the water will turn bright red and get on our bathing suits. My cousin, who eventually went to prison, peed in the pool. Nothing happened. No one knew. Except he couldn't keep his mouth shut and told on himself, a pattern that repeated itself in later years.

call me cherita said...

Yep, he's adorkable all right. He reads books about random subjects (salt?) just because*, breaks into comic voices during all his commentaries, and makes goofy faces a lot. He reminds me of all my nerdy friends in school, except for the fact that none of them looked like that.

*I do this, too, so when I read that about him, it felt good. My strangest random subject so far was quantum physics--a book about string theory. The concept of stochastic ooze blows my mind. *giggle*

Becky Heineke said...

OK. 11.24. He did pee in a wave tank. He did tell people he peed in a wave tank. But the words, "I'm so excited I could pee in a wave tank" never came out of his mouth. Different words about peeing in the wave tank were spoken. It was from this well-known story (about him peeing in a wave tank) that britpopbaby made up the quote in question. The exact order and structure of the words is fictional, but the story is true and we know so because Jake told us about it himself (in different words). But the wave tank he peed in was ENORMOUS and other people peed in it too, so it's not quite the hygienic disaster that peeing in a swimming pool would be.

I hope this answers all of your questions.

welliwont said...

I have a questions: how do you know it was not the hygienic disaster the same as peeing in a pool? To me they are the same thing. And not only that, how do you know how big the water tank was? I always believed that it was no bigger than a swimming pool. (More questions to follow.)

Anonymous said...

Hi, PG! 11:24 here. Can I just say. Thank you SO much! You really cleared things up.

Becky Heineke said...

No, I'm pretty sure the tank in question was the one that they used to film the scene in TDAT outside the library, in which case it was the biggest wave tank ever built (at least up until that time). And the dilution of human urine in a regular-sized swimming pool would actually be enough to not be all that unhygienic. A full bladder of 18 ounces or so is nothing compared to a standard 20 or 25 thousand gallon swimming pool, much less a gargantuan wave tank.

I think that will go down as the weirdest comment I've ever written.

When you really think about it, Jake came This Close to not being that beautiful. That DVD cover for Zodiac? Someone mentioned that Jake's eyes looked crossed??? Well. Suppose they actually were a teensy bit crossed??? And suppose he had to wear glasses with really thick lenses all the time. And suppose he had acne and really oily skin? And suppose he was really pigeon-toed and didn't just look that way once in a while when he's standing still??? Then where would we be?

welliwont said...

Yabbut, didn't Jake say that there were people (plural) - peeing in the water tank, not just himself? So at what concentration does human pee in a water tank become a danger? Your example was only about one person's pee, but what if it was several ppl? Like, say, 35 x 18 ounces x 20 or 25 thousand gallon swimming pool? What then?? (and pls quote your sources, not that I don't believe you PG....)

Anonymous said...

Look. It's a forest and trees thing. The real point is that Jake did it. And he told on himself.
The contamination issue, and the number of potential pissers is not nearly as important as Jake. Jake is all I care about. The rest can just...piss off! I am more concerned with Jake's concerns about outer beauty/inner beauty. Clearly, he is in for the long haul, and will ponder this conundrum for many years.

I think ppl have finally gone 'round the bend...that's how granny described it. I think we need a sighting.

Becky Heineke said...

Well, I came up with the first set of numbers because a) I have a degree in biology and b) my parents have a pool. When it comes to looking up the toxicity of urine in large bodies of water, as well as how it would enter the human body to cause detrimental effects (diffusion through the skin, drinking, through cuts and abrasions, etc), and the repercussions on the human immune system, I'll leave that research to someone else. None of these things can be answered off the top of my head. ;)

1.30 is right. We've hit a low. There were some pics on JJ a couple days ago from LA but we didn't post them because of their extreme lack of interesting-ness. Perhaps we should reconsider...
