FINALLY!

All European fans finally catch Jake in action this weekend as his new film opens on May 4th. I, personally, am so excited. I feel like I've been waiting for this film since 2004. It'll be so good to see our man in a, y'know, darker role and seeing Jake do all the press for it just recently has driven my anticipation levels up to, like, 10, ha no,...11!
Oh wait,no... Dang! I always get those two mixed up.

I am baffled how ANYONE could confuse Jake with Tobey Maguire.IMVHO, they have NEVER resembled one another. I would never want to see Tobey take a shower. Ugh! And honestly? Tobey doesn't seem nice or accessible or as cool as Jake. Jake seems so comfortable when he's out and about.Sometimes Jake looks irritated by the paps. But in general Jake looks comfortable and peaceful and Tobey always seems to be tense. When Jake has that brooding, sexy look in his eyes, Tobey just looks scarey to me! LOL! When I heard Tobey would be Spidey I didn't see how he could do it.I thought he was just all wrong. But then he did do it. It worked!! Great! Tobey IS Spidey. I really don't want to think about Jake ever replacing him....Jake should have something all his own. And Tobey should look happier for goodness sake! (BTW: I DO think Tobey is a fine actor!)

Somewhere Tobey M is jumping with joy at the thought that there are still some who confuse him with the most exquisite creature to grace the face of this earth.

You really had me going there. At first I was thinking, "WTF? Has Brits really confused Tobey and Jake? Does she know something the rest of us don't?" And then of course, I got to the bottom....LOL!

I'm with Shower Lady...I know Brits is kidding, but ppl really do get the 2 confused, and it is a total mystery to me. I mean, come on! Tobey can't hold a candle to our Jake!

Ok, I just choked on some water I was drinking!

IMO, Tobey looks more like Elijah Wood than Jake, didn't they play brothers in The Ice Storm???

Anonymous said...

I saw Tobey being interviewed with Kirsten on Jonathan Ross the other night, and tbh I can see why those fools who are unaware of, or immune to, the God-like wonder that is Jake could get them confused. But to a fully paid up Gyllenhaalic like myself, Tobey just came across as a cheap market stall version of Jake. Not only in the looks department, he has none of Jake's charm, wit or humour either. I'm sure if JR asked Jake when was the last time he masturbated, he would have a better comeback than just squirming and looking embarrassed :D

call me cherita said...

Hedda, I suspect that Tobey and Elijah were nature's practice attempt at and failure to repeat, respectively, the creature that is Jake. There can be only one.

P.S. Yes, I think they are also fine actors, and in no way do I consider what I've said to be insulting--it's a high compliment!

In the unlikely event that you're ever tempted to mix those two up again, let me just recommend you watch Jarhead.
Peter Parker dancing around in a santa hat? Nope didn't think so either.

^^^ROFLMAO!!

LOLOL!

That was like dog poo!

kokodee & pink mist!!! LOL!!!!
Actually, I think Jared Leto was God's practice attempt. I think Jared can be a fine actor. I used to think he was totally gorgeous...and then Jake grew up and suddenly Jared was like....whut? Honestly, Jake is exquisite. There's no one even close. And Jarhead is the perfect standard against which to measure all these others. The very BEST shower.

Anonymous said...

I can see how people mix them up, but Toby is always Gyllenlite to me, the same features and same colouring is there, but they just don't hang together in the same divine way that Jake's do. He also lacks Jake's natural charisma

Plus Jake has a gorgeous beaming toothy (sorry) smile, whereas Toby always looks to me like he's forgotten to put his top dentures in.

BTW, I do think Toby is a very good actor as well.

Omg kokodee that was hilarious!
i just spat water all over my pc.
the image alone will scar me for life.

Anonymous said...

Guess last time you look ta them was ~10 years ago? These days Tobey looks like Jake's uncle.

There was a kind of indirect mentioning of Jake..(replacing Tobey...blabla) in the Jonathan Ross show with Kirsten and Tobey...

No offense to Tobey M. fans, but that guy is soooo boring.....

Okay, just watched the link.

I never saw how anyone could confuse them before, but NOW?? I mean, really, people? Not to knock Toby, but there just IS NO COMPARISON!!!

Anonymous said...

The ONLY similarities I see is they both have dark hair and blue eyes, they're both white, and they're both actors. Other than that....anyone who can't tell them apart is either blind or an ignoramus (no offense to the blind or to ignoramuses everywhere).

The Chemistry Guru said...

Talk about awkward! Makes me appreciate Jake's ease with interviewers...even when he veers of into gyllenbabble at least he's never boring.

Aww you just hurt my feelings.
Where Tobey is mentioned, I'd like to remain both blind and ignorant thank you very much.

I think we're just a teeensy bit spoiled. We go into these interviews and forget for a moment that with Jake, you're dealing with someone who is confident. Someone with a P.E.R.S.O.N.A.L.I.T.Y. Some one who is so ...ok...exquisite.. that he takes your breath away simply by walking onto the set, a smile, a wave hello, shake hands, unbutton jacket, sit down. Rub thighs. (sigh.) Rub hands together. Squeeze thighs again. (squeeee!) Pound on chair arms. And do the Whoo-ooo! (He even excites himself!) By now he has our FULL attention. We hang on every single little thing. How his hair is styled, how he smiles, his chemistry with the host, his wardrobe, the color of his shoes. Was Tobey wearing shoes? Every syllable of Gyllenbabble is memorable. We need to know about his life, his mum, his dad, his sister, his niece, his friends, his hobbies and interests. Did he return a call to play basketball? Will he come back again? Where's he been? Where's he goin'? Even the hosts...all of them. Male and female. They are totally smitten with him. They are actually nervous. They stutter. They have to wheel around on their chairs, get up and walk away for a second. They ASK him if they resemble him for goodness sake! He has to keep re-telling the pissing on a jellyfish sting over and over again no matter what country he's in, bcz people are fascinated at the idea that Jake pisses.
Tobey? Meh.

^^^ You have a point.

ROFLMAO, Showerlady! That was such a perfect synopsis of the experience, I felt like I was reliving all the Zodiac interviews at once. ;)

And it looks like my latest avatar might be making an impression on everyone's vocabulary. LOL!

Tobey's not a bad person. I saw him on the Today Show and he seems very nice...he is also a good actor. I don't think he compares himself to Jake. It just happened. But he is SO not Jake.
Not even in the same...universe...
I don't dislike him. He's just not Jake. So there's Jake and then there's Not!Jake.

Oh darling i can't wait to see Jake in this film!

I seriously can't wait until this Friday: SPIDERMAN 3, YES!!!!

DIdn't Tobey used to go out with Kirsten? As did Jacob Hoffman, (Dustin's boy,) and Adam Levine from Maroon 5, and Jason Schwarzman??? Boy, that Mary Jane.
And Spidey wants to marry her.

^^^LOL, Kokodee! Great analysis!

I remember watching Jake host SNL. It was the first time since I became a Jake fan that I'd seen him on LIVE television. I was MESMERIZED, glued to the television set. No kidding, if anyone had interrupted my viewing of SNL that night, particularly the opening sequence, I probably would be in prison now for murder. I couldn't get enough...everything he did delighted me. *sigh* Ah, the memories...

And then of course, came all the appearances for Zodiac. I was in heaven, sheer heaven.

You are so right, Kokodee. Everything he does fascinates us, and not just us...the audience and even his hosts are mesmerized! WHAT does he have than ordinary mortals don't?!

The Chemistry Guru said...

heehee ncwoman, i think you'll find that theshowerlady, aka tsl gets all the credit for that brilliant analysis.
And I agree with every word of it.

kirsten didn't go out with jason schwartzman but she did date his band-mate alex greenwald, prior to hooking up with jake in 2002. you can see pics of them at kirstendunst.org
girl sure knows how to pick'em.

I used to think there was a slight resemblance between the Tobey and Jake in some of Jake's younger pics. Take a look at the look in the eyes in his picture on the "official" webpage. But now, no - Jake is, as Cherita so aptly put it in her avatar, exquisite. I do love Tobey as an actor tho, and cannot wait for Spidey 3.

Shaken, not stirred

And today is Kristen's Birthday: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

PS: I don't think she and Tobey dated, it was something the tabs made up and they neither confirmed nor denied, sound familiar?? Also, yes she did date Dustin Hoffman's son Jacob who I believe middle name is also Benjiman!

Anonymous said...

Who cares about Kirsten?!?

Anonymous said...

Jake, Tobey and Kristen fan

12:28: well since this is basically a Spiderman post and she dated Jake and it's her b'day, why not? Never got the Kristen hate, seems rather immature IMO. She has an immpressive resume for someone so young and I would rather spend $$$ going to the movies to see her than the other actresses her age in HW.

Anonymous said...

LOL 12:28...guess it was all part of the fevered anticipation for Spiderman. Her name just came up...like indigestion. (burp!)

Anonymous said...

Kirsten hate? I don't care about her.

Just try to stay on the subject, will you please! (You can read about it on the home page.)

"...i think you'll find that theshowerlady, aka tsl gets all the credit for that brilliant analysis."

Ooops, my apologies, TSL! Thanks for pointing that out, Kokodee!

Kirsten-bashing?

I think that's crap, and for me, it's all about Jakey, of course. If he fell in love with her, which we all know that he did, and very deeply in love, that's good enough for me.

Kirsten must have loveable qualities... Hellooooo! she was his very first head-over-heels-in-love girlfriend! For me it's a no-brainer.

Lol, wishfull thinking... But I sure would've loved to see Jake do all that press work! And of course seeing him in spandex for two hours wouldn't hurt.

I do wish that Jakey would go back to his indie roots though or/and even do a play. Well, that's just my wishfull thinking...

Anonymous said...

I don't think this is the right time in Jake's career to risk going back to indie movies.

Maggie G: „With a movie like Sherrybaby, I love it, I’m proud of it, and I believe in it. But it’s so much work to get a little movie like that made, to get it seen, to get it bought, to get it into theaters—it’s almost like you have to be a producer. That makes me look at little independent movies more closely—like, do I really want to spend years, or not? I want people to see the movies I make. I’m not just acting for me.“

Article on MSNBC featuring Top 5 Picks to replace Tobey Maguire if he doesn't return for Spidey 4 (keep in mind this is MSNBC speculating, not fact):

"Jake Gyllenhaal:
'Donnie Darko' probably gives Gyllenhaal instant fanboy approval and street cred, but the biggest question with this multi-talented actor isn’t “Would he make a great Spider-Man?” but “Would he want the role?” At this point in his career the main advantage for Gyllenhaal becoming Spider-Man is so he can buy himself a yacht or a Gulfstream jet. Otherwise, the guy seems to have producers lining up to give him great roles. Why put the brakes on that kind of career, especially if another director takes over for Sam Raimi and the whole thing goes downhill as it inevitably will? It appears he can do just about anything. One minute he’s a convincing gay cowboy (“Brokeback Mountain) and the next minute he’s a cartoonist for the San Francisco Chronicle in the ‘70s (“Zodiac”). It’s that kind of fearlessness combined with vulnerability that would make a great Spider-Man."

Jake and Tobey? Apples and oranges. Really big, red, ripe, fresh juicy, delicious apples and kind of smallish, soft, faded oranges.

Don't get me wrong - no one does Spidey like Tobey - I wouldn't want to see anyone else do it, even Jake. For my money, though, I'm most looking forward to seeing Topher Grace as Venom. Now *that's* a fine actor. In every sense of the word. But I digress. Tobey is a very good actor, but he is not a great one, and he doesn't have the range Jake (or Topher Grace) has. Not even close.

New pics of Jake and Atticus up on IHJ. The caption says thet he was reading a script, we can only hope!!

Anonymous said...

PLZ make it be true!!! Read scripts, Jake. Lots of them. Pick out three or four you want to do. Pass them along to me for my review. We'll tell them: "No shower - no movie!" It's just a negotiating point, hon. I'll settle for you taking your shirt of..a lot...is it time to remake Castaway? How about "The Beach?" You could SO do Leo's part!!!

Anonymous said...

Jake spends an hour or two at the dog park and they are saying he "spent the day." Looks like the paps stayed far enuf away to not bother him too much. I notice with German Shepherds and Pit Bulls
(like Jessica Biel's two Pit Bulls) the paps tend to keep their distance...how cool is that! LOL!

Anonymous said...

While I miss Boo, I really think Atticus is SO sexy... I think Jake has entered a new phase. Jake is totally, consciously doing sexy. Before, he wasn't consciously doing it. Now he is. And Atticus fits bcz he's very sexy too.

Anonymous said...

A new script for Jake? Yay! And I like your thought, Anon. 3:13, about the dogs keeping the paps at bay! :)

Dam, they shoulda mentioned his singing on SNL. I think his opening monologue was beyond brilliant. Stunning, unforgettable, "one of the great moments in television history" as Diane Sawyer put it. What an amaaaazing talented tasty morcel he is! He should get an award for that performance. I've watched it fifty times at least, they are gonna show it on this week's show as part of the "best of 2006-2007", in case anyone was not aware. This Saturday, I do believe.

No-o-o-o, I like Tobey, he is so masculine deep inside, he was so sweet in Pleasantvile, he, and it is so rare, seem INTELLIGENT!!! Ain't he?

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the FYI! Will definitely catch it on SNL! I've watched the clip over ad over, too, but there's something about seeing it on TV. He is a tasty morsel isn't he!
