QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"But of course I’ve had a lot of young girls come up to me and they’re so cute and so sweet and I’m so flattered. It happens a lot with them and it’s pretty cool that the same day you’ll go to a street fair and a guy who has no pants on, like his butt cheeks are coming out of his leather pants, and he says he likes my movie too."
Jake Gyllenhaal, chap of the fans, fan of the chaps, .

What kind of street fairs are these, Jake?

sounds interesting.

kaydee, a very scientifically-minded person would like to see that, for purely scientific reasons, of course

And what movie Jake???

"A guy with no pants on..." HUH???

?

if you mean what i think you mean then i don't like what you're saying

or perhaps i'm too sensitive after all that drama of the past few days...?

smurfette said...

hmm, kaydee, i'm not sure, but isn't chap just british for lad, guy, that kind of meaning?

anyway, i remember this quote. i think it can be filed with the many other jake quotes that are completely but adorably incoherent!

what drama?

Congratulations to Britpop for winning The Gilded Moose's caption contest this week!

Personally, I've never been lucky enough to see a guy with bare butt cheeks hanging out of his chaps at a Manhattan street fair. (I assume that the Naked Cowboy doesn't count, since his butt cheeks are covered over. Anyway, he stays around Times Square & doesn't show up at West Village street fairs. At least, not in character.) Jake, are you sure you aren't thinking of the Halloween or the Pride parades? Now, on those occasions, I have indeed seen some rather memorably muscular exposed butt cheeks. But in the main, street fairs are somewhat rag-taggle & seedy -- there's a pervasive aroma of fried food & a dozen or so flea market vendors hoping to break even, selling crafts & overstocked cosmetics & the kind of cheap silver jewelry you tire of at the age of 16. Maybe Jake gets really good deals on socks at the street fairs? I could see that.

Sort of chilly no? and where would you sit?

Fashion's just never practical.

Chaps are also those leather pants that cowboys wear who are open in the rear. But of course they have jeans under them... Mostly.

i once saw a woman in a "naked suit" riding a bike through a street fair in the village. the naked suit was this skin tone body suit made of something like pantyhose, complete with fake nipples over the breast pads, and it was completely bizarre to see coming from afar.

OT: anneka, if you're around and free, can i make a request for you to do one of your fabulous reviews/recaps of jake's long-awaited SNL stint this saturday? do you get it at the same time in the UK?

There are street fairs which are not for those people with a delicate nature, for example the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco
Folsom Street Fair

I wouldn't know if Jake went there, but there may be something similar in Los Angeles.

Ummm, yeah. That Folsom Street Fair looks like something from the pages from Honcho Magazine. No, this is not your general scene at the Manhattan street fairs. Jake's probably thinking of the West Coast.

Maybe it was:

"Bubble Butt Boy"

"Poof"

"Bareback Mountin"

"Moonlight Smile"

lol

I'll have to field this question for Anneka. We don't get SNL at all in the UK, hence my lack of enthusiasm over it. I'm just hoping someone YouTubes that bitch.

Plus it's tough to parody, parody.

Jake was THERE?

Newport Girl, those were hysterical! I'm grinning from cheek to cheek! ;-)

veeveevee said...

BP...no SNL access over there? If I knew how to YouTube, I certainly would for you and all the agents across the pond!

britpopbaby said...

Oh and thanks for the Moose love. I knew Wacko would be the making of me.

We've never had SNL in the UK as far as I'm aware, not even on the satellite channels :(

But I still know about "more cowbell" for some reason...

dottieb said... "Jake was THERE?"

No, not one said he was there, just that the sight of bare butt and leather in public is not something very unusual in certain street fairs on the West Coast (or at least San Francisco, don't know about Los Angeles).

Perhaps some agents might take care he doesn't get near one of these fairs? He might get hurt. Those contraptions look dangerous.

Look, I'm sure he was just admiring the strawberry jam at the organic home preserves stall when an X-rated homage to The Village People wandered past and decided to show the love.

smurfette said...

sad! i'm sure folks will youtube the heck out of the best snl skits from this saturday though. JT has def moved back into my good graces after his hilarious d-ck in a box skit recently

nice anonymous said...

Indeed, anon 9:54, I can see it exactly like that. Jake was probably just buying a pack of tube socks (three for $5) and contemplating getting a bag of kettle corn because it smelled so good when a gentleman trussed up in more silver-studded leather than a Budweiser Clydesdale approached him with compliments on his achievement in film.

[Or something like that. Anyway, it's one of my favorite Jake quotes.]

Jake, this wouldn't happen to be the street festival in the Castro district (SF) would it? Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Oh Jake...as much as I"d love to say..something witty..I just can't. I think you're just perfect. I love the quote

The G's seem rather bohemian in general--I wouldn't be at all surprised if they all went to things like the Folsom Street Fair as a family. Sometimes places like that are surprisingly wholesome: yeah, the guy's butt cheeks are hanging out, but he's selling handmade birdhouses.

Or windchimes.

Anonymous said...

There are many street fairs in NYC thru out the summer. And you are liable to see anything at them some are, of course more festive than others!

perfectscore_goldstar said...

Dangit ! I was gonna say something about the windchimes and I got beat ! Oh well ! ! !

LOL @ Newport Girl ... I am REALLY starting to wonder about her meds (like in the other post*s*)

I wish I could be one of the girls that goes up to Jake...but then again, I'd probably either just sit their like an idiot and drool or say something stupid/attack him crazily...just wait until I transfer to a college in California...then I'l bump into you one day I hope, oh man I'm am a loser...I wonder if Jake would ever consider wearing assless chaps in public, that'd be a sight to see...

aw.. he is just too cute!
And i dont think id have the guts to go up to him either. I hope if we ever crossed paths, i absoutley literally run into him, then i have no choice but to communicate!- at the very least to say 'sorry!'
And we dont get SNL either... im sure someone on here or IHJ will have that online within minutes *hopes!*

He's very likely referring to the Folsom Street Fair. It was going on one of the weekends while he was filming Zodiac, right by where some of the street scenes were being shot.

Makes sense. Who better than an actor to appreciate a very theatrical self-presentation?

omg, haven't heard this one before :)
