QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Happy 2007 Jake Watchers! Your randomly selected nugget of Jake wisdom for the week:

“He asked if I’d remembered to bring a good pair of Velcro gloves. I was devastated because I hadn’t, but promised him I would get a pair immediately." source

- Jake "I'm about as citified as a boy can get" Gyllenhaal

Velcro gloves? Seriously?

Also, there is an important announcement in the forum regarding the Jake Watch policy of steering clear of Jake's private life. We ask that you not make a big deal about this and keep your comments on the issue limited to the forum for the time being. Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

There's the dorkishness we know and love.

I think I'll send him a pair of velcro gloves as a belated birthday present (I'm sure he remembers this interview? Right?)

You know what makes this such a typically great Jake story to me? It's that he was 'devastated" that he forgot to bring the velcro gloves..... bless his heart!

Have to admit (being a citified girl) I would have totally fallen for the joke, too.

yeh i agree anon blonde, i thought that too. hes just such a sweet guy.... everybody together now... "awwww*

Those were cute quotes. I had to go and read that article cause I didn't get the velcro thing.

I think it was in France? that they would remove their gloves slap the offending person with the glove to show contempt.
and commence to a duel?

Didn't that happen in an episode of Dynasty? Okay, every episode of Dynasty?

cina said...

Hahaha, that is so sweet! In his ambition to be professional and sincere, he gets so innocently naïve that he swallows anything - hook and sink! LOL
It's so endearing I don't know what to do with myself!

It was cute that he fell for the joke...but even cuter that he admitted to it later.

what are velcro gloves (i'm a citified girl myself)?

and jake fighting a duel? in tight pants, a cape and with a fluffy lacy collar and knee-long boots? drool.. sigh...

Had Jake actually worn Velcro, there wouldn't be that great photo of him biting on what I assume was the leather lacing of his glove to draw it tighter.

I really, really like that photo.

nice anon, where is it?

i'm drooling already.

It's relatively early in the AM here and I feel as if I'm wading thru sludge to get my brain functioning. So can someone plz tell me what joke Jake didn't "get?" Bcz I'm at least a half step behind....

cina said...

The joke was that he need velcro gloves to ride a horse.

Anonymous said...

Kaydee, I'm nearly certain that picture (Jake with a leather lacing between his teeth) was one of the "behind the scenes" still photographs taken from set of "Brokeback Mountain."

Anonymous said...

Ok, got it but am kinda disappointed, imagined somth so much better from your description :P

veeveevee said...

^^oh no...I love that picture...the way he's standing...his jawline...the pull of his teeth...

Sigh. I guess I'm just a sucker for any picture - as long as it's got Jake in it, I'm all over it!

Dear God I'm slow - thanks Cina.

Oh it was Dynasty? hmm
I just remember the hair pulling?

No, that was us New Year's Eve right before you hurled me into a fountain.

cina said...

Dear God I'm slow - thanks Cina.

LOL You're welcome girlfriday. ;)

Somehow, now that I hear Jake can be as gullible as me, I love him EVEN more!!

Someday soon, I 'd love to see Jake work with George Clooney. Clooney is a notorious prankster and I think he and Jake together
would be hilarious. I think Jake's personality and temprament would lend themselves well to George's machinations.

This is OT, but the word needs to get out - The Hello! magazine grand finale is underway, and Jake is one of 12 contenders. Currently he's in 10th place, but we can make that up if we all vote. You can vote every 15 minutes. This is one of the better polls to spend a little effort on. The link is http://www.hellomagazine.com/vote/grand-finale2006/hombreatractivo.html?pantalla=hombreatractivo

(Be sure you get all that, then bookmark it!)

Oo, I'm SO with you on that, veeveevee!!

someone is taking the piss big style in that hello poll....Britney Spears is winning the Most Elegant Female by a MILE.

cina said...

I just bumped Jake up to number 9! :)

Anonymous said...

Interesting poll choices on this Hello magazine site.

"Elegant" is not a word that I'd ever associated before with Britney Spears.

Jake, on the other hand ... they should have put him in a tuxedo, and thrown a maroon cashmere scarf over his shoulder. Now that's what I call "elegant."

veeveevee said...

Congrats, Cina! I'm working on bumping him up to #8. And together we can work on bumping him to #1.

I mean, really...who is this Sean Bean guy? He's no Jake Gyllenhaal, that's for sure!

Anonymous said...

Agants, only 22 more votes and he'll be #8

Anonymous said...

I can't believe the HELLO poll is using a pic of Jake with sun glasses on. Are they afraid his amazing blue eyes will give him an edge?

I'm voting a gazillion times.

Anonymous said...

Apparently the weekly candidates in the Hello poll are taken from articles in the previous week's issue. Then those winners competer for monthly winner, etc. Apparently it's a British magazine, which is probably why I don't recognize some of the cotestants.

cina said...

I actually like that picture they have chosen! And I'm voting like crazy too, inbetween reading fanfics. ;D

Anonymous said...

^^ and apparently one month they made a Special Edition: The Ugliest Men Alive that featured some monsters, and the most attractive among them was that Hugh Laurie guy.
:P

Anonymous said...

^^ it was in response to dottieb's comment. I am voting like crazy in between reading fanfic too :)

britpopbaby said...

Hello! is a British magazine and their mainly obsessed with the Royals. Jake isn't actually that huge of a star in the UK so that's perhaps why he isn't doing so well.

Anonymous said...

Cina I love that picture of Jake too but his eyes are so beautiful.

cina said...

Well you're absolutely right about that mpom. Couldn't possibly argue on that one! LOL

*melts by the mere thought of those Gyllenhaal deep blue*

Anonymous said...

And if it HAD to be a pic of him in sungalsses it should be the one of him in THE SHIRT

veeveevee said...

^^mpom, they can't use the picture of Jake in THE SHIRT...if they did, the sheer number of votes, even from non-Jake fans, would blow their computer systems to smithereens!

Anonymous said...

I put THE SHIRT photo on my laptop wall paper and the battery, only about 2 months old, blew out. I never realized the imense power of that pic.

Anonymous said...

I just voted at the Hello magazine site, and I must say....

Hugh Laurie?!? Kiefer Sutherland?!?!? WTF??!?!?!?!

There is NO WAY those dudes are hotter than the Gyllenhaal.

Somebody has weird taste.

Anonymous said...

If I weren't voting for Jake, I'd be voting for Hugh Laurie. He's terrific in House, and very attractive in a gruff, middle-aged way.

veeveevee said...

Jake's at #8 - we're moving him up!

salailama said...

wow, i just spent an embarrassing amt of time catching up with jake news on the net! who knew so much jake news happens over the holidays? but now i know not to spend so much time away hehe. btw, i LOVE hugh laurie. house is a great show.

Anonymous said...

Hey! I like Hugh Laurie, too. But if I have to choose between him and Jake, no contest. Jake owns me!!!!

Anonymous said...

This is OT but I found this link on IMDB about the fire that Jake and his family were involved in at Manka's lodge on the 28th. A great deal of praise for Jake in this post.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0350453/board/thread/62786652?d=62788828#62788828
He just sounds like such a regular guy despite the fact that we all know how special he really is.

cina said...

WORD!!

And Jake is now number 7! :)

Sam said...

cmon guys, us gyllenhaalics have to make him number 1! we just have to, its our freeaaaking job!

If i wasnt voting for jake it be voting for robbbbieeee!!!!

Anonymous said...

Sean Bean has over 3000 votes, I don´t get it....and we have beaten Jon Bon Jovi the last time - we can do it again.

Where are the Gyllenhaalics? No 7 is NOT acceptable.

s4m985 - if not for Jake, I also would vote for the Robster...

Anonymous said...

i just made a quick count: if we voted like good girls&boys every 15 mintues, and seens there were 166 of us at the JW survey, it would make 4 votes an hour x 24 hours a day x 166 JW agents = 15936 votes a day.

and he's at 840... clearly, we're slacking :D

Anonymous said...

if not for jake, i'd be voting for colin firth

Anonymous said...

Hogmanay Greetings from Edinburgh Britpopbaby!

sorry so delated but have been without internet over hols and seem to have missed lots of excitement...

Anonymous said...

Great job guys! When I fell asleep last night Jake was still #9, now he's #7.

Jake is far and away the best looking of this lot, or any other lot for that matter.

Hugh Jackman is cute, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, both, moderately sexy, and I like House too but no way is Hugh Laurie even close.

Beauty must be really in the eye of the beholder.

Lessons for 2007- don't do lists! how could I have forgotten NRM, TBL, Phoebe, Muffin, Nice Anon and all the other lovely people here in my New Year Wishes?

Hope 2007 is good for everyone.

Anonymous said...

I love that quote!

First day back to work after the long holiday, sigh. I hope everyone had a happy and safe New Years and hoping that everyone at JW has a incredible New Year!

Anonymous said...

Happy New Year to you as well, Joyce!

And yes, I agree with the previous poster who suggested that the taste displayed in this poll is somewhat eccentric. IMHO, Kiefer Sutherland doesn't really belong in the same league as Jake. And who knew that people still cared so much about Jon Bon Jovi? Must be the pleasures of nostalgia.

Whenever I vote in one of these online polls, I feel like a rat in a lab experiment pulling repeatedly on a lever to get its little feed pellet. They are SO annoying.

RS thread on Jake and the Shins upcoming appearance on SNL:

I hope he just relaxes and has fun with the SNL gig.
