JAKE'S SNL PROMO: 12 HOURS LATER

Still pretty random. Thank you, veeveevee for uploading this to YouTube! That was some fast-thinking agently work you did there. I give it a 7 for randomness and a 10 for goofy-off-screen-Gyllenhaal-grin-y-ness.

Watch all 10 glorious seconds of it here. And yes, the tongue does make a cameo.

I don't know why, okay I do, but that little 10 second bit had me laughing so hard.

We'll see how the Saturday Night Live writers & crew approach "Brokeback" after all that's been said & done in all the late-night comedy monologues & skits. Can they make it fresh, after all that?

Also, will the writers open up the can of worms that is the online discussion of Jake's sexual preferences? (Which I don't care to go over YET AGAIN here -- I am only wondering if the SNL writers will touch it or not.)

What will the blogs & message boards look like on Sunday, as soon as the show is over? Will they be criticizing Jake and/or the SNL writers for his choices? Every time Jake makes a public appearance at award shows & etc., and has to respond to gay jokes & wisecracks made by other actors & celebrities, afterward we all engage in the ritual of re-hashing he handled himself & the way the others behaved toward him.

This post-appearance discussion & scrutiny should be pretty interesting. I hope we can keep it light-hearted, as is befitting a humor blog ... but I wonder.

veeveevee, you've done a fine thing for all of Jake fandom.

Thanks for uploading that so quickly.

Well done!

You're welcome, everyone!

I enjoyed it so much (watched it several times in a row on my dvr), so I was sure all other agents would enjoy it as well!

i can't view it now (at work), but i just have to agree with all of nice anon's conflicting thoughts in anticipation of snl. i'm excited but nervous for all the mentioned points! hope we won't be left with anything akin to the weirdness of the mtv awards. good luck jake (cuz he's reading this haha) and hope for the best!

I saw it last night and taped it for myself. I thought he seemed a wee bit nervous, but he gave that goofy lop-sided grin of his at the end :-)

I noticed, watching it again, that it seems like he might have a bit of a cold/cough in the way he's breathing.

Wow. I have too much time on my hands... :-)

i just found this funny post someone did on jake's pre oscar pic:
http://jimsmash.blogspot.com/2007/01/rising-threat-jake-gyllenhaal.html

i'm hoping he'll be his loose and natural self this weekend, ala the pre oscars last year, and not stressed or uptight ala the mtv movie awards. EEK! so excited!

LOL! Once i'm crying. Please lord, can you put SNL on TV here in England!

I Just. Can't. Wait!!! :)

Cina do you get that channel??

Sorry for my worried-sounding post ... I should add that I'm thrilled for Jake, that I hope he's going to have a lot of fun, enough so that maybe he'll come back & do another one ... or two ... and I'll be so glad to see him up there, at last. I was hoping all last year that he'd host Saturday Night Live. He always seemed perfect for doing exactly this kind of thing. I'll be raising my glass of wine to Jake when he runs out on the stage.

"And yes, the tongue does make a cameo."

Oh my God, I just paid attention to this line!! ROTFL!!

Cina do you get that channel??

No sweetie I don't, but I put my hopes to IHJ and Youtube. :)

I also share niceanonymous'concerns about the show...and more specifically, the aftermath. I wasn't bothered by the MTV stuff nearly as much as I was by the ESPN crap and what I perceived as Jake's obvious discomfort. I want my Sweet One to be comfy and enjoying himself. Truthfully, I'm so happy to have a real time, real life opportunity to watch Jake being Jake on TV for 90 minutes (OK. but his presence will be felt when he's not on camera! LOL!) That I don't really give a pig's arse what the blogs bloviate about in the days following. Some will like it but they will be out numbered by the "scab pickers." The people who dwell in the land of Negative. Who pick and pick and pick at small somethings, only satisfied with a festering mess. I will tune them out. We do not live in the same universe.

I am loving that cute 10 seconds of Jakeness....can't wait to hear about and then hopefully see his SNL appearance. Hope he isn't too nervous and that he gets some decently wriiten skits to perfom.

I know...Jake is such a comic genius (Bubble Boy, anyone?) that I hope they put their best writers on the case and came up with some genuinely funny stuff, and don't resort to juvenile, so-last-year BBM jokes.

Wanna see a really out of focus picture of Jake?

http://www.postmoderncritic.com/userimages/user1461_1164708948.jpg

I'm pretty sure it's him... ^^

I agree that there shouldn't be any BBM skits, Jake is so naturally funny. I just hope they wrote some really funny sketches for him, that show really hasn't been funny in a while IMO.

24 MORE HOURS!!!

Anonymous said...

I hate to admit it, but..... I'm really not expecting much from Jake's SNL appearance. This show hasn't been funny for a long time, and it seems unlikely that the writers are suddenly going to become brilliantly humorous just for Jake. I really admire him for taking such a risk, but I'm not otimistic that he will get material worthy of his talents. God, I hope I'm wrong!

Thanks for posting the promo veeveevee!! I'm so excited about Jake being on SNL. I wouldn't be surprised it they bring in Heath Ledger for a Brokeback Mountain parody. I'm sure they'll have a Donnie Darko skit too.

OH God I can't wait!!!
I'm counting down!!!!

Go you good thing! Break a leg Jake!

I've been keeping low key lately... just moved house but slowly getting settled in.

Cheers everyone. Can't wait to see this SNL program thingy with the ONE, the ONLY, Gyllybabe JAKE.

Break a leg, Jake darlin'!

I am SO excited!!!! Jake for 90 minutes on my TV just being his adorable, sexy self!!!! Can't wait!I am in total agreement about the BBM jokes. ENUF! They can't be that bankrupt! Personally, i think they have been inviting Jake to host SNL for a long while and he was finally able to do it. I'm nervous for him. But, I know however lame or stupid the show is, Jake will be fine.

cina said...

We love you Jakey! Good luck tonight!

And enjoy the show all you lucky americans who can see it live! :)

cina said...

^^ Can I please change that to "break a leg" instead of "good luck"? I don't think good luck is apropriate... LOL! Ma'bad!

LOL! Good catch there, Cina girlfriend!

For those who're not familiar, it's bad luck in theater to wish someone good luck. So you say "break a leg". Just in case some of y'all out there thought we were wishing our Jake ill tonight!

goofy-off-screen-Gyllenhaal-grin-y-ness

only noticed it today. LOLOLOL. and it's an extremely apt description too :)))

I'm with nice anonymous on this.
Kind of twitchy these days when it comes SNL, cause back in the day this show rocked.
I hate cringing, makes me look like an infant with gas.
