BACK AWAY FROM MY MAN

Usually when we scream like banshees at unauthorised people approaching The Gyllenhaal we have some form of imagery to roll with. Not so this time, but still deeply, deeply concerning:

[The] fact that he's been the most down to earth, gorgeous celebrity I've ever met, yes, I'll say he's packing heat. In other words, his personality makes him super sexy. When I met Jake Gyllenhaal he was SO unbelievably nice, chillin' backstage at a Maroon5 concert with a baseball cap on a little low, trying to be somewhat discreet, but talking to anyone who approached him.

I said, "Hey what's up? So are you a big Maroon 5 fan?" And he said, "Actually, I used to go to school with these guys." Smiling all big and shit, yes, both Jake and I. It was love at first sight. Then, we launched into a conversation and not only did he keep perfect eye contact the entire time, I think he was interested in what I had to say. His muscles were bulging from under his shirt, he looked delicious, maybe he was filming Jarhead at the time.

His eyes were so beautiful and I had to actually end the conversation and walk away, cuz he would have kept talking. He's a wonderful man. Obviously, I regret not attempting to ass myself out and take more advantage of the situation. SO hawt Jake!! Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!

What to do? What to do? I'm torn. On the one hand, I usually like to support fellow bloggers as our task is an arduous and thankless one and I really don't want to claw someone called 'Joy' to pieces, especially at this time of year, BUT this is Jake we're talking about and to hear such utterances as 'eye contact' and 'packing heat', I'd say a short, fast trip to the blacklist is in order.

For now, I'm just going to mark you down as ‘Gyllenhaalic: mildly unstable’ (new definition table coming soon) and presume any advances Jake may have made were purely a creation of your psyche. In fact, I’m just going to pretend the whole scenerio was whimsy.

She's no threat. Situation downgraded from 'heightened' to 'mildly perturbed'.

Whatever happened to Maroon 5? I miss those guys.

And I've just proved I deserve my position in the JW hierarchy. I was so busy reading this I forgot about eBay and got outbid in the last minute.

I agree with kaydee that it was a fantasy. Joy is obviously delusional and needs help. Who in their right mind would "end the conversation and walk away, cuz he would have kept talking" if this had been a real Jake encounter?

I'd comment more but I have to check email and see if Jake has replied yet.

Yes, I would have been charitable and stayed by his side all evening, just so he could talk.

I would have given in and screwed his brains out!

I would have let him give me money to screw his brains out.

JOY: I'm going back home,where I belong.
Jake: Please, please take me with you!
Joy: No, you're talking too much...i know what your packing heat and hungry eyes want from me!
jake: No!I only know that I love you.
Joy: That's your misfortune.
Jake: Oh, JOY! don't go, pleaseee
if you go, where shall I go, what shall I do?
Joy: Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!

Jake: "After all...tomorrow is another day!"...sobbing

So let me get this straight. Joy was backstage at a Maroon 5 concert and Jake Gyllenhaal just happened to be there and she just happened to have a long and interesting conversation in which there was much eye contact and she decided to handle the situation by LEAVING?! No, I can't say she's a real threat, but she might need to be institutionalized.

Maroon 5 played a show at my college once. I was on the front row, but no one thought to invite me backstage and I'm pretty sure Jake wasn't in the attendance.

Anonymous said...

I remember seeing a picture of Jake backstage at a Maroon 5 concert, wearing a backstage pass around his neck, in the IHJ Media section. Picture was probably taken around the time she mentions.

OMG I can't believe I'm talking like this, little 'ol sweet innocent me who doesn't know how to cook.

Neport Girl: i feel with you. i usually push the post button, then read what i wrote and can't believe that's me who said that. i wonder why: is it the magic of the net, the magic o JW or just too much jakeness clouding my reason?

i think the latter, which proves that if it was me so close to jake, he would probably get raped... or eaten alive... or kidnapped and cuffed to my bed to serve as my boy toy. or...

Anonymous said...

we launched into a conversation and not only did he keep perfect eye contact the entire time, I think he was interested in what I had to say

i like that it shows he's not to conceited and still thinks himself human (despite all the proofs to the contrary;). it's like he said on ellen's show, when she said smth about the girls on the audience having no chance with him, and he said who knows. it's so sweet that he doesn't feel better than "common" ppl. ok i'm rambling.

Anonymous said...

Faith, Hope and Charity, very clever -

All I can tell you is if I were in that situation, it would have been JAKE who walked away because it would have been ME who kept on talking!!!! LOL

is there anything you'd like to see at Jake Watch? Any changes? Any ideas?

BPB, a few days ago you asked about the ideas about the new layout of the site. could you perhaps replace the pic of jake at the top of the homepage (in that ugly gray shirt) with the pic in the shirt?

please? pretty please? i bet there are more of us here who would support the idea...

veeveevee said...

Oooh, oooh, I second that, BP! Put THE SHIRT up top. Although...there are some of us here who might get so distracted, it would take us a while to get to the actual posts. But then the comments wouldn't get overloaded and crash the system. Everyone wins!

I truly don't think this Joy person is a threat at all. I mean...she left...VOLUNTARILY! Don't tell me it wouldn't take a crow bar, six Marines and some heavy duty machinery to get the rest of us to leave his beautiful side!

Anonymous said...

This sounds like a clip from "Almost Famous!" And she sounds like a groupie. She walked away from "Jarhead" Jake???There is absolutely NO reasonable explanation. None. She sounds like a foolish woman ergo, not a threat. What? Did she think he would follow her? I bet the reason she walked away was bcz there were like sixteen other girls standing there and they all wanted to feel his abs! I love these so-called first person accounts that read as if the two of them were alone having this private conversation. Balderdash! Humbug! And no. I'm not jealous. Not a bit....bitch.

Becky Heineke said...

Simon, yeah, I've heard that theory. It would actually explain...everything. I'll be sure to test it next time Jake and I hang out.

Anonymous said...

6:08 here. I take it back. Peeing your pants IS the only reasonable explanation! LOL!! And a plausible one at that!

Anonymous said...

OMG! I just had a BRILLIANT idea, if I do say so myself.
Okay, well, first I have to deal with the latest Back Away From My Man. Joy seriously needs a reality check. She is clearly full of herself if she thinks that Jake was talking to her for any reason besides to be nice. Bitch.
Okay, back to my idea. I am still crushed because Donnie died. I feel like I cannot go on. And this is also how i felt when Jack died. So, basically, I think we should hold a funeral, or ceremony of sorts for all of Jake's dead characters. They touched us in ways real people could not have. And made my slightly unhealthy obsession with Jake thrive.

What do you guys think?

And, I must say, I agree with all psychotic/pissed her pants theories. Clearly, Jake acts as a sedate-type drug around females (See Jake Gyllenhaal:Lady Killer [Posted Friday, May 29 http://jakegyllenhaalwatch.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_jakegyllenhaalwatch_archive.html])

Oh, and I have a question for all you Donnie Darko fans. I've been thinking about this a lot and I'm dying to know:
What was Frank's motivation?
He never really says why he's making Donnie do all of this. It doesn't really seem to have anything good in it for him.
Is screwing over other people's lives good to him? Does he just want to experiment with all of that time-travel stuff?
Is he really trying to help Donnie?

And if anybody lives in Westchester, so the shipping costs won't be too high, I'm DYING to see the Director's Cut Edition, if you have it. Or, does anyone know where I can buy it cheap? It's not in my library or video rental place.

Anonymous said...

huh. i always thought frank was donnie's alter ego, lide mr hide for dr jekyll... like, he had schisophrenia after all, so i think there was no frank the rabbit, just donnie's dark side.

but then i didn't understand the film, so i'm pretty much guessing here.

Anonymous said...

Well, Frank was an actual person. In the begining of the movie, you see him drive by in his red car.
We find out that Maggie has a boyfriend named Frank. Frank runs over Gretchen, and kills her, and has a friend in a clown suit.
Come to think of it, though... I do wonder how he got into Donnie's medicine cabinet...

Is she like, a fucking NUN??
SERIOUSLY! If I was talking to him backstage, during his Jarhead Phase, I would have been ON HIM.

britpopbaby said...

Eek! Can we please not call people bitches? Remember this is all done in good humour, it's not serious!

Anonymous said...

@ sarah k:

but almost all of the movie happened in a sorta time warp, after donnie died. so the fact that frank killed the girl cannot be explained logically... i don't think any realistic explanation applies.

but for me it is just a figment of DD's imagination, his other self or whatever.

but the film is multi-layered and equivocal. one of it's most valuable caracteristics is that it can be interpreted differently by each of us.

Anonymous said...

Hmmm. Good point. The whole movie is very vague and mysterious. That's why I like it.

And, sorry Britpop. Instead, I'll say: I really dislike Jenna Malone. Not because she had great makeout scenes with Jake, but because she takes herself FAR too seriously.

I loved Donnie Darko too; I haven't seent it in awhile, so I should watch it again. My feeling is that although Donnie appeared to be ill to outsiders, Donnie really was contacted in the form of Frank the rabbit to save the world, or at least his little corner of it, from the impending time warp disaster. I found it interesting that in ancient times the mentally ill for thought of as seers who could fortell the future. There were just so many coincidences throught the movie (the book written by the old woman), and the fact that the period of time (a split second or days, hours and minutes)was completely forgotten bye the people after Donnis was killed. He was a "savior" type character, as someone else mentioned. It's a very intricate movie that is open to different interpretations. It's almost like it was saying there's so much we don't know, and what we think we know is an illusion (the hypocritical motivational speaker), don't be closed minded (like some of Donnie's teachers and the people in Donnie's town.)

I bought it after seeing how good Jake was in Brokeback, and I had heard raves about Donnie Darko too. He was great in it; you could see his talent. I like that he choosed different and thought-provoking roles. And the music was great, wasn't it? :-)

Anonymous said...

^^sorry, that should be "chooses" different roles.

Anonymous said...

I gotta say too that I've loved all of his love scenes, at least the one's I've seen - Donnie Darko, The Good Girl, Proof, and Brokeback. The man's a lovah! :-)

Anonymous said...

PG, did you find the Buffy link helpful? :o) (Donnie Darko doth remind me of BtVS)

Does anyone else think Jake associated 'Cellar Door' with 'Gyllenhaal' in the movie? lol

Anonymous said...

Kaydee, thanks for the link to Ellen's 400th show. I missed it when it aired both times. He was so sweet and fun. The audience was turned on by him and he was turned on by them. Great treat to finally see it.

As for "Joy the wanna-be toy." Get real honey. Nope, just can't believe it. Sorry.

Anonymous said...

> He was so sweet and fun.

I loved watching him crack up at the end... now the Q is, who did Jake feel more unsettled by - Ellen or Oprah?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Okay, wow. I agree with you ALL. I'd really like to hear Richard Kelly's view on religion, because there were so many references to God and christ, and my friend and i were trying to figure it out. In the end, when donnie sacrifices himself for the people he loves, we figured that maybe he was supposed to symbolize Christ. (Has anyone seen Cool Hand Luke??) I love all his movies, jake is definetely VERY talented. At first I was watching his movies cuz hes HOTT, but I've started watching them because he chooses amazing roles to play.

And, he's still hot. hahaha.

Yeah, I REALLLLYYY want to see the Directors Cut.

And there was AMAZING music, I bought three of the songs. I really like Mad World, The Killing Moon, the music at the very beginning, and when he's having that flashback. It's all so creepy and indie, PERFECT for the movie.

I would LOVE you to send me links, to the site, and the myspace would be Great!!

You can post it, or heres my email:

Thanks a lot, you guys!

Anonymous said...

Oh, and wait, I have one more question, if anyone would care to answer it.
Why did Frank want Donnie to burn the Fear/Love guy's house?

Anonymous said...

And, OMG, I LOVED that show!!! (Ellen's)

...If only she managed to persuade him to take his shirt off! *sigh*

But, he was SO funny, and slightly uncomforatble. It was sooo cute!

I loved the end, too!

Anonymous said...

OK, in case anybody was wondering, those two other songs I was talking about earlier are called Carpathian Ridge and Liquid Spear Waltz.

Anonymous said...

I think because he was a hypocrite, and he was not a good man (I think it was uncovered that he had child pornography or something like that in his house?) Not that burnin' down the house is the answer, but I think it was to metaphorically expose him for the phoney he was.

What I also loved about DD was that it was so dreamlike - the choices of music and the slo-mo photography in the opening (Never Tear Us Apart) and ending (Gary Jules' Mad World) scenes made me feel like an outsider looking in to someone's dream. I have only seen the director's cut. I am a huge believer in music setting the mood for a film.

I thought DD had a lot of religious overtones - the fire destroying the Fear/Love guy's house, fire being a metaphor for God's might in Christianity and a destructive/regenerative force in other religions, and the mentally ill in ancient times were thought of as prophets and apocalyptic seers, divinely inspired, possibly traveling to this world from another time. I guess you could say I loved this movie. :-)

I saw the SNL January 13th posting on IMDB, too!!!! After i got all excited and happy, I wondered is this really true!!! SQUEEEEEEEE!!!
I'm thinking of a skit that includes characters from his films, like Jarhead, Frank the Rabbit and someone being Ennis.
They could all be stranded in the NEw York Public Library waiting for Dennis Quaid.

Dear God, I just had a heart-attack of happiness! Jake is hosting SNL on January 13th...I have been waiting years for this to happen, I'm not even kidding, I made the strangest noise when I read it and called pretty much everyone I know...yeah I'm a dork, but I was excited.

Dayum!!!! Delighted to know Jake will be doing SNL!!!!! Finally!!!! I wish I wuz in NYC on January 13th. I'd be camped out at the stage door. Can we deploy agents, BPB? Have them stationed at all the entrances and exits....just to make sure Jake is OK? Bet there's some cool ppl in the audience, too. Do they tape it earlier, like the late night talk shows? Letterman usually tapes at 6 PM, I think, but I could be wrong. This is SO cool!

BTW: It's really true, 7:14. They announced it on the show tonight.

Anonymous said...

Wonder if he'll do a cycling skit??? Wonder if he'd be willing to wear The Shirt? I hope he gets a hair cut now, so by then it will grow out. And I want him to be semi-scruffy. And I want them to do a skit where he doesn't wear a shirt...but he has The Shirt on
when he first comes out...
He is SO totally hot, I bet the theatre will have the fire marshal on standby!LOL!!! OK. I'll calm down. (Could you imagine Jake in a play on Broadway every single night, except Mondays, when the theatre is dark???)

We haven't seen him in any new movies since Brokeback or that many interviews either since award season ended at the beginning of the year. CAN'T WAIT!!!

I am delighted to hear that Jake will host SNL on the 13th of Jan.
Since my birthday will be Jan 25th. I will consider it an early present. Compensation for turning 62. Unfortunately, I still FEEL 22. My daughter recently turned 30 so I can no longer pass for 42. When I put up a picture of Jake in THE shirt my 82 year old mother told me to "Act your age."

What to do??? What to do???

I ordered a copy of DD Directors Cut. Maybe Frank can give me the answer.

mpom, I think you should simply forget about trying to act your age - if you have reached this age and still have to ponder this question (no matter what your mom says) the situation is pretty hopeless and you should simply forget about it and ENJOY..!!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, that would make sense (In response to anon's response to my question) I guess I'm just not willing to accept that Frank would do anything good. At first, I was really pissed at him for like torturing Donnie (not physically, mentally/emotionally) and then DD ended up dead, but I just realized that w/o Frank, he would still be dead, only 28 days sooner.

Oh, Mpom, I'm 14, and my friends keep telling me to act MY age. I can't believe Jake's turning 26 in just 2 days! Then he'll be 12 years older than me! Yikes! My friends say it's just a little gross. But I have faith. Jake will wait for me. :)

AND OMGOMG!!! I <3 SNL!! Especially with Will Ferrel-SO FUNNY!
THIS IS SOOOO EXCITING!! I wonder if I can get tickets to be in the audience.... OMG! That would be AMAZING!! JAKE!!! I can't believe they are putting Jake and SNL together! There is a God! I am going to personally go up to the SNL producer/Jake's agent, and give em a big ol hug! YAY!!!

OT but not: There is a very interesting article in today's Los Angeles Times. It is about a lawsuit x17 (a "photo service agency" paps,) who is suing PRezhilton.com for $7.5million bcz he uses their photos without credting them. His is one of the better known gossip blogs out here. What is interesting is not necessarily the lawsuit itself, but the article offers insight into how the whole paprazzi thing works and the$$ they make stalking celebs and their relationship to the gossip rags like US Weekly, People and the blogosphere. I think the celebrities who are featured in all these outlets ought to sue to get a piece of their profits.

SNL?!?!?!?!?! THIS IS LIKE THE GREATEST NEWS EVER!!!!!! It's impossible to get tickets, though. Trust me, I've tried. They hand them out on a lottery system; you submit your name before the season starts and then they give out the tickets randomly and you don't get to choose the date. This makes agent placement a little difficult, but maybe luck will be on our side. I've been waiting for this for AGES!

P.S. Just to remind you guys, we do have a forum where you can discuss movies, etc, in depth. Not that the comments aren't welcome here, but Blogger gets bogged down when there are this many responses to a post, which is why we created the forum to begin with (since most of the comments on this thread seem to be off-topic ;)).

They hand them out on a lottery system; you submit your name before the season starts and then they give out the tickets randomly and you don't get to choose the date.

It is possible to get "stand-by" tickets just in case they need someone to fill seats during the show. If it works like other shows I've worked on they send in the VIPs (friends of the players, host and people involved with the show) first, then people with actual tickets and then stand-bys.

It's changed over the years but currently you can get Stand-by tickets at 7am on the 49th St. side of 30 Rockefeller Plaza on the morning of the taping for either the 8 PM dress rehearsal or the 11:30 PM live taping.

You can only get one ticket and they are first come, first served! You may not get in anyway and you must be 16 years or older. Watch what you wear because that can play a role in where you are seated.

Finally, I don't know if this show uses "audience recruiters" since it's not a late night talk show like Conan or Letterman. If I find out I'll let you know where you can find one on the streets of Manhattan.

I don't mind you going off-topic but please try to refrain posting things like, 'I'm going to bed now'.

I'm going to go back to April and start making images smaller and cleaning up the comments so we have more space for current topics but just please remember it's not a chat room.

The Forum was started specifically so people can carry on conversations they start here.

Ah, Brokeback Mountain...I saw 1/2 an hour of it @ a friend's house, and then about an hour of it in segments via Google Video/YouTube/Fan sites.

You guys made me laugh, seriously. Thank you!!! =) I can always use a laugh.

I'll try my best to recap.

I was backstage at a Maroon5 concert in LA. I get in backstage cuz I'm really good at it. It's all about walking up to security and pretending that you're supposed to be there.

So anyway, I noticed the side of Jake's face. He was wearing a dark gray/greenish shirt, dark pants and a hat that he was wearing real low, covering most of his face.

Two non-celebs were talking to him, then they finished their conversation and that's when I said, "Hey Jake, what's up?"

Anonymous said...

Jake said, "Hey!"

Me: "I just love all of your work! I think you're so talented.

Jake: Oh, thank you. Thank you so much! (huge smile)

Me: So are you a big fan of these guys?

Jake: Well, actually, I went to school with these guys.

(Then we kept talking about Maroon 5 and his movies. He told me about the movie that he was working on right at that time. Actually, he told me that he was working on a new film - it was actually Brokeback Mountain).

He may have said, 'Heath Ledger', but I can't remember. He did begin working on Brokeback like the following week of our encounter. I know, wtf?!

Anonymous said...

I was surprised at how down to earth he was. Yes, I was nervous, but I fake confidence fairly well.

I noticed his bulging muscles underneath his shirt when he was talking to the other people first. He's beautiful. And he's so intense.

He seriously gives you eye contact and he doesn't break his eye contact the entire conversation, no exaggeration. He's that considerate.

Anonymous said...

Whoa. I would be kinda scared to be jake...you just walked up to him and said "hey jake"??
He doesn't know you does he?
I mean...not that like, YOU'RE scary...just having all these random people walking up to him...although, he should be used to it by now, i guess.
I'm gonna do far more than just walk up to him...haha. ;)

Thanks for the sympathy, Dani!:]

Amazing news, you guys!

There was absolutely no one behind me or Jake at the time that I was talking to him. He was to the side of the room, wearing a cap with his back facing about 80% of the crowd.

I was completely into him and I ended the conversation because he seriously wanted to keep talking. I pretty much stopped him.

I rather end the conversation versus having him give me a bored, annoyed look. I figured, what's worse?

He's nice enuf to keep talking and it wouldn't be cool if I sucked up all his time.

Plus, I wanted a pic w/ him so badly but I didn't ask. I think he really enjoyed the fact that I kept it cool and didn't act possessed in front of him - like I wanted to. Or grab on those arms of his - like I really wanted to.

I've met my fair share of celebs and they love feeling normal and when people approach them and treat them as such.

Funny thing is, I talked to Adam Levine (Maroon 5 singer) shortly after and he was an asshole who barely looked at me when I talked to him!

Jake was so down to earth and Adam was cocky and who's the bigger celeb? Jake is genuinely sweet.

* hope I answered your questions. AND I blogged a few of your comments on my blog today too. Luv ya.

At first I thought you seemed a bit cocky and full of yourself with the whole "I had to walk away" thing. But now, looking at your blog, I realize that you have a great sense of humor, and can laugh at yourself, which I love. I love how you posted our comments, even some of the meaner ones (including mine!) ((again, sorry about the unneccisary (((sp?))) meanness)) I hate it when people take themselves too seriously. It just goes to show you that first impressions suck. Like, for example, when I first saw Jake in October Sky, I thought he was really cute. Then, after seeing him out and about and in Donnie Darko, The Day After Tomorrow, Proof, and parts of Jarhead and Brokeback Mountain, I realized he is the hottest, funniest, hottest, most amazingly talented person I have EVER seen.

Sarah K you're too kind!!! =)

Not only does my enthusiasm/ confidence tend to come across as cocky, but I'm a celeb blogger trust me, I've heard some insults.

That's why I don't allow comments anymore, j/k. I didn't have time to moderate comments.

Fans visit gossip blogs and feel the need to defend the celeb and insult the blogger, um, wtf?! Just get off the site - idiots. :-p

This site cracks me up tho. Your comment, Sarah was one of my favorites, of course I had to post it! =)

* Do you live in LA? That's a good place to meet celebs

Sadly, I live in a tiny suburb called Hastings. It's in Westchester. If any of you live on the East Coast, you know ALL about Westchester. So, no, I get no action. But I live about 1/2 an hour away from NYC, if that helps.
It sucks, because I used to have relatives that lived in LA, so we used to go visit them all the time, but they decided to move out to the middle of nowhere in Virginia. :(

Hmmm....well, Donnie Darko took place in a small suburb like my own...perhaps something interesting WILL happen...

"He's beautiful. And he's so intense."

Joy, he sounds just as wonderful as we all imagine he would be. You are so lucky to have met him! I'd have been terrified probably. LOL

OK, Joy, so I decided to read everything you've ever put in your blog about Jake. Obviously, I'm going to need to share my opinion.
Ok, first, they didn't date for an entire 3 years. Only a little more than 2...(thank God!)
This:I don't know why everyone is calling this bitch a whore and saying she should have kept shit sacred? If I banged Jake, I would hold a live press conference.
is SOO funny! But, I do think that she should not have bragged so much. Because, really, if the entire bi/straight female and bi/gay male population didn't already hate her enough... And i dont think she had jake's permission to say that...
Also: OBVIOUSLY Maggie is not as gorgeous as Jake, but then again, NO ONE is. I think she is beautiful. I'm really jealous. She has a lovely Heart-Shaped face and Gyllenhaal Eyes. So...if you mess with Maggie, then you mess with me, sista!

Everything that Frank leads Donnie to do is to create the series of events that must occur so that he will make the right decision at the end.

He must flood the school so that school is canceled and he talks to Gretchen, and subsequently falls in love with her. He must burn down the house so that the kiddie porn will be discovered, the self-help guru be arrested, and Kitty Farmer stay behind to support him--Rose must go in her place, so that Elizabeth and Donnie will have the house party, etc.

Donnie must choose to go back in time and die in order to save those he loves, which means realizing his greatest fear--to die alone. It's a test of his soul.
