Ah, the old five-and-dime - I spent many a day (and many a five and dime) in my local one when I was a wee one (prehistoric times to y'all, I'm sure).

I'm gonna have to order me a T-shirt...need something new to sleep with, um, in.

*sigh* I remember when American money was worth more than the paper it was printed on.

Woot! Now maybe I'm stupid but I can't remember what will be on these shirts. Will Jake's face be plastered across my, um, bosom area? Because that could give me some nasty, nasty thoughts. (Nasty=happy)

me too! I remember I've seen it, but i forgot what the print is like... guess i can search the blog.

I'm sounding archaic, but do you remember Woolworth's?
Not that you would be old enough or anything like that?....

Five & Dime- comes from the time you could buy things in the store for a nickle or a dime...a cheap store.

I've got to do the 'design' section yet.

For not getting my ass sued reasons I can't use images of Jake. It's basically 'Jake Watch' with a cool eye print.

We still have Woolworths in the UK!

Simon Agent 002 said...

I think they closed the last one around 20 yrs ago here.
Britain has it all now I'm immigrating!

I remember Woolworths! My Nana would take me there for shopping and lunch. Awww sepia colored memories of a time when I was young. *le sigh*

Simon Agent 002 said...

^^ Yeah I remember the luncheonette...I was a very small child mind you...practically pre-natal
Oh the had such a cool toy car display...
a lighted box with tracks in it full of those British minature cars
"Corgi" brand I think? it was like a small city.

britpopbaby said...

Aww, thanks Frank! The last time someone dedicated a song to me I was in the toliets of the club and missed it!

I'm thinking this Woolworths may not be the same. They sell music, DVDs, toys, household stuff, garden stuff...everything basically but no cafes.

Simon Agent 002 said...

Shame on anyone not dedicating songs to you!
Brit,
Were ,(I'm) going back to the late 60's early 70's no DVD's...just long rows of vinyl records. no cheap imported junk from China ...it was a different time and place...muzac was pumped into the store...
Bert Bacharach
was very popular at the time...this was when I was dragged along on shopping trips...Oh I was so impatent with my mom when she was in the woman's dept!..."I don't wanna look at clothes." I was a pain in the ass.

It was the 80s for me! I was a little nuisance too. Always wanted something from the store! Ahhh the 80s the "Me" decade. I wore acid washed denim, rocked a jheri curl, and was mesmerized by the movie "Less Than Zero" It's a wonder I didn't come out a total coke whore.

Simon Agent 002 said...

^^ LOL I wasn't in Woolworth's at that point...doesn't sound like the store I knew! lol

Girl,

I have made a store application in college. I could give you the code. People could fill out the information (size, color, style) and press send and then an email gets sent to you automatically. You also might want to set up a paypal account and have a link on there for purchase.

Let me know if you need any help.

Yes I do indeed remember Woolworth's - spent many a weekend of my young teen years hangin' out at the Woolworth's lunch counter. And when I was grade-school age, Ben Franklin's was my favorite five-n'-dime - they even had penny candy...

I LOVED going to the 5 and 10 when I was a kid - that would be around 1950. It was the only place you could find inexpensive stuff that kids love - little toys, tablets, paint sets, paperdolls, music books, etc. How I miss it!

(But I did find an independent 5 and 10 still in business in Parksley, Virginia. Same layout, but prices are a bit higher now. And no paperdolls!)

I want a T-shirt with Prophecy Girl's "I Want You!" design!

britpopbaby said...

Thanks Sarah,

That's the kind of thing I was after. I'll give you an email.

britpopbaby said...

Apart from the email hassle is the site okay to follow?

I do this thing where in my head it makes perfect but then I try to make other people follow it and it makes no sense.

And I was fascinated by the orange Crush soda machine...with the soda bubbling in the tank!...that must have been the hook into orange soda?

Funny thing a Dept store in Manchester CT on Main St. closed not too long ago. The owner was like 80-90 yrs old. It was like going back in time to 1953....nothing inside was modernized...
You could still find odd things no longer made or used.
Dust on the packages of things that were slow sellers I swear you could find some packaged things made in the 60's new unsold!... "Marlows"
God rest that man's his soul!

Is it possible to make a payment without using Paypal? I don't have any Paypal account, and I don't know how to get one. According to your merch site, I could pay via Visa card instead?

Anonymous said...

Kendra! You can pay via visa card at paypal without having an account!

Kendra said...

Thanks, anon! Then, I'll check it again, trying to make up my mind about the shirt color I think it will fit me better.

Agreed, anon 1:26. BPB is a total star!! I foresee a rush of orders ... just trying to decide between original and baby doll ...

And btw *puts tongue firmly in cheek* isn't it nice to have the place back to ourselves again? :-)

Simon Agent 002 said...

^^Yes she is...and I guess we'll just form a line...
I can only guess who's at the front of it tho? hmm?

Woolies used to always have a restaurant many moons ago.Up north in Oldham they still do.

Simon Agent 002 said...

Well here in the States some locations did and others didn't.
One of those things you miss once you've lost it.
I think tho don't hold me to it the last one here closed in the mid 80's

SquallCloud said...

Hmm here's the thing. No one in my real life knows my Jakey obsession but my sister and I just don't want to hip anyone to my jive. Conundrum conundrum.

The Bearded Lady said...

^^Well this is a easy problem to deal with...just dispense with your "real life".

Simon Agent 002 said...

Well it's late night everyone. I have to dig into a book a friend recommended...

Take Care.

With ya there, Squall! I share JW snippets with my teenage daughter, who 'gets' it like I do, and I pimp the JW blog / community to those who I think could connect with it but that't it. And I'm admitting to a very select few that I'm getting back into writing by doing some fanfic writing, but NO ONE will be hearing anytime soon that its slashfic, let alone RPS...

DON'T PAY YET!!!!

I need to make a log of everything so I know where I'm up too! I might go old school and make little cards and put them in a box!

For anyone concerned about sharing the Jake Watch goodness and revealing their obsession, I suggest you buy one anyone and wear it to bed or to clean the house in.

JoyceDavenport said...

Ran out of time to order yesterday- had to get off the computer . Will try again Monday.

On the 'keeping our little obsession to ourselves' plan to wear mine to bed...

dani said...

I'm still not quiet ready to go completely public with this Jake mania that has consummed me, but I did buy the biggest one so I can wear it when I am home relaxing and around select visitors.
