THIS WEEK IN OTHER GYLLENHAALS...

Our dear friend and future sister-in-law Maggie graced the pages of LIFE magazine this morning, which worked out nicely since this is the first time in recent memory I've looked at the paper before I went to work. Thank you, Fate, for helping me stay ahead of the game. I also hit every green light on the way to work, allowing me to convey a sense of responsibility to my superiors when I showed up early. Hey, remember when LIFE was a respected publication and not a cheesy insert with you weekend newspaper? Sorry. Off topic.

So Maggie, six films out this year?! And your working the pregnancy factor?! Way to set the work ethic standard. Why don't you tell your brother to get his lazy ass out of France and get to work? Jake, we love you and all, but your sister's totally got you beat when it comes to upcoming projects.

P.S. Just ONE MORE REASON to be jealous of people in France...apparently they get a special edition 2-disc version of Brokeback Mountain before anyone else. They get Jake and now this?! Fate, I thought you were working with me here! This is so not fair. (Thank you, webqueen259.)

P.P.S. Speaking of projects for Jake, we're getting reports from IHJ of a possible new movie role...playing Lance Armstrong. This would actually explain quite a lot. Everything, in fact (except maybe Matthew McConnaughey, but really, there's no explaining him). It's possible we're talking about this project, in which case, has Matt Damon backed down from the lead role? Of course, any actor in his right mind would back down if the Gyllenhaal stepped up to the plate...more news as it develops... Also, we have the unnerving suggestion that Lance and Jake were, ah, "accompanied" by two lady friends after their night of raucous good fun. I think our Jake is going to have a little explaining to do when he gets home.

P.P.P.S. REALLY want to give yourself a treat? Watch the very end of this interview. (I would suggest fast-forwarding for those of you who are overdosing on Lance.) Tell me THAT doesn't do your soul a little good. :)

Ooooh lucky French. What's in it, does anyone know? I can't see it on the Amazon link but then again I don't speak French.

Maggie, always a class act. Love that girl.

Oh and is Squall around? Squall, I heard Summertime in the car at lunchtime and thought of you.

Anonymous said...

Aww, love Maggie!!

Btw, some interesting Jake news on IHJ. Seems that there is an article in a Danish magazine about Jake and Lance in France and that Jake may play Lance in a movie. Matt Damon was originally playing him but Jake is now the more suitable choice. May explain some of the Jake/Lance stuff lately? I do believe they are friends but it also would make sense if this is also for a role as Lance in a film? Info here.

Oh, can someone who speaks French tell us what is in the double BBM DVD. Damn, wish we had that in the States. Grrr.

Becky Heineke said...

Thanks anon 7.28, but now I'm paralyzed with the knowledge they left with two girls. I knew those two were up to no good!

And does anyone know what these 6 films are? Her latest finished films, according to IMDB, are:

Stranger Than Fiction (2006); World Trade Center (2006); Monster House (2006); Paris, je t'aime (2006); Sherrybaby (2006); Trust the Man (2005)

Er ignore those emails I sent you PG haha, they're about that stuff anon 7:28am posted

I was worried, too Prohpecy Girl, but then I realized that maybe the girls wanted to go bikeriding. I hear that that's what they do at 3 A.M. in the Alps. The French are odd, no?

mrs_dalloway said...

Ok.I will panic anytime soon, if the dude remains in France.Ok, I understand, a little night, but do NOT make it two or three or more.If you want to mess around, do it in a country that has active Jake Watch Agents!!

*drinks a little cold water*

Back on topic, I think that Maggie is one of the most discreet actress I have ever seen! Very few interviews, very classy, and never too much information. Just the right words to make her be appreciated. And..six movies? Where is the promotion for all that? Besides World Trade Center, which caused several fires among the US..

Anonymous said...

I will file the Jake playing Lance in a movie under: Jake and the Altman movie, Jake and the Indy movie, Jake and The Green Hornet, etc. I love Jake but I can't see him playing Armstrong, Damon yes and even Matthew (There was a rumor a month ago that Lance approached Matthew about this).

Becky Heineke said...

Thanks, Amerika! I put up the IMDB link just now. We WILL get to the bottom of this! And moonbeams, I have no doubt that you are completely right and this was entirely about bike-riding because French people do that all the time in the middle of the night. Thank God for logic.

Anonymous said...

I wish Maggie good luck with her upcoming movies.
As for Jake, he is enjoying his free time right now, he doesn't seem to be interested in new projects...

Anonymous said...

heddaparsons, why wouldn't Jake be good to play Lance? He has more the tall, long body type like Lance(Matthew has the big, bulky body type), and more importantly, he is actually a serious rider. Of course this is rumor, like most things. However, Altman really wants Jake for "Hands On A Hard Body." So, that project seems the most likely next step. I just would like to see Jake sign on to some new things soon.

Anonymous said...

I adore Maggie! She has more class than ninety-nine percent of other actresses out there. :)
I don't want to start anything and if this kinda speculation isn't allowed than nevermind!! But...as far as the whole leaving a club with women in the middle of the night thing...I am of course jealous, but I totally don't see Jake as a one night stand kinda guy, IMHO. Do any of you? Do you think he'd meet some chick in a club somewhere, take her back to his hotel and sleep with her? (and again, not trying to start trouble by asking this)

Anonymous said...

gin, I agree with you! I don't think Jake's a one nite stand kind of guy. I mean he's rich, totally, incredibly gorgeous, very hot, a really good dancer..at least he was in Jarhead(!)... single and twenty-five years old. And he's probably gonna stay for more than one nite...in France I mean. The other thing to consider is the altitude. The higher up you go, the air gets thinner. It affects your brain. Impairs your judgement.
Jake probably didn't even realize the two girls left with them.

Anonymous said...

Sorry for the double post. I can see Lance shopping around his story for a film, but Jake, IMVHO, is not a good choice. Seriously. I'd much rather see Jake play Daniel Pearl with Angelina. I know. But I think he'd kick ass and be incredible...and he'd get his Oscar. Does anyone know whether it's been cast...or who is being considered? I think it's something Jake would probably love to do.

Anonymous said...

How can we know, he's not an one night stand guy? My impression (but i could be wrong) is that he has fun with a lot of gal's.

Anonymous said...

lol moonbeams...yeah. altitude. :) i'm probably projecting. i do that. my brain doesn't like to think of jake with other women! :)

Anonymous said...

i don't claim to know anything, anon 8:30, i guess at things and fill things in with my imagination.
sorry for multiple posts...i'm out anyway!

Anonymous said...

anon 8:30 here. Hey i don't know him, maybe i'm completely wrong anyway. :)

Anonymous said...

I totally understand, gin. I just adore him!But since I probably have shoes older than Jake, (and no, I don't collect vintage shoes!), and there's not a snowball's chance in hell he'd ever lay a hand on me, except to help me cross the street, I just want to make sure he's with a really good person...and so far, there hasn't been anyone I care for...well...maybe Natalie...but I'm not convinced...personally, I think it should be someone who's proven their devotion...like someone from here!

fg said...

pg, you are so right, there really is no explaining Matthew McConnaughey!!!

Anonymous said...

If you look in the IHJ gallery in 2005 there are a few pictures of him leaving clubs with different girls. Plus there was the hook up with Diane Kruger at the BAFTA party. Jakes clever he keeps it quiet.

Becky Heineke said...

^^^ Did that really happen? Is he that hard-wired towards blondes? Interesting...

Much as I love the Gyllys, Maggie especially, does anyone else think that the amount of paparazzi interest in Maggie might also have something to do with the lovely Jakey?

Well according to this article ( http://www.940news.com/nouvelles.php?cat=20&id=72031 ) Jake won't be leaving France any time soon. Also the rumours about Jake playing Lance in this new movie are probably true (if this article is correct)

They [Lance and Jake] plan to go "to Armstrong's seaside villa in Nice, where Gyllenhaal says they will "hang out by the ocean."

Do we have any agents living at Nice at least?!?!

By the way, I wonder how britpopbaby is going to take all this when she comes back...

"We became friends just recently, a couple of months ago," Gyllenhaal told The Associated Press. "He's a pretty straightforward guy. He called me the other day and said like, 'You want to go riding?"'

Keeping up with Armstrong in the French Alps proved successful at first - until the Texan started pedalling faster.

"When we first started riding it was pure adrenalin that kept me going," Gyllenhaal said. "Then, up the hill, across the way, you could see him like a plane in the sky, he was moving so fast."

Gyllenhaal, who took up cycling seriously three months ago as training for a new film, is pretty happy so far with the coaching he's getting.

So they only met a three months ago. I guess he's learning a lot about cycling from Lance. He's definately starting to look much more like a cyclist physcially. I suppose he's basing the character partially on Lance and learning as much as he can and it also seems that he wasn't the only celeb to travel with Lance. (I just don't give a hoot about Prince Albert of Monaco and Robin Williams.)

Now I need to know what film they're referring to. I must have input! Need input Stephanie! Need ... input!

Anonymous said...

I can't see the video. :( :(

Is it the same one from IHeartJake??

I don't see why people are getting upset that Jake is on vacation with Lance. Yes, I hope to somehow get him to Lake Como and the Cloonster, but still it does seem like he is also training for a movie. What movie I have no idea and I wish we knew, lol.

Anonymous said...

This level of worry and disapointment over Jake spending time with Lance is a little over the top, now if he was spending lots of time with Paris Hilton or Tom Cruise then I would understand.

Anonymous said...

So getting a driving lesson from Paul Newman, having a holiday home on Martha's Vineyard, having cooking lesson from Mario Batali, isn't Hollywood? Jake has always been Hollywood.

PG, I really need to commend you on the great job you are doing on this site. Well done!
Ok, with regards to the french DVD, its pretty much the same as was released everywhere else, except the special features are on the 2nd disc.
My very limited french basically read the same 4 features plus an interview with ang lee by the bbc, which you can find on you tube(i think the asian version has the one where he was interviewed in HK, also on youtube)

I've just been avoiding as of late (until today - and now I am going to avoid it again) all of this coverage because, for ME, a big part of the Jake appeal is that he seems so normal and well-adjusted -look, I don't know, I guess this
participation in what I like to call "Hollywood gluttony"

Believe half of everything you hear and nothing that you see -- then you'll at least get half the truth.

I have that tacked on my wall in my office and I apply it to anything I see or read in the media.

However, while I won't give my personal opinion here, that seems to be the overriding opinion among my friends these days. So you're not that only one coming to that conclusion.

Yup,Katie! it is news, alright! This explains everything that has been happening for more than a week now. And I love it that this man managed to have so much fun while getting ready for work. It's an artist's lifestyle, you know..no back-office work, no running errands for few years in a row. Just good training for each role..
Ahhh....

This is turning into the longest post in the history of posts! If I had the ability to put more than 5 posts on a page, I would list each one separately (brits didn't give me full executive powers), but as is, I'm trying to save room for people don't come here as obsessively as I do...so they don't show up and think, "What the hell are all these new posts??" Just thought I should explain that...

Becky Heineke said...

Yeah, I've seen An Inconvenient Truth 3 times and every time they should the World Trade Center trailer and I choke up. Every freaking time. I heard a review on the radio that said it was amazing and that it was going to be a HUGE movie. It'll make you proud to be an American (I say to a group that is only a small percentage American...).

Anonymous said...

WTC is getting great early reviews. As a NYer I too will have difficulty seeing the film. United 93 was like reliving that day all over again and it as gutwrenching. I am going to try and handle WTC since it seems to be an excellent movie.

As for Jake, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I personally don't see the problem. It isn't different when Maggie is seen with other celebs or Heath or Michelle with Ellen or at a Radiohead concert, etc. That is the nature of their business. I don't fault them or think less of them unless they personally do something I dislike like being drunk or high all the time or being a waste like Paris Hilton. Jake is human and has faults like all of us, but he has grown up with famous people. I don't think this will change him for the worse. Especially if part of this is training for a movie.

"I just learn from Lance every day, the tips I get," he said. "I have never pushed myself so hard as I do with him."

The pair also found time to share a mutual passion - drinking beer.

"That's been the primary training," Gyllenhall joked. "

Which kind of beer does our Jakey drink? I like Xibeca, Bud and Guinness.

So who's gonna cast the first stone?

I am thrilled he is enjoying his success and his life. Bravo Jake!

I agree. Gyllenhaals never been "a normal family". He grew up in Hollywood, attended privates schools, not to mention he has aristocratic blood in his veins from his father side. He's "blue blood" :-)

The difference is that Jake has never had an attitude about it. He has never acted better than someone else. Even though he is with Lance, etc. in the interview he seemed so grateful to be there. He doesn't seem to be jaded and that is a great thing, imo. He seems as down to earth as you can get in those situations. Sure, he isn't perfect, who is, but he does seem to appreciate what he has and who he is. For someone raised in Hollywood, he sure ain't Nicole Richie or Paris Hilton.

Anonymous said...

It was a reaction to the inference in the post that it's something to be proud of.. something that makes one better then the next person when.. well.. it doesn't. :^)

One of the many things about Jakey that I love is how normal and real he seems. Very grounded. He wears his celebrity lightly. He seems not to invest things with pretensions of importance where they do not exist. And he seems in touch with the everyday stuff. I like how laid back he appears in the video with Lance. No self-importance. My profound thanks to Naomi and Stephen! What a beauty!

I could give a living crap about seeing a movie that has STRAIGHT to video labeled all over it - Jake as Lance? Ugh. Even with Jak e- I'm not watching this piece of crap. The ESPYs have RUINed Armstrong with me - nevermind the whole wife then crowe...its just BAD bad bad bad. No wonder Damon stepped down..Damon actually would of been better - he looks closer to Armstrong - Jake looks nothing AT ALL like the guy - WTF? this is gonna be sad. From a big Jake fan - JAKE DON'T DO IT!!
