JAKE WATCH'S SECOND OFFICAL STALKING MISSION - SUCCESS!

This is Karin's experience of seeing Jake on the set of Zodiac or whatever it is they're calling it. I've quickly put it together from many extracts so it might sound a little odd in parts but it's very interesting from a fan point of view. It's long so read it all by clicking on the Continue Reading link below.

I saw Jake. At one point I was about 5 ft. away from him. I saw Boo Radley too, coming out of Jake’s trailer as Jake was going into it. I was in shock. I didn't even see his eyes, it was like a blur. His trailer wasn't at film site, it was in a park. Jake was walking. I stopped my car or maybe my car was stopped. I swear to you, I can't remember- I went into time warp. Imagine having Jake walking towards where you are. It is like your mind leaves your body. That is when I saw him walk up the steps to his trailer and when he opened door Boo ran out. Boo is mid sized, compact, pretty copper coloured. I didn't see his eyes either- I was in shock. Boo was going to walk down the stairs but then Jake said something to him and he went back inside. He had no leash on. I think I saw Atticus' head at the door too. I think they were both inside Jake’s trailer. Nice to be able to take doggies to work. This was like at 6:30 am. so no one was walking with him or anything...just Jake and his dogs.

Then I watched him film the same scene over and over and I could never quite make out colour of his eyes. I was in the owner’s office of the store they were filming in which was upstairs and all the action was downstairs and we looked through a window at the filming. I could see Fincher, the extras and the crew and of course Jake. He was laughing with the crew, smiling, real affable, fanning himself by lifting his shirt up and down (no flesh) in between takes a couple of times. It was so hot and he had to wear jeans, a white t shirt, a denim shirt and a thing like a blue parka. He looked like he was really easy to direct. He didn't look real tall or real buff just like a normal man. He looked like he was wearing same jeans he always wears. His hair looks lighter in the front than it does the rest - almost like subtle highlights. From the couple of words I heard his voice sounds the same. In the scene I saw, he had no lines!! Just walked into a store from his car, had an expression on his face and walked back out of the store.

One thing I did learn is that these people are just like us - human beings with a right to privacy. It really hit me today how they are just like you and me. Anyone running up to them or popping pictures or any of that is truly awful. These actors and actresses are just like carpenters, painters, plumbers - anyone really wanting just to do a good job and have a good life. Sometimes, we the people think that they our ours because we feel like we know them, you know what I mean? They deserve the right to live out their lives in private. I fully believe that now, I don't know why I did not think so before. He is just like any normal person, at least he is to me now. Sometimes fantasies are better left as fantasies, I believe that now - at least in my case. I hope Jake has the best career, is happy with whomever he chooses as friends, lovers, dogs, but as far as my obsession goes there is no need to have one anymore. I am 58 he is 25 and I am me and he is him as we all are. I learned a great lesson today. I wish I could have taken a picture but it was against the rules and the owner of the store had signed something that said there would be no pictures. I wish I could have seen his eyes without being in shock...but I couldn't tell you what colour blue they were if you tortured me. I am a pathetic witness. I wanted to almost take notes so I wouldn't forget anything. I hope he only has paps around him when he wants them to be. Or anyone else for that matter. I am glad I got to see this.
xxoo karin

I have to say that Karin’s sentiments have really struck a chord with me. I often think, “Why the hell do I write this blog? It’s six levels if bat shit crazy!” I have a good life - great friends, amazingly insane family, hopefully some job prospects - I don’t need anything from this so why do I spend about two hours everyday working on a blog about an actor I’m probably never even going to meet? Then I remember. I didn’t start this blog for Jake, I don’t write this blog for Jake and ninety percent of the work involved with it has absolutely nothing to do with Jake. I started this blog when I was going through a dry patch in my writing and it was at a crucial point when I really needed to produce my best work. My friend Anneka kept a journal and it always seemed to help her, she found it cathartic, so I thought I should do the same. For some reason, I think it had to do a lot with the brilliant Gilded Moose, I decided a blog would be an interesting ( and more importantly free) way for me to get over my block. But what to blog about? My daily life seemed the obvious option but Anneka used to record all our adventures and mishaps (in the most hilarious and heart-warming manner, I might add. It should be made into a book.), so I wanted to do something different. Then I saw Jarhead and my crush on one Jake Gyllenhaal was immediately ignited again from the days of Donnie Darko (even though I had trouble processing it was the same actor behind both characters). I thought I could try and write a humorous blog about Jake which would help me soldier on with completing my dissertation. You know, for a while, I almost considered making my blog about tea. Anyway, I’ve forgotten what my point was (I’m always doing that; how I used to write 12 page essays is beyond me) but I just want to say, this blog isn’t really about Jake Gyllenhaal, it’s about us. I’m reminded of that from the great conversations that go on in the forum and comments. This blog has enabled me to get to know fantasically witty, talented and intelligent people. So that’s why I blog - for me and you.

Did I scare you for a second then? Did you think I was going to say I was stopping? Gotcha.

Thank you,Britpop. I guess we're all for the same things here..joking about the Gyllenhaal and appreciating all the creative, interesting minds around here. You're really something. Cheers to you!

This is exactly why I never feel the need to meet celebrities I like :-) They are just people. What the hell would I have to say to a complete stranger who probably thinks I'm a freak for coming up to them in the first place :P?

I'm here everyday and I read everything you write. It's not because of Jake its beacuse of your writing and all the people at this blog. Even though I can't deny that I wouldn't have foud this blog if it wasn't for imdb and Jake :) xLove you guysx

And yes you got me worried for a while :)

Can I second that too? :-)

Before Jake Watch, I never checked out any blog dedicated to any actor/celebrity. Before I saw Jake in Brokeback Mountain, I never got obsessed about any actor. So both this blog and Jake must be doing something special (at least to me)

winterbird, the same here.Jake's the first, and so is Britpop's blog. Hey,I see a connection there.

I agree with everything you all say! About the humour, about the Gyllenhaals' specialness, about the bonding, and especialy about Brokeback Mountain.

They always say you need a first line and I challenge anyone to think of a better one than "I saw Jake."

mrs_dalloway said...

I kissed Jake.

mrs_dalloway said...

P.S.:that was the challenge, don't point your guns at me,pls. I live in fuckin Romania.lol.

Anonymous said...

That's not a better line for me. You think I want other people kissing Jake? lol.

Awwww Jake bless us everyone!

No seriously, yah your wit and the wit of other Gyllenhaalics or followers of The Sex is the reason the community is fun. It's about connecting with others and telling tales more than The Sex worship... eventhough there's plenty of that going on too. ;) I bet Jake would be proud to bring such snarky horny gals and guys together like this.

mrs_dalloway said...

no,you don't anneka, and that's why it would draw your attention more than a line which would say 'I saw Jake',won't it? :D:D

I must admit, I've always viewed Jake as just a normal, ordinary guy (as all celebrities are). It's just the media machine that likes to sell the idea of "extraordinary" and "perfection". To sell the dream... and make money.

Jake being "ordinary", in the sense of "not being affected", makes me like him even more. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop me from obsessing about him. It just makes it worse! *sigh*

This blog is so entertaining and I congratulate Britpopbaby for her superb efforts. The writing always bring a smile to my face. And I've no doubt it would raise a smile (and possibly even a shy, nervous chuckle) from The Man himself. May it continue... for all our sakes!

Yes, it's the media!! There the ones who keep teliing us The Trousersnake is sexy when he is NOT.

Bad media!

Don’t you dare stop Brits! It would be like Robbie in Home & Away turning off Grahams life support!

Hell yeah! You want an avator?

I'm all choked up. Beautiful Karin, beautiful britpop, and I agree with you both in that we came together on behalf of one person but what we got in the process is much more than a celebration of him. It's a celebration of us. :)

Dammit, I can't be that serious, blackhatnbeard we are desperate for new agents like you!! And by "we" I mean britpop, since sometimes I like to use the possessive tense when it's not really mine to use. And you've written them? I'm sorry but I demand more information, as in do you have a place I can send my marriage proposal because that would be awesome.

Nothing Really Matters said...

Yeah PG that is such a great story! If only Jake could come and pay his English fans a visit!

Bravo Karin, and bravo britpopbaby! You are both perfect fans!

And britpop, I'm patiently waiting for my official team member status. ;)

I so agree with every single one of you! Thanks Britpopbaby!! Keep up the great work!

I loved Karin's story and Britpopbaby's thoughts about it. It hit home since I, as a lot of other people here too, have asked myself similar questions. Why is it that I've become so completely addicted to this? And of course, it's because of all you great people here! And BPB's excellent writing! Obsessing over the gorgeousness that is Jake is just a kick-ass bonus. :-D

Love to you all! xo

This is what I've been trying to make my friends understand. (I can't keep anything a secret, let alone my obsession with BBM and Jake...)

It's not really about the latest gossip or the latest pics, it's about the people that you get to know and have a lot of fun with. I love this blog both because of Britpop's hilarious entries that make me LOL no matter how bad my mood is, and because of the community that has been created around the blog.

(BTW... Karin has said that she's back to worshipping The Sex now that the first shock of seeing him in real life has worn off! Phew... I thought we had lost her there for a while. ;D)

LOL, wtbgirl. Just make sure you have something to wipe the drool with and you'll be allright. ;)

Not to repeat everything that everyone has said, but I also agree with everything everyone has said. (That was all kinds of redundant wasn't it? My apologies.) On the extremely rare occasions in which I was in the vicinity of a celebrity, I always came to the same conclusion... I had absolutely nothing to say to that person. I don't talk to a lot of strangers. lol. So for me, the idea of running up to a celebrity I see is odd. I can't promise I won't look, and if it's Jake maybe freeze for a brief moment and drool, but that's about it. I figure I don't like getting harassed when I'm walking around, so why would anyone else? Also, everyone on here is awesome. Just thought I'd throw that in.

Why Jake? Well, I'm subject to bursts of enthusiasm over certain things that seem intriguing or excellent of their kind. I'm very prone to forming collections, or reading all of a certain writer's work, or having suddenly to get a lot of albums by a certain musician. In November 2005, I went to see this small, independent film that I hoped desperately would be good, because I'd been struck by the short story, years before. Jake Gyllenhaal was an incidental discovery. His face & his posture was so expressive. And also, he's just so beautiful, at certain moments, when he's properly posed and lit, that he makes my breath catch. He reminded me of someone I loved, years ago.

I'm here on the blog because I like hanging out with a lot of nice people who share my taste & aesthetic standards regarding good-looking guys. And the rest of my life is just so very serious, so work-driven, so goal-oriented, that it's a pleasure to drop by here & smile at something relatively frivolous.

If I were to see Jake Gyllenhaal walking past me on the streets of Manhattan, I'd try to control my breathing & my heart-rate, and I'd just keep walking. Staring openly would seem too rude. Unless I'd accidentally caught his eye -- and then I'd just nod, if he smiled or acknowledged my existence. If I felt very brave, I might say: "Thank you for making 'Brokeback Mountain,' I was so sorry that you guys did not win 'Best Picture'for that.'" But Jake may be rather bored by now with that sentiment, and may be more philsophical about that whole debacle than I am, so likely I'd just smile. The man's given me so much pleasure [artistically, visually, folks ;-)] that disrupting his life, even for a moment, would seem like an ungrateful act to me.

Wonderful post -

My feeling has always been once an actor steps out of character and down from the silver screen, he then goes back to being a real person entitled to privacy and peace. Aside from the fact that I wouldn't recognize somebody famous if I fell over them! :-)

nice anonymous, I would probably handle myself similarly. I've never been one to go up to celebs. I probably would stare if it was Jake but I'd try to do it on the sneak as not to make him feel too uncomfortable. If the moment felt right and he wasnt' occupied I'd probably mouth or say a quite "thank you" he'd know what it was for. There is nothing at all with acknowledging the beauty that another has brought into the world as long as you aren't interrupting them to do it, I say.

Recently on a trip to Los Angeles, my friend and I were driving around West Hollywood and Beverly Hills and we saw several places that Jake is known to frequent. We even got a cupcake at Sprinkles. I admit that I had my eye out for him, but we didn't see him. I know for sure that if I had, I would not have bothered him unless he made direct eye contact with me. And then all I would have done was smile and perhaps said hello if he seemed open to it. You never know what anyone has on their mind and the last thing I would want to do is intrude on Jake's personal time. Not that I think he would ever be rude, but it probably is best to keep him as a fantasy. But it would definitely be a thrill to see him in person. By the accounts of people that have seen him, he's even more amazing in real life. I hope that's true. I have come across celebrities in the past who didn't quite live up to expectations..Can't imagine that being the case with Jake.

Karin has opened our eyes sharing her experience in the set. Bpb, it's been almost a philosophical analysis this reading,I', so far from Jake that meeting him someday fell into "Miracle on 34th street" category.
