JAKE WATCH EXCLUSIVE: GYLLENHAAL/MCCONAUGHEY RELATIONSHIP UNVEILED!

Thanks to the crack detective work of our very our Jake Watch Special Ops Team, this blog has uncovered the (most likely) reason why Jake Gyllenhaal and Matthew McConaughey just can't seem to get enough of each other lately. Get your mind out the gutters, recruits! This is strictly business.

If you recall, director Robert Altman is getting his team together for the sadly non-pornographic movie Hands On A Hard Body, about people who stand with their hands on cars for millenia and then win them when everyone else dies of hunger or sun stroke. According to sources more reliable than this blog, Altman wants nothing more than for our own Jake to lend his talent to the project.

More interesting yet is that the 1997 documentary on which this film is to be based was executive produced by none other than the production company of Matthew McConnaughey. The 4th of July parties, the cycling, the chiding of paparrazi from the back seat of the same car...it's clear Matt is indeed wooing Jake...to be in this film! Altman is looking to start filming in September and there's nothing like working the peer pressure angle.

I'd like to thank my anonymous source who is far smarter than I for I never would have made this connection in a million years. And so far, it doesn't look like anyone else has made it either.

EDIT: Due to some confusion in the comments section, I would like to add that my "exclusive" headline was in reference to defining Matt and Jake's involvement in the same project, and not Jake's possible role in Hands On A Hard Body, which was reported here some time ago. Here are a few links which will hopefully clear up a few thing:

Hats off too "anonymous" for having such a sharp mind! Like you PG, I would never in a million years have made the connection.

Now that's what I call sharp detective work.
The question now is will Jake say yes? According to that article, he hasn't given a reply yet.

Jake really likes to cycle. A chance to cycle with Lance Armstrong happen to include Matt because Lance and Matt are good friends. I'm not sure there is much more to it then that. Have we seen Jake and Matt without Lance?

This is intriguing, but I must ask a deflating question: Isn't the moviemaking business small enough so that you could do this with nearly any Hollywood star, linking him or her up with any well-known project within just a degree or two? (Isn't that how the "six degrees of Kevin Bacon" game goes?)

Becky Heineke said...

Well, I think in this case a lot of people have been confused since Jake and Matt are well-known for being on opposite ends of the party scale and have been spending A LOT of time together lately, without any real friendship history we know about. Yeah, a lot of it has been with Lance, but he was also (along with Natalie) at the 4th of July shindig that Matt threw. Maybe it is nothing more than an innocent coincident...or maybe it's something more. Ah, only time will tell! :)

Becky Heineke said...

^^^ Yeah, I meant "coincidence." Oops. I don't know. It sounds interestingly plausible to me.

Anonymous said...

I'm beginning to think you may have a scoop here. Also, isn't the actual, real-life contest for the pickup tryck held in Texas, the former home of both Armstrong & McConnaughey?

Anonymous said...

This is actually old news. But i guess not everyone knows?

Anonymous said...

It's hardly a scoop. If you really followed Jake and his career you would of known about this months ago. Some Jake Watch!

I guess i have to go with anon 1.44 though and obviously not everyone knows but good Jake followers SHOULD.

Becky Heineke said...

^^^ Heh. Also, dudes. Please. Don't bother us.

2:14 Bearded Lady: Bwaaa!! Thanks for that, I needed it. Seriously, why do they continue to troll here?? Back on topic: I hope it's true, Jake needs to get back to work. All this wandering around LA and NY has got me a bit worried!

Anonymous said...

What is a "good" Jake follower, I wonder? Why would one person be a "good" Jake follower and another be a "bad" one? And who gets to decide which is which? If there are rules out there, someone, please tell me.

Anonymous said...

2:46 Don't bother, it's just some trolls from WFT pissed off that there are no more pictures to examine of you know what and that Jake Watch has more traffic.

I hope that he does sign up for this if true, along with that rumored Indiana Jones film.

Anonymous said...

I don't think WFT covered this, and the hostility here is uncalled for.

Anonymous said...

Whoa! Jake is rumored in another Altman project? Altman really must like Jake! This film sounds more interesting then the other one.

Ok,i'm confused?I clicked on the 'Just In' story at hollywood.com and it took me to a story from 2003?Is that what you meant or is it the wrong page?It does mention Jake and Matthew at the bottom but i'm still not sure if you mean this as it's old?Could you clarify before i go off searching.Ta.

Becky Heineke said...

No, I meant "just in" as in, we "just" uncovered another piece of the puzzle. I'll take that part off. Sorry if it was confusing. ;)

bearded lady which anon are you talking to as i was just asking a question so there was no need to be rude if you meant me?I was asking about the article thats all!

I want to say this to everyone.Just because not everbody has an I.D. it doesn't mean they are all trolls.I for one am not.I love Jake as much as anybody. It's hurtful to people feelings when they are genuine like i am.

Anonymous said...

Thanks prophecy girl for the clarification. It's all interesting stuff.

Bearded Lady I believe you were once a regular at WFT. What happened, not sophisticated enough to partake? Shame.

I love JW. I have been lurking and then posting for a while now. And I must admit, some of my posts have been wicked funny. You guys have even said so. But alas. Shy thing that I am, I have opted to post as anonymous. I think now is a good time for me to not do that anymore. I think JW and Gilded Moose are my favorite places, along with I Heart Jake, which I love for the pictures. The Dave Cullen sites is fun, too. I've visited other sites briefly, but I feel most at home here. There are other Jake related sites out there but I don't care for some of them very much. This is a better fit for me. IMHO: I'm delighted to know that Jakey is being considered for not just the "Hard Bodies" film, but the project with Winona Ryder and Sean Connery. I continue to be impressed with the work of your special agents.Whether you are cruising the streets of NYC on your bikes come rain or come shine, or staking out parking lots, beaches and doggie runs, you always come thru!

I don't get it? Are the posters over at WTF pissed off that moer people are posting here? Or that certain posters have defected? If so why do they care. I thought they were so happy with there little blog, what happened? Too many Natalie/Matthew/Lance pictures for them to digest??

Many years ago when I was just as young and just as pretty as I am now I was forced to watch "Hands on a Hardbody" in film school.

Pardon my French but that was the most boring ass piece of shit I have ever seen in my whole entire life -- next to "Daughters of the Dust," "Orlando" and "Citizen Kane" after the 4th viewing.

.... granted this will be a film based off of that documentary but I have no clue in all of my being how they could turn that into a film that would not suck. None, none at all. A comedy? Possibly, but still - eh.

Mr. M said...

There have been many films that I've seen that have won critics awards that I didn't enjoy. It's really all about personal taste in some cases. In other cases there are a certain set of rules that need to be followed, conventions that need to be used, in order to create a good documentary or any film really.

In this case, I'd say I just hated it. Hated it. Hated it. Hated it with the fiery intensity of a thousand suns. When I think of it flames leap from ... the side of my face ... heaving ... heaving flames of fiery ... flames.

Yes, you get the point.

I was a devout JW reader in the beginning but then things started going downhill. Brit stop doing the rubric rodeo and the Sunday projects, and it just became a little boring to me. So I went elsewhere for my Jake fix. Waiting for Toothy is still a Jake's fan dream, all the recent pictures are up like at JW, it's funny, and the owner Dany has always been nice to everyone. Both Brit and Dany have been gracious to each other, even when their readers hacked eachother to pieces. Anyway my point is if you don't like a place then you shouldn't go, but to bash it just because a person mentions it here is silly.

I like not to consider myself a freak, and I don't think you can make a judgement about me based off what blogs I visit. I just wanted to say that. Your opinion of WFT is fine and I don't need to tell you you're entitled it. And WFT is no more obsessed than JW. We all love Jake, end of. Why are we attacking each other? Anyway, JW is getting interesting again. Thank you PG.

Hello,my dearest Jake Watch!Long time no see..and I am a little dissapointed that when I left last Monday there was a problem with trolls over at the 'at 25' thread..and here there are again!I personally hate this conflict because it covers the entire reason we're here..that is to comment,to analyze all Jake related while being nice, respectful and opened to others opinions. In MY opinion.

Cunsorning the relationship between the two, I'm glad to hear there's a project involved.I like this very much..mixing hobbies with work aspects..it makes it all more familiar,I guess.Good work, agents!;)
*went to do some unpacking*

Wow, thank you anon for the tip and thank you PG for the background research! What dedication, darling.

I love the idea of Jake in an Altman movie.

JadziaDragonRider said...

How could anyone look at them together and say Matt is the sexier one?

JadziaDragonRider said...

I love the idea of Jake in ANY movie. Jake needs to get back to work so I can see him more often.

I just want to see Jake picking good roles in really interesting projects & working with the best directors out there. Robert Altman is a legend. I'd like to see just what he'd do with Jake & how he'd use him.

Also, I'd like to see Jake onstage in Manhattan ... but maybe first he'd better improve his ability to learn his lines. :-)

3.17 pm, you're so right!

& what's happened here? Kiki rules is obviously THE troll, and the bearded lady isn't even funny any more.

Anonymous said...

Lance was offensive in his remarks about the French as well. He could use some lessons in class from Jake.

Anonymous said...

tsk tsk-- such hostility and negativity!! i hope the bad vibes don't get to Jakey!

anyway - about hands on a hard body - good god.. if jake does this movie and all the texas connections are there.. i wonder if there's a chance they'll film in austin, tx. ?? if so, i'm gonna be crashing at my friend's pad for quite a long while.. with plenty of batteries.. for my camera, people!!!

-twinkie (who really needs to sign up for JW).
