DAD IS WORKING ON OUR QUESTIONS

Yes, we can call Mr Stephen Gyllenhaal that now, you'll see why in a second. Cantara tells me he is utterly impressed with our questions and wants to take his time over them to do them justice. Straight from the horse's mouth (kinda), he says, "You're all like my daughters,". How amazingly sweet is that? Dad, obviously we're not as talented and successful as your other children but maybe we can help out around the house? I call pool duty!

Cantara also confirms that there are a number of poems about Jake in Stephen's poetry collection. There is one long, astonishing poem entitled "At 25" which was written around December (Jake's birthday), right around the beginning of the Brokeback Mountain frenzy and there are also poems about Maggie, about Naomi, and even one about Jamie Lee Curtis. Eek, I can't wait.

Tonnes more info over at www.stephengyllenhaal.com and also a new poem called True Love which I'd like to hear your insight on, my literary lovers!

Well now we know where Jake gets some of his charm from!

Wait a minute. So I can quasi-truthfully claim that Stephen Gyllenhaal called me his daughter (even if indirectly and/or inadvertantly)?! I can officially die happy. I've had so much Gyllenhaal goodness this week I can hardly stand it! Can't WAIT to see what he has to say... :)

They are from royal desecent. The prince charming family.

I guess I'll take kitchen duty and hope that Jake will come and cook for his parents... ;)

The Gyllenhaal men... *sigh*

"You're all like my little daughters"?! That's the sweetest thing I've ever heard I think! I'm ecstatic to see his replies to our questions, even if my question should not be among them. I can't wait

Daddy Gyllenhaal! Teeeheee! :-)

yes but think this through my fellow stalkers, if we (although i didn't send a question) are his daughters, that makes Jakes our brother which means we won't be able to do rude things with him. I'd rather be Daddy G's distant niece by marriage only if you get me.

Okey, take away the "little" that I happened to sneak in there (got a little over excited there...lol!), and I also sign up for any house duty they want me to do! At your service, Gyllenhaals!

Well, I'm much too old to be a daughter...maybe I could be a sister? And then I'd be an aunt to Jake...oh, well, that won't work...it'd really mess up my fantasies. ;) Anyhoo, glad to hear we were able to come up with good questions...now I'm off to read me some poetry. :)

Ooooh, thats so cute...I love the gyllenhaals, they are all so perfect...I wanna read that poem for jake...

Becky Heineke said...

Nah, he probably means "daughter" as in "daughter-in-law" as in "wife of my son."

Or maybe not.

Does he realise he's just got himself a 37 year old daughter!!?

Anonymous said...

its not just the age but the vast number he has suddenly acquired! Have they got enough beds in the house for a family get-together?

Okay, I like to consider myself mildly edgy and perverse and am quite put out that my current sexual obsession is of the breeder kinda BUT PapaG has just helped me immensely in that he's just deemed my love incestuous so I feel just as dirty as I wanna be. I better go with my bad self!

Anonymous said...

That's a really sweet comment... (that does seem to imply that someone in his vicinity at least has checked this place out, doesn't it? Yeay!) :)

god this is cute, im giggling like a retard here...

Aww, Poppa G is such a sweetheart! Gotta love the Gyllenhaals!

That's so cool!

(But nothing you wanna keep in mind when we're all drooling over Jakey and telling each other what we wanna do to/with him...)

But totally cool! :)

Oops, I copy/pasted from Cina not the main page so subtract the little from my statement too.

That's so kind and sweet of Poppa Gyllenhaal! I want to reassure him that even though I regularly drool over his son's pictures/movies/voice, I mean no harm and I am not breaking into their house any day soon...

And how I wish my parents would write me poems!

WOW. That True Love poem is, like, deep, man. It is quite amazing, isn't it? It will require several more readings and deconstructings but one of the many first impressions I'm getting is that it feels rather sexual - or perhaps that's my mood :-(. Poppa G clearly still very much in his prime and what not.

BPB, where did you read the "At 25" poem? I can't find it in the samples in the website.

Anonymous said...

I didn't send a question so I don't know if that disqualifies me from "daughter"...but I'd live with "daughter in law". *hint* ;)
And his poetry...blows me away. It's stunning.

Anonymous said...

I loved that 'True Love' poem. He writes with a rawness and his structure is ironically perfect.
I love his expressions.

I don't think 'At 25' is posted up, you'll probably have to buy the book.

Thanks for the update britpop!

I'd love to submit my poetry to Cantara.. fingers crossed.

If that poor man only knew how his "daughters" talk about his ass!!!!

Much love for Gyllenpappa. :-) Can't wait for the book.

Hugs and smooches!

The Gyllenhaal men... *sigh*

Yeah....double *sigh!*

Well now we know where Jake gets some of his charm from!

I heard that! Gyllendaddy taught him well, huh?

Awwwwww, so sweet of Poppa Gyllenhaal! I'm suddenly salivating in anticipation of getting my hands on this book! And I don't even like poetry!

Anonymous said...

I agree with jla above that poppa Gyllenhaal really has a unique style in his poetry. Nothing like I've read before at least (not that I read a lot of poetry though...).
I like it, it's intense. And I can't wait to read the poems about Jakey poo! Too bad I can't go to his reading, it's a little too far from Stockholm.... heh.

Anonymous said...

I so love this! I also like Stephen's poems..

Britpopbaby, it's thanks to your writing skills that this is happening! Thanks!

This dad thing.. Since I am 11th cousin of Jake+Maggie (true! And yes, I really enjoy telling everybody about it - again and again....), I'm sooo fine with that!

(To the Swedes: On TV this weekend: October Sky today and City Slickers tomorrow!)

britpopbaby said...

:( What about us boys? ;)

I was going to say something about that. Looks like he's not aware of the interest in his son from ALL areas ;)

His poems contain several layers which allow each respective reader to incorporate their own experiences in order to connect with the work and develop a personal interpretation!
I agree jla. Some of his poems seem candid and direct but everyone can make their own interpretation which is the essence of a great writer.

The "At 25" is released on June 25. Cantara tells me there will be a PDF version online to read.

Poppa G! We love you! When can we come round for tea? I have an image of us all sitting round in a circle, gazing up adoringly at him while he reads his poetry.

Anonymous said...

^^ Oh my, wouldn't that be nice! I like that image.

Anonymous said...

Uuu, nice, thanks for pointing that out Katie! Have never seen City Slickers before, will tune in to that one 2morrow. Is it any good though? Oh well, at least it'll be a treat seeing young Jakey!

Anonymous said...

@ phoebe: Unfortunately both films are scheduled to be during the night hours...and I don't have recording possibilities..so I guess my diurnal rythms will be all fucked up this upcoming weekend. So..phoebe.. you're Swedish! Nice!

Very kind of cantara to provide that 25-poem electronically!

Anonymous said...

I loved City Slickers when it came out, and I think I would still like it today actually. So it's definitely worth a look, not only because of Jakey poo.

Anonymous said...

I still have difficulties fathoming all this, Stephen Gyllenhaal actually doing this for the Jake Watch posse. Hail to the Stalker in chief/ High Priestess britpopbaby!!!

Anonymous said...

I agree beskyddaren, I'm still all giddy and I want to go "teeheee!" every time I think about it. Come to think of it, it's rather amazing that this little community has gotten this attention from the Gyllenhaal family!
Praise to thee, Britpopbaby! :-)
AND - congratulations to ALL OF US here! I'm so happy for us and so thankful for poppa Gyllenhaal's kindness toward us.

Anonymous said...

Yes, me too! I can only conclude, as I've said before, that Cantara must have been impressed with BPB in their PictureGate dealings. Are they doing this for anyone else?

Of course, Pops can be assured that each one of us will buy a copy of his book. Not that I have a problem with that. :-)

Anonymous said...

Yes! To be honest, I am a fan of the Gyllenhaals but almost even a bigger fan of BPB. And Jake, if your read this: you should check britpops other blog out...there are pics of her and she's HOT. Absolutely your type...

Anonymous said...

Britpopbaby, your blog rules. I've been reading it almost from the very beginning and you're just amazing. Thank you for everything.

Anonymous said...

And I've forgot to add that I'm very excited about Mr Gyllenhaal answering my question. And even if you haven't chosen my question I'll be very happy to read all the answers. I can't believe it. He called us his daughters...

Anonymous said...

I should've said:"I have forgotten"...:)I got so excited.

Anonymous said...

@ Katie: Yep, I sure am! And geez, just checked it online and City Slickers is indeed on LATE (or should I say early?). Since I have the possibility, I guess taping it is in order here.

Just read Poppa G's poem True Love - it's beautiful. I really enjoy his way of writing. So straightforward and authentic.

Anonymous said...

I like that Papa Gyllenhaal feels fatherly toward us. Which surely must mean he doesn't read the blog word for word. Perhaps someone describes it to him second-hand, and it's a bowdlerized version represented mostly through excerpts. And they leave out the comments on his ass and all the speculation about his son's sexual preferences.

Miffed67 said...

^^ LMAO, gummybug! You stated my sentiments exactly!

britpopbaby said...

Cantara is an extermely nice lady and I can't thank her enough for this incredible oppourtunity! I've decided to make it my career - interviewing famous peeps but via the internet so I can drink loads of tea and nip off to watch 'Deal or No Deal' and sunbathe.

All I know for sure is that 'Pops' AND Jake know about the blog and it's goings on (and IHJ) but whether they visit themselves or just relayed info back to them via someone I have no clue. I presume it's the latter because Jake is obviously too busy playing b-ball, doing crosswords and wearing socks to be a dedicated surfer. It's okay, Jake, we understand.

Miffed67 said...

LMAO! Hey, he has a Blackberry, let's not forget. And Gyllendaddy presumably spends some time in front of a computer. Maybe not every day, but fairly often.

Ok, I'm getting paranoid! That's the second time that's happened....someone tryin' to mess with my head?

"interviewing famous peeps but via the internet"

Like that idea sounds fab, you could have people wait on you hand and foot!

The oppourtunity Cantara has given you is great and she does sound like a nice person. It's good of her to take time out and e-mail you!

Well done Brits for all your hard work!

Anonymous said...

So what will BPB do next... after the poppa interview? I think it would be great to make a Maggie interview! Since I saw Secretary I've been surfing around to find any boards about her but they are not as alive as the jakey ones. IMO a maggie feature at JW would be awesome.. I mean..did anybody here not like the Secretary?

Anonymous said...

Hear, hear, Katie of Sweden. I like that idea - I have had a bit of a (harmless) silly girl crush on Maggie since I saw Secretary and watched her interview on the DVD extras. She's an incredibly intelligent girl. And she was the only good thing in Mona Lisa smile. (And yes, I know His ex was in it, too, SORRY).

Anonymous said...

@zoo
Oh I haven't seen Mona Lisa..I have to see it!

Yeah, it's especially the dvd extra material that really got me hooked. She is "so cute I can hardly stand it"... :)

Miffed67 said...

OMG, GREAT idea, katie! Would love a Maggie feature. Secretary ROCKED and so does she.

The Chemistry Guru said...

What dvd extras?
*sob* I don't think that was ever released here in the UK! I only got a no-frills version with some crappy trailers!

britpopbaby said...

A Maggie interview, eh? We can gradually work our way through the Gyllenhaal family - I'd like to hear from Naomi too.
