OFF TOPIC: REAL LIFE DRAMA

Okay, I might not get a chance to update today because my life just turned from simple, care free and easy going into one big disaster.

To cut a long story short I'm a Uni student in my final year and I live in a student village in a lovely house with five other people. One of these people, let's call him Ted, is hardly ever at Uni preferring to spend his days bouncing around the country and getting drunk in various towns. This is all good because it means we didn't have to deal with him until last night.

He showed up around 4pm with three friends. I wasn't exactly ecstatic to see him as last time he came him and his friends got completely wasted and wrecked the house, mainly leaving blood and piss all over the bathroom floors. One housemate went to complain to the porter about it but by the time she got back the crafty bastards had left, leaving us to clean up the mess. That was back in Februray and we hadn't seen Ted since. When Ted saw me he reassured me that these were different friends and they were nothing like the others that came last time. I had my doubts but there was not a lot I could do so I just told them if I caught any of them smoking in the kitchen they'd better be on fucking fire (I HATE cigarette smoke!). They left the house around 7pm to head into town. The rest of the house have various dissertations, essays and exams to do so we were all staying in. I went to bed around midnight in the hope I could fall into a deep sleep before they got back and wouldn't wake me up. How wrong was I?

They came in around 12.30am shouting, chanting and seemed to be slamming every door around the house. I just tutted and rolled over in the hope they'd eventually stop. But it got worse, the shouting turned to screaming and the whole house felt like it was shaking. At this point they were still downstairs so I braved it out my door and went to check on my mate Anneka. We were both just a little bemused by this point but as I stood chatting at her doorway three men ran upstairs naked. They started running round the landing yelling various things at us. I was laughing at first but they started coming towards us so we both ran into Anneka's room and locked the door. They started ram raiding all the doors upstairs, let off all the fire extinguishers, flooded the bathroom, broke the lights and smashed glasses against the wall. I was concerned about our housemate Donna because she was really ill with a cold so I took a chance and legged it across the landing and got into her room. She'd managed to contact her Dad who had rung the university wardens (we couldn't get through on our mobiles).

At this point they let off another fire extinguisher but this time it was the CO2 one so gas started to fill the entire house, choking us. Thankfully the porters arrived and set off the fire alarm so we all evacuated the house. We were all pretty shook up because, and not to set the feminist movement back fifty years but, we're just tiny girls! When we were all stood on the grass outside the naked boys started yelling at us calling us 'sluts', 'bitches', you name it. They also started a race row, calling us arrogant because we're English (they're Welsh). I had enough so I started screaming back. I thought I was quite articulate in my arguement, all things considered. Then the police arrived and told the naked boys to leave because they were on Uni property and had no right to be there. They kept saying they were guests of the house and they couldn't understand what the problem was! I think it's because they were still drunk and couldn't reason why the police had turned up.

One of our housemates pointed out that they had no where to go and would just come backtto the house and cause more aggro so couldn't they just be arrested? The policeman said, "Are you telling me how to do my job, mate?" So then the police started arguing with us! It was like watching something on TV, I just couldn't believe it. We finally got back inside the house but there was broken glass, vomit and bloody CO2 gas everywhere! The wardens came back in with us and started saying how it was our responsibilty to clean it up and there was nothing they could do about it. As I final kick in the balls, so to speak, he added that it looked like the carpet needed replacing and that would cost us thousands.

I finally got to bed but couldn't sleep because the gas was making me nauseous. I thought about just going to a Bed & Breakfast, or even better, home! I wasn't that upset just really, really angry. I got up this morning to find a note from Donna saying she was catching the morning train home because she couldn't take it. I really couldn't blame her. I tried hoovering but everything had been trodden in. I went to wake up Ted, who hadn't been carted away by the police for some reason but he wouldn't get up. I then went to the porter's cabin to see if there was anything they could do and they said that now the police were involved it was out of there hands. Great, thanks.

So this is where I'm at now. I have to wait for the police and wardens. I've got my final project due in and I still feel sick from the gas. Sorry that was hella long but god, it was a long night.

Oh my god... i'm so sorry for you and so angry on this guys!! 'Ted' is just an irresponsible annoying asshole for getting you such guys into your house. Please try to relax a little though ... I'm sure this trouble will be over soon. And dont bother with JakeWatch, we're all able to wait until everything's fine again. *hugs*

Oh my god, I feel so sorry for you! That sounds terrible!! Those guys must have been under the influence of a lot more than just alcohol if you ask me... I can't even imagine how you're feeling, it must be just awful having to deal with that mess. I sincerely hope everything works out fine, both the mess you've been dragged into, and your exam! And JakeWatch is def priority number *whaterver* right now, you and your situation is what's important! Hugs to you girl!!

Wow, looks like you are in rather messy a situation. And worse, you have to fix things you're not even responsible for ! I know how I hate that kind of situation and I really sympathize with you. Take my advice and get rid of that damn Ted, who clearly has issues ! I hope things are going to come back into place as soon as possible and it won't turn to be too much of a handicap for your studies.
Wish you the best !

Been lurking here for a while, (constantly snorting coffee through my nose at Boo sightings and sock watches) but thought I'd pipe up regarding this horrible incident. I commend you for not retaliating against the non-moving Ted in Bed. I'd at least have poured a bucket of ice water over him. I hope things get back to normal for you ASAP. *Hugs*

OH MY GOD!! That is awful. What a bunch of evil bastards. When you've got yourself straight, write a formal letter to whoever is in charge at the uni and explain the situation. Explain that you will not be held responsible for any damage in the property considering it was done by trespassers. Speak to your tutor as well about the hassle as soon as you can (I'm sure you will) and they should give you extra time to complete your project. When I was at uni, I went through a break in and had to move home and I was given a bit of extra time to complete some work because of it. And as for Ted, if he won't leave, then look at leaving yourself - its not ideal as you shouldn't have to be turfed out of your home but you have to look at the most pracical solution and being prinicipled about it won't help you get your work done.

And don't worry about JakeWatch - we'll all keep an eye on him for you!!

I'm another lurker who loves this blog delurking for a moment to send you good vibes. You poor thing! Have you contacted your student union? They usually can offer help/advice/representation in times like these. There's no way on earth that you should be made responsible for this mess. NO way.

BritpopBaby, that's really horrible!! I hope that you get everything sorted and those bastards better pay for everything they did!! As much as we love Jake Watch, please don't worry about it. All I want is for you to get your life back in order. Thinking of you babe!

I'm also a lurker... Dude, I'm so sorry. That sucks. But I agree with claire; talk to your professor! Get an extention! You have the wardens to back you up that this all actually happened! Then get Ted kicked out! That kind of behavious has *got* to be grounds for kicking-out... I'm horrified that the police didn't arrest those guys!
Anyway, I'm sending you good vibes. Feel better! Eat some chocolate! Watch some brokeback!

Jesus, I've heard (gone through) some horror stories of idiotic male behavior before, but this is by far the worst ever. Ted needs his lily-ass kicked. As for the rest of the guys, I'm completely baffled as to why their behavior didn't warrant an arrest. What the hell? I'm so sorry! Plus, worst timing EVER. I'd raise hell for you if I thought it would do any good. Hang in there...

Drunk, crazy boys are icky. It sounds like it was pretty scary too. I'm glad you're alright.

Thank you for your kind words and advice, everyone. I've calmed down a lot mainly because me and Anneka have spent all day away from the house and went on a trip to the seaside! It's so warm and summery we were soon completely chilled out. Ice cream helped. 'Ted' did actually clean the stairs and landing after a porter came round and yelled at him. The friends were released and they came back but didn't actually come in the house. They just stood outside looking very sheepish. I waved at them in a cheerily sarcastic manner. I've also been putting all my used teabags in 'Ted's' George Foreman to make me feel better. I might go and find some insects to put in his bed. The Uni haven't been much help but I'm gonna play hell until everything is sorted. :)

Glad to hear things have been somewhat sorted out and you were able to get away for the day to relax and have some fun, britpopbaby. Your ordeal made my stomach turn over, I doubt I would've handled it a smidgeon as well as you; you have a heck of a cool head on your shoulders (so it seems!) and did the best any of us could do in that situation. No two ways about it, Ted needs to be *gone*. You guys deserve to be in a house where you're comfortable and able to get things done. I'm sending you continued good thoughts and like everyone else has said don't worry about JakeyWatch, we want you ok first! *big hug*

Hey ive also been lurking for some time and love the blog. Hope everthing works out for you. Take care.

Is that how they handle things in England? They would not put up with that crap here in the States. Our universities are pretty liberal, but they don't tolerate vandalism, at least. Ted needs to be kicked out of your house, pronto. If he isn't attending school, he probably isn't in good academic standing, and for that should be kicked out of university. He also should be liable for replacing anything in the house, since his friends did it. Here in the States we have something called a restraining order; if they have them in the UK, you should get one against Ted and his friends. You girls are lucky you weren't assaulted, or even raped (they may have been too drunk, but it happens). You can't trust these guys, so keep them away.

Gah! Cops can be so scary/totally useless. Just last night I was on my way to a bush party with some people and before you know it these two cops are shining their huge 40000 watt flashlights in our faces and asked what we were doing in the park. Vandalizing? they inquired. And then they go 'you better not start any shit around here, you hear?'I was a bit frightened to say the least, more so that the flashlights may contribute to any long term eye problmes later on in life.

I hope everything goes alright from now on - 'Ted' needs a good ass kicking. ps - keep up with the teabag findings.

The wardens came round again and started cleaning the place up for us and actually reassured us this time saying they were on our side and would back us up if it went to tribunial or something. The boys have been charged with vandalism and trespassing and will be fined. I don't think the police or the wardens fully understood everything that had gone on - like someone said, they were so drunk/high they could have really hurt us. The police never questioned us last night but we've made a statement to our social worker this evening. They also said we won't be charged for anything so thats a relief! 'Ted' has done a runner but he is getting evicted, not that he'll really care. It's just been a bit of a surreal weekend but like jla said, getting all out via writing was theraputic!

Thanks again for all your kind words. It's comforting!

Ahhh *hugs* I'm so sorry!!! Those guys suck - take some time off Jake Watch and whatever and get it sorted out xx

Truly the stuff of nightmares. I am impressed with your composure; I'd have taken a very large kitchen knife to them. I had a couple of hideous experiences at Uni myself and was similarly appalled at the lack of support shown by the female warden at the time..Oh what boyish japes eh! We managed to get the little bustards in the end... Glad to see your keeping your pecker up britters ol' gal!

Drunken pilots??

It looks like 'Ted' is getting evicted. I voted 'yes' to teach him a lesson more than anything. He still hasn't apologised and seems to think he did nothing wrong - I'm putting that down to being so drunk he can't remember rather than him having a pure evil soul.

The Uni have finally got their arses into gear and the head warden came round to see us. They've obviously never dealt with something this bad before. They all seem a little clueless. One man called, and I'm not kidding, Pavlos came round yesterday and asked if we we're the house, "making all the complaints". Then he said it had taken him so long to come round because he couldn't find us - he's supposed to be a warden for fucks sake! Nutter.
