JAKE IN THE NEWS (SORT OF)

Sir Ian Criticises Jake Gyllenhaal

British gay actor Sir Ian McKellen has criticized Brokeback Mountain heartthrob Jake Gyllenhaal after Jake admitted being hesitant to shoot love scenes with Heath Ledger, his co-star in the gay cowboy drama. The openly gay actor, known from such movies as 'Lord Of The Rings' and 'X-men,' slammed 25-year-old Gyllenhaal for failing to consider how his comments would offend the homosexual community. He said: "I got very upset when one of the actors said it was the most terrifying job he'd ever had because it involved him kissing another man. "Imagine how rude that is. Suppose I'd said the most appalling thing I ever to do was kiss Helen Mirren!" (

You wanna take this outside McKellen? I can take you, and your Hobbit army down right now if that's the way its gotta be! I think the word we're looking for here is bitter. I have to agree with him on one point though; I can believe that necking the Mirren would be quite a traumatic experience.

This is an interesting bit from IMDB on McKellen:

McKellen starred on Broadway in Bent, a play about gay men in Nazi death camps, starting in 1979. Despite his role in this ground-breaking play, which brought to public view for the first time in a widespread way the persecution of gay people in Nazi Germany, McKellen was not yet out publicly. At first, he was unsure whether he dared to take the role. "As impressed as I was by it, I thought 'My God! Do I dare be in this?' ...

Things that make you go hmm

But McKellen never went on about having to kiss another man did he!?

There's the difference.

Anyway, I'm sure he and Jake will bond over a game of whist in the not too distant future.

Do you think he was more concerned with the Nazi or the gay part? I read it as both.

And I love the idea of Jake and McKellen in a little country cottage somewhere(Norfolk, prehaps?)swapping stories, playing Trivial Pursuit and knocking back Bloody Marys together. Aww...
